  • Another tight game, another UNC loss. The Tar Heels fall to Pitt 73-65 to move to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in the ACC. Things are bleak and we pretty much know what we have with this UNC team. Spenser Dalton and Connor Sparrow join Ross Martin to recap the game and talk Tar Heel hoops (00:18). 247Sports/CBS Sports National basketball writer Isaac Trotter joins for the second half of the show to provide national perspective on UNC and preview the Duke game (28:58).

I can’t remember the last time that I felt like Unc had a zero percent chance of beating Duke, I don’t honestly think that Unc can play within 20 of Duke. I just don’t see how Unc is going to get a shot off against Duke’s size.

Completely agree. This game Saturday will make the Austin Rivers gw and 2010 game in Cameroon look like child's play.

I completely agree, I can see a record in blocked shots coming, the most in the entire history of the rivalry, just sad.

Ian has dropped off because he’s top of the scouting report instead of RJ. As a result RJ has started scoring a little better but still not up to last year’s RJ.

Defensive game planning against UNC is a scout's dream. So easy to disrupt this team offensively it's actually sad.

This is what happens when you don't update your approach to the changing landscape in college basketball it's all about NIL and how can a college basketball program can put a player in the best position to get to the NBA and UNC has to get that right or it's going to be a NIT team for the foreseeable future hopefully Bubba gets on board with UNC embracing NIL and getting A DAMN GM, also adding some people with experience in the NBA to add to the coaching staff and getting Jordan and other alumni with deep pockets to invest in UNC basketball's future, something has to give.

Caveman Cade Tyson……hands of STONE while on offense and wear concrete sandals while on defense. He’s completely unplayable but at 6’7” I think he will be a beast next year ((IF)) he join the UNC Wrestling team!
    Just my opinion.

Admittedly I did not see Cade Tyson play at all prior to him coming to UNC. But Idk how anyone sees that jump shot of his, which is more of a heave than a shot, and thought it could be hit consistently in a power 5. He has been an awful.
Speaking to your piece on recruiting, aside from Manek, Cormac, Ingram, Elliot, Ian, and Powell, Hubert has whiffed on every single player he's brought in. Badly. Granted those pieces have been really good for the most part, but they are also offset by how terrible the other pieces have been. Hubert just doesn't seem to know how to construct a roster or make different pieces work. He has one style of play and sticks to it no matter how unqualified his players are to run that offense. It doesn't really matter who you bring in if they aren't utilized correctly.
The 2022 run was a complete fluke that was almost entirely the result of ginger Larry Bird Brady Manek shooting lights out from late Feb till April. I don't credit pretty much anyone else for that run (outside of RJ against Baylor and Love's 3 on MW) because look how 2023 went. So all in all Hubert has had one really good season last year where he had more time than any other coach to load up his roster because he declined the NIT and got a head start on the portal. He can't have that luxury every year, and maybe we're seeing what happens when he doesn't based on how this year has gone.
I think his job is safe for at least another season, but he has to make some changes this offseason to his coaching staff you are absolutely right Ross. They don't do anything for these teams. Their scouting sucks, Hubert seems to be the only actual guy bringing in recruits, and these teams can't shoot, defend, or rebound for shit. Why are they all still employed? Move on from your "buddies" Hubert, or you'll find yourself unemployed too.
