I think Mame is a good choice. Even though it might look goofy to have Kiryu crying for the dog, you have to think about it from another perspective. What does Mame represents? He represents the mundane and simple life Kiryu had in Okinawa, with his children. The simple, unbridled joy that exudes from the doggo during this clip is a reminder of the happiness Kiryu felt during his years at the orphanage, that innocent joy and peace. This pure happiness that he had to renounce for his family. So in conclusion, Mame is the representation of the happiest time of Kiryu's life, so showing him on the theater screen is brillant storytelling and writing. The writers don't need to show you a bunch of characters : they only need to show Mame and it's enough to convey the message. In conclusion, Mame is the representation of Kiryu's time in Okinawa when he was happy as a single dad. In the next essai I will explain what the author meant by "the curtains are blue"-

I would like this song more if there were less characters missing from the Soul Friends list. We need people like Rikiya and Nakahara, Yumi, Sayama, etc. Edit: there are tons more, like all other 4 and 5 protags, shinji, tachibana, and more. But we *NEED* mame. Edit 2: I feel like a reason for not doing this is length, but also he has a lot soul friends, increase the length of this section, make it really quick, or do a montage. Those all work better than only having like 4 people.
