it actually changed perspectives of many perverted anime fans who used to depict ayanami in that way they got what they wanted until all of it was taken away from them
Everybody is much more mature. They actually talk about their problems instead of holding everything In. Don't get me wrong they are very much the same people. But asuka tries actively cooking for shinji which even Misato noticed. They're not indifferent to shinji's pain as much, they just wanted him to step up and Shinji deep down knows that he has to stop feeling he's being forced to do all of it. He has a choice, but it's also in shinjis nature to help because he thinks if he chooses not to do it, nobody will ever truly accept him. So by the end shinji is ready to let go of them, to care about them and let them worry about him, but to not become dependant on their approval to be someone in life. A weaker shinji would've backed down when having a gun pointed at him and being told not to pilot the eva one last time. A weaker shinji would have not have asked to know his father better.

@@normaaliihminen722 I Disagree, the entire point of the almost-Third Impact was that Shinji escapism by trying to save someone that was already gone made everyone else suffer. Shinji at the end of the last Rebuild movie stops running away from the problems and face them head on actually doing something about it and trying to understand those around him... The fact that talking things out was the solution instead of an epic fight was a really powerful message in my opinion and Mari rescuing Shinji at the end (they get out of the anti-universe at the train station, after Mari takes Shinji's bomb-necklace), is kinda of a meta message to the fans about being time to grow up and move on.
@@normaaliihminen722 Same. I think the problem is that Anno went too meta with the ending which in a weird way ended up contradicting the actual story of Evangelion. So, from an out-of-universe perspective the message is consistent (Shinji does create the real world, for instance) but from an in-universe perspective he accepted escapism and chose to bring everyone back and live in a world without Evangelions. What shoulda happened is Shinji maybe brings back Rei and Asuka and then the survivors rebuild the world. But maybe Anno thought that'd be too similar to End of Evangelion. This way Shinji fixes things, but he's not running away from the world and accepts his reality. Yeah, there's a lot of work to do but with human will and ingenuity the survivors can rebuild. You can even have Mari x Shinji at the end. Have it be like a time skip several years later where a lot of the rebuilding is done.
