      Here I was trying to fall asleep while rewatching Jrose11 solo challenges, and I see Summoning Salt’s Red and Blue video in my recommendations, so I decide to rewatch that. I looked this video up when he mentioned it since I love commentated speed runs for a similar reason to why I love your stuff, only to see you had just commented here. Wack.

      but by playing the entire game with just one pekemon with Red health you can avoid that Problem. that killed me. wasnt that game challenging when we were Kids?

    You have to love the fact that the time runs are 1:50 vs 1:51 which are the two original numbers of pokemon from this gen. (150, then mew was acknowledged as in-game via events and eventual glitches to make 151)

    It is so impressive that this whole game was 512 KB.
    Yes, that's right. Pokémon Red was 512 KB.
    That they fit the whole game on a 512KB cartridge is what makes this game a work of art.

      BlueyMatiOnz666 Nope, gameboy games are tiny. They actually had a problem with pokemon silver and gold where they couldn't fit the whole game in the cartridge and someone managed to make a compressor program so that they could fit in twice as much as they normally would.

      I think ps2 games were in kbs too, but why are people surprised? The graphics were insanely low, steps were shorter and no voices or epic scenes.

    This is a really brilliant commentary. I haven't heard these kinds of informative and pleasant explanations in my life. I don't usually watch speedruns, but this is absolutely worth it. You have a clear knowledge of the game that is incredible.

    You are a god, informative and entertaining, I have actually followed along while I was replaying Red on VC (much slower obviously xD) and it's been fun! I recommend people to try it, just take a bit more time than him in healing and such and it's pretty insane to see how a good strategy changes the experience!

      I plan to keep running Pokemon, and I'll stream my runs once I get a new computer (hopefully within the next month). I might try for 1:49 in Red, or I might start running Crystal and/or Emerald.

      I agree sooo much Mr Frogger! I thought I knew a ton about Pokemon... but I didn't know a lot of this stuff, such as that some of the tiles can't spawn enemies and you have stat buffs from Gym Leaders, as well as when your other stats are lowered... WOW.

      ***** Nidoking is my favourite non legendary/pseudo legendary in Gen 1. I always have a Nidotank in my arsenal and usually ends up my strongest pokemon. Love that guy.

    This was truly epic. I actually had to sit through the whole thing just because i was in awe of the quick reaction times, dedication, and overall knowledge you have over this game. I'm so glad to see that even in 2016, you still hold the world record for this game, even though its on a different run (you said you thought a 1:40 time was possible, and you were right! :D) I just wanna thank you for this, because it's actually crazy to think about the amount of time and effort this took. It was really cool to see.

    I think Giovanni saying "so we meet again" is a pretty good indication that you're meant to get the silph scope from him, so the pokedoll trick is an unintended feature.

    Its crazy to see how far a game can be pushed over 20+ years of being out. You guys will prob find more ways to shave seconds off this time and although i like watching runs, i am not brave enough to take those kinda risks XD i could beat the game last year in about 3 hours with charizard alone but obviously nowhere near this. Great run and looking forward to more Pokemon!

    As impressive as these speedruns are, I have yet to understand how you people can enjoy making them.
    It just seems so frustrating and dependent on luck. Maybe it's because I am basically the exact opposite of a speedrunner - a hardcore completionist.
    Don't get me wrong, I find speedruns really impressive and fun to watch, but I would never want to make one myself. ^^

      I feel lucky being a bit of both, I will 100% any game I like, but If I like a game so much (eg: Pokemon Yellow) then I will try speedrunning it. I used to speedrun Yellow but I haven't recorded any runs because I'm still in practice.

      The runs themselves are rarely fun, but they're necessary to show the routing (which is a ton of fun). Also, people love watching runs on Twitch, and streaming for an audience is fun.

    Isn't it faster to move thrash to the top since you now need to go down with the arrow a lot to select the move?

    Ah there goes my childhood. Hundreds of hours on the same save file to be the best and get every Pokémon . I do appreciate the skill and knowledge that come with a run like this though. Very fun to watch.

    Nidoking has always been my favorite pokemon, it's nice to see him represent so well in a speed run.
