The microbial world is fascinating, terrifying, and a bit revolting all at the same time. It's like I want to see more but I also probably don't want to know just how alive and nasty certain things are ...
Since I learned more about microbiology I wear gloves whenever I have to touch the water in my fish tanks!
Lord Rupert every “revolting” thing you mentioned about humans is caused by microorganisms so you just contributed to his point.
@@ZsaZsaUmbra don't you see how futile that is, considering more than half of our own bodys are made of microbes? Better to accept and embrace and see the beauty, that something so small could live- literally micro life machines. It's incredible!
@@ZsaZsaUmbra basically it's hardly anything to be repulsed by.
Fish can be asymptomatic carriers of pathogenic bacteria and fungus, viruses and parasites, some of which are zoonotic. These can be transferred by contaminated fomites. Fish populations that haven't had prior exposure to these diseases, can sometimes be completely destroyed within days of infection. I believe natural bodies of water and fish populations, are probably less 'disgusting,' albeit more diverse, in their microbiology than that of aquacultured fish in closed system setups. Nonetheless, I will only be bathing in straight Clorox from now on 😁
they are so small that they don't even know they are out of the pond
@zohn h A giant celestial pond that is our universe, yes.
They didn't know they were in a pond.
@@baganatube You din't know you're on a ball, Earth is not flat bro.
@@billmase2458 earth isnt round. But a lil bit oval.
Bfore the stupid argument start again.. lets just say..
Earth is a myth.
@@mymangoo Earth is round doofus, nobody said its a perfect sphere. It's so slightly oval that you can't really call it an oval.
4:20 Used to eat those things in Spore
lmao yeah
I said that myself. I was like, "this looks a whole lot like spore"
Lmao
Beautiful work! The "water flea" is a copepod called 'Cyclops'. The red spot is indeed its one eye, and the egg sacs are an aggregation of multiple eggs as you correctly guessed. They are very interesting little things! I have a colony of them in two of my aquariums. They feed mostly on diatoms and various detritus. Happy hunting!
That just shows that every small thing is part of something bigger. And who knows this might be endless :)
TRUE
I am asking you to give me a clarity
me:
*gets sample from a lake
*sees absolutely nothing but dirt

*gets same sample from a lake

Did you include a plant sample?
Mmm I thought it was only me, I can relate.
Clover Kismet if you don’t use plant samples does it have an effect? I got a bottle of lake water and don’t see anything
@@thechaoticbug8203 Plant samples are where the organisms actually live, the plant are actually more important than water i think
Somebody buy this man a phase contrast microscope
Garrett Young I nominate you for the job
Let’s all donate $1
You came up with the idea you can do it lol
...you're all too late; in later videos, he already has phase contrast; he made a video about receving the kit and setting it up; interesting...
the plant looks like it has flowers growing on it
Fascinating video, thanks for sharing.
Wonderful! The lifeforms in a drop of water are endlessly fascinating. I took a class in college, and it was one of the most enjoyable courses. Your spacing technique with slides is clever.
Very cool video. Love to watch vorticella. One thing I like about this video is that there is no background music. Just natural sounds and your voice.
I’m never swimming in a lake ever again
Let’s get to 69,000 subscribers why its just bacteria
@quychong he wasn't being that sarcastic my man
@@nerdcuddles7731 why? its just nutrients and organic material.

