The sad thing about this is that no matter how fast you go ..... Gary, or 'A' will always hold the world record, he got and will always get there before you.
Here I was trying to fall asleep while rewatching Jrose11 solo challenges, and I see Summoning Salt’s Red and Blue video in my recommendations, so I decide to rewatch that. I looked this video up when he mentioned it since I love commentated speed runs for a similar reason to why I love your stuff, only to see you had just commented here. Wack.
@@Ryan-jv7vj do you know if this is the exact video that summoning salt was referring to when he said someone who was unknown uploaded a run that many people were unsure if it was real or not? Ps. Jrose you are the frickin man Ive watched your entire gen 1 series so far lol
but by playing the entire game with just one pekemon with Red health you can avoid that Problem. that killed me. wasnt that game challenging when we were Kids?
I don't normally comment on things like this but I just wanted to say this is a FANTASTIC speedrun. I normally can't sit through an entire one but the commentary was perfect. Easy to understand and taught me things which I really appreciate! Congratulations and go A!
This is a really brilliant commentary. I haven't heard these kinds of informative and pleasant explanations in my life. I don't usually watch speedruns, but this is absolutely worth it. You have a clear knowledge of the game that is incredible.
You have to love the fact that the time runs are 1:50 vs 1:51 which are the two original numbers of pokemon from this gen. (150, then mew was acknowledged as in-game via events and eventual glitches to make 151)
I like the irony of how Prof. Oak says 'you've learnt to train your pokemon with care' at the end. Try telling that to Spearow, chucked out to die to a powerful move. xD
I've loved this video since you released it. There's a lot of reasons I love it - but one reason is because it's actually super relaxing. I've fallen asleep listening to this so many times.
It is so impressive that this whole game was 512 KB. Yes, that's right. Pokémon Red was 512 KB. That they fit the whole game on a 512KB cartridge is what makes this game a work of art.
BlueyMatiOnz666 Nope, gameboy games are tiny. They actually had a problem with pokemon silver and gold where they couldn't fit the whole game in the cartridge and someone managed to make a compressor program so that they could fit in twice as much as they normally would.
The amount of discipline and knowledge you display from this speed run is very impressive. I would never be able to put in the amount of effort you did for this, but that doesn't make this unworthy of praise!
These was absolutely fantastic, and the commentary was so insightful. I've never been glued to the screen by a two hour youtube video before, but this did it! Well done on your world record!
Blackprocks Wtf are you talking about? Do you even know the times for this game? I didnt record it unfortunately so it wasnt official but i know I did it so I dont care
i love how you figured out all the stuff about the seconds and calculated them, and took all possibilities and every possible second into consideration. i can tell you are very serious about this. good job! plus i learned a lot.
Thanks for adding commentary, it makes watching a speed run more entertaining when it lets people understand the intricacies of what they're watching. =]
I think this is the most informative speedrun commentary I've ever listened to. Extremely refreshing. Do you run any other games? Any plans for the future? Please make more videos.
I plan to keep running Pokemon, and I'll stream my runs once I get a new computer (hopefully within the next month). I might try for 1:49 in Red, or I might start running Crystal and/or Emerald.
Charlie Armitz I really hope you do Emerald next! That game was my favorite pokemon game. I really enjoyed watching this speedrun! It was really impressive, and your commentary was excellent in helping me understand what was going on!
I agree sooo much Mr Frogger! I thought I knew a ton about Pokemon... but I didn't know a lot of this stuff, such as that some of the tiles can't spawn enemies and you have stat buffs from Gym Leaders, as well as when your other stats are lowered... WOW.
You are a god, informative and entertaining, I have actually followed along while I was replaying Red on VC (much slower obviously xD) and it's been fun! I recommend people to try it, just take a bit more time than him in healing and such and it's pretty insane to see how a good strategy changes the experience!
This was truly epic. I actually had to sit through the whole thing just because i was in awe of the quick reaction times, dedication, and overall knowledge you have over this game. I'm so glad to see that even in 2016, you still hold the world record for this game, even though its on a different run (you said you thought a 1:40 time was possible, and you were right! :D) I just wanna thank you for this, because it's actually crazy to think about the amount of time and effort this took. It was really cool to see.
I think Giovanni saying "so we meet again" is a pretty good indication that you're meant to get the silph scope from him, so the pokedoll trick is an unintended feature.
Gratz man, great run and commentary! Many people will be sceptic of this run but I'm sure most people won't even bother watching your full run. You seem legit and I hope you stay in the community. :)
im at 1:17:00 now, but iv been watching on dorkly where i got the link from facebook and then i realized right now that it was a youtube video so i came here, and ill finish watching this video tommorw, but this speed run thing just shows the extremenees of my inefficiency, no wonder it take me 30 hours to beat the elite four see all this speed perfection. nice commentary btw, couldnt watch without
Very fun to watch. Compared to other speedrunners, you're so humble and pleasant to listen to. I'll just leave it at that. Thanks so much and congrats!
Meanwhile I barely manage to defeat Elite 4 with my 6 pokemon all lvl 50-60... But my pokemon got something your A can only dream of,, love! And love can vanquish all foes!
***** Nidoking is my favourite non legendary/pseudo legendary in Gen 1. I always have a Nidotank in my arsenal and usually ends up my strongest pokemon. Love that guy.
I'm really amazed with watching speed runs, seeing how evolving a pokemon several steps later can change it all because it's cry is half a second longer.
I'm very thankful for the commentary. It makes a huge difference knowing all the things that had to go right for this run to succeed. No wonder he had a thousand or more attempts before this one.
He completed Lavender Tower, Silph Co and Koga in the time it took me to complete Rocket Hideout, which I only discovered wasn't necessary in a speed run...Man, I suck XD
awesome commentary, really explains all the effort and minute attention to detail that goes into these speedruns and makes the watch all the more entertaining
I did not think, that i can be that impressed of a pokemon speed run. but that was outstanding! thank you so much. Like u told in the commentarys so often: i could have died here(in the last seconds of a two hour run. just if the other pokemon would have done another attack) you are brave!
I really enjoyed watching this and I also like how you explain most of the things you do. I hope you do more speedruns of pokemon but I'd probably watch anything if it's done like this one. Good job :)

Its crazy to see how far a game can be pushed over 20+ years of being out. You guys will prob find more ways to shave seconds off this time and although i like watching runs, i am not brave enough to take those kinda risks XD i could beat the game last year in about 3 hours with charizard alone but obviously nowhere near this. Great run and looking forward to more Pokemon!
As impressive as these speedruns are, I have yet to understand how you people can enjoy making them. It just seems so frustrating and dependent on luck. Maybe it's because I am basically the exact opposite of a speedrunner - a hardcore completionist. I feel lucky being a bit of both, I will 100% any game I like, but If I like a game so much (eg: Pokemon Yellow) then I will try speedrunning it. I used to speedrun Yellow but I haven't recorded any runs because I'm still in practice.
The runs themselves are rarely fun, but they're necessary to show the routing (which is a ton of fun). Also, people love watching runs on Twitch, and streaming for an audience is fun.
werster is my favorite speed runner. I see why people are hating because you used his times and strats but I applaud your effort and all the work you have put in. you explain everything so well and the commentary was excellent congrats on the time!

Yes, that's right. Pokémon Red was 512 KB.
That they fit the whole game on a 512KB cartridge is what makes this game a work of art.