This is amazing because when you look through a microscope you somehow comprehend the cosmo's a bit better.
They made that spore game into a real thing
Have you played BIOS: Genesis? Probably not. But you should give it a try.
Another fabulous one (for a microscopy newbie). Your narration is excellent. And I gotta say, you do have a very pleasant sounding voice to me. Thanks.
Fascinating video, probably one of my favourites from you.
So interesting! I've never seen dark field, it's amazing. You should consider having the magnification up on the screen :)
You've earned a sub good sir
Hi, really good advice for just about anybody.looking forward to seeing other of you videos.i'm just now starting to learn about stains.this hobby is a lot of fun.thank you for the videos
I love these videos! Very interesting and informative content
wonderfully, the quality is amazing!
Such an interesting video. I just did something similar in my 8th grade science class. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
This is amazing! Great job on the video!
Good video - surprised as how much you found in just one drop of water
Thank you for your thoughtful and informative video. I'm tempted to get a microscope as I have built a pond in my garden and would like to find out what is living there. So far I can only tell there are lots of "water fleas" which gather particularly in sunlight. However, it seems that you have a much better chance of identifying things if you have a "decent" microscope, which your Olympus seems to be from what I have read (but unfortunately probably beyond my budget, although I might be able to stretch to a second-hand one). I liked the fact you didn't want to harm the creature with the egg sacs towards the end of the video, this shows sensitivity to other living things, however insignificant.
This chap is the absolute best. Thank you so much!!
Very cooool today in science we had to look at pond water under a microscope and it was so cool how you could see everything moving. Subscribed
Another fantastic look at the world far to small to see without a microscope. It's pretty amazing knowing just how small these creatures are that are featured and yet they are many orders of magnitude larger than the even smaller microbes and critters that can just be seen scurrying about while the travel in and out of the area of focus.
now just imagine how small an atom or an electron is, bc everything around us is composed of atoms...and atoms are composed of subatomic particles....and so on. Everything is light/vibration.
This is my new favorite channel
Very much informative!
Already subscribed & turned on bell so that I could grab any new videos !
Thank you for the great videos As a kid i had crude toy like microscopes But now at 68 i found your channel and you rekindled my interest I purchased a nice beginner scope and am relearning (Your never too old to learn) how to use it thanks to you
I love your videos . I have a microscope too and I use it frequently .. keep making videos man these are great
I didn't know I needed this, great stuff
Good trick in a pinch the 2 cover slips holding up one higher. I still have to order some slides with a depression for larger specimens such as larvae but that will work if needed.
Very well done. I was wondering if I could post a 5 second video from my scope and ask your opinion as to what organisms were present?
Awesome video man!
So interesting, love these videos.
This is something I really want to try myself 🤩But have to wait for the summer I guess. Great video!! 👍
This was so fun. Thank you!
Very cool video!
This video is so awesome and interesting!
Wonderful video. And the town looked lovely. I have been to Vienna, I am guessing it is near to the metropolis. The video reminded me of Adventures with a Microscope by Richard Headstrom. While its prose is old-fashioned, the book is about hands-on education, and there's nothing old-fashioned about that. Thanks for the video.
what magnification do you need on the microscope to see the crustaceans?
awesome vids! keep it up
Definitely one of my favorites
Very interesting video, thanks for sharing; subscribed!
RUclips recommendation has done it again.. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!
Thank you!
Amazing channel!!! Thanks!!
Incredibly interesting video! And thanks for writing the names, those spellings were hard to "guess". :P
That is so cool! I guess it's time to get myself a first micriscope 😊
Yo channel dope af bro. You got my sub.
Great video! One question, what is the container in the background on the window sill with the tube in it?
Ya know when you find a small channel and then instantly fall in love with it?
5:35 there's a swastika floating around
You deserve more subscriber...Keep it up
Looks like my eye floaters haha
Well what did you think eye floaters are? Tiny things on your eyeballs.
It's very helpful for my biology class!
same for my 6th grade science haha
Lovely. Thank you!
I would of never known that pond fleas are crustaceans! You’re like my second science teacher!
I would HAVE never known either, good stuff
They are copepods, and the "flea" in the video is a 'Cyclops'. Look them up, they are really quite interesting!
Eric Peterson will do!
Subscribed pls do more I love these kinds of videos
Oh my favourite subject... 'pond life'. When I was a child I had a microscope. I got a sample of pond water and showed it to my father, with all the creatures in it swimming about. I told him it was from the kitchen tap and he went crazy, phoning the water supply company and shouting at them. I felt it was too late to tell the truth. Oh dear.
You fine sir, have yourself another new subscriber!
Slip covers are ok but I like using the well slides because it gives more space for the organisms to swim and more time for me to view.
Great work ....keep doing we love your work .last crustacean is I think cyclopes
Amazing! Thanks so much :)

Awesome vid
I got a soft spot for copepods, so cool seeing one with eggs! :) so small
I have never once seen a flea breathing until now
cool video and channel. Thanks
Awesome sir, micro world is so amazing.
Environment is so clean. Seriously, no garbage anywhere !
Great Video!
I teach at a middle school and love having students explore pond water with microscopes.
But, I have not found a good "field guide" or a way to identify what were finding.
Can you recommend a book to identify what were finding? Were in Colorado...
Thanks!
There are books (in German: "das leben im wassertropfen" search amazon), but this book is a bit of an overkill - very detailed, thousands of species. The German description is not much of a disadvantage, as identification is done over drawings. For school use this one is much more useful, becasue more general and accessible to students: msnucleus.org/watersheds/mission/plankton.pdf
which objective lens did you use to see the paramecium?
What is the magnification used to see the fly up close? I'm thinking of buying a microscope thats max is x800 and would like to have a reference before purchasing it
I Did this research 40 years ago, nice to see that curiosity still is around.

I'm interested in keeping them alive longer. When I get a sample, the first day I don't see that many organisms. The second day I see tons and lots of variety. After that the variety goes down and it becomes dominated by only one type of organism and starts to stink. I'd like to keep a little ecosystem going longer so I could see new things over the course of a longer period of time (and have less stink). Do you think it's just aeration that I need?
7:02 Wow this is so cool, interesting to observe up close. 😐you have an awesome microscope😊
Enjoy your microscopy videos.
Can you advise a method for preserving and mounting freshwater crustaceans for long term use please?
Amazing Darwin!
THANKS! SO BEAUTIFUL!
its soo cool that even 1 drop of lake water has its own ecosystem
I came to Microbehunter to look at Demodex and now I'm addicted. This stuff is so fascinating that, frankly, I'm glad no one else is here to see the big stupid grin on my face! I've subscribed!
So cool!!!! Would love to see your jar behind u, under the microscope! :)
Could I possibly send you a sample of attempted alcohol that failed I made it years ago and wasn’t sanitary it’s been under my sink forever is that something you’d be interested it?
Dildo Shwagins sounds disgusting
Hi...what to do with the pond water after seeing..where should I throw??should I go back to pond to pour it or just spill it anywhere.there were so many microorganism
microbehunter i have an idea for a video. Get 2 samples if water from tge same pond and treat one to make it "drinkable" with filters and boiling it. I like to see how effective this is.
I add pond water to my aquariums every few weeks to encourage the food web
This is so interesting
So cool!
Hei i really love your content! 😍
I love your channel
Awesome!
That was great!...
hello, i got a very old kids microscope. its a Tasco deluxe model. i am trying to inspect water sample for life/parasite and mold swabs sample. sadly my microscope is full of contaminant inside the lens and everywhere. can i safely disaasemble it to clean or it is too dangerous and could ruin it?
@@Microbehunter thank you very much for the answer. i detected by switching and turning things that its in the eye piece tube assembly. by looking into it it seems to be cells or somekind of biological growth inside. (it was stored in a damp shed for 15years). it is unusable right now so i guess i will try to fix it my best anyway since i cant really ruin it more.
thank you very much.
Man, you are awesome
very very cool!
how can you shoot microorganisms like in a video. I am very curious
wow keep it up brother
Thank you
