      Dude, you said it. How does a guy going from being the most athletically gifted player at that time to its most lethal midrange shooter and dominant post player? By 1996-97, he was pretty much average athletically as far as NBA SGs (he still had the giant hands, though). He just learned how to use footwork and angles to his advantage.

      He was always an artist even from his rookie year, just different levels. '91-93 Jordan was the most balanced blend of his freakish athleticism and driving aggressiveness with his long-developed lethal technique, footwork, and mid-range game. But '96 Jordan to the end of his career was basically Picasso with a paintbrush who will either get you a guaranteed bucket in the post/mid-range or a beautiful last-second assist. The 90s wasn't ready for post-Detroit Mike.

    No one scored the basket ball like MJ but what really stood out in this montage was his passing. As Pippen said, MJ did what he needed to do to win. If his had to get 15 assists, he’d do it. If he needed to get 15 rebounds, he’d do it. If he needed to get 50, he’d do it. Because a dude doesn’t try to get a triple double every game, doesn’t mean he can’t. Remember he got 11 triple-doubles out of 12 games when he played as a point guard.

    One thing i notice about Jordans and Lebrons passing game, is that there are many times when Lebron passes for the sake of passing and actually puts pressure on his team mates to create on their own with someone on them. Whereas Jordan always passed for the right reason, he was being doubled, and there was an easier shot for his team mate as a result. People don't pay this enough attention when comparing the two players. To me it is just one of many reasons why Lebron does not even come close to the goat.

    • @boogieloo1831
      @boogieloo1831 6 лет назад +16

      Thank You - media makes so much of passing while conveniently ignoring how LBJ's passing is a function of the position he plays. He's the only playmaker and controlling 90% of his team's possessions is his job and the nature of the Cavs system.
      MJ played in the Triangle which spreads passing around to create shots and he was the shooting guard, a back court player that played off the ball. He's supposed to have less assists - but his passing ability with his huge hands that gripped the ball is better than LBJ's, period.
      It's all about pushing narratives today by corporate media. They're trying to make money.

    • @boogieloo1831
      @boogieloo1831 5 лет назад +8

      The reality is though that when you look at ALL the stats, his numbers are the best overall. Media and LBJ fans are facetious. LBJ has longevity stats over MJ and that's pretty much it. Total points doesn't mean much except that LBJ has already played much longer than MJ.
      When you look at per game statistics and countless other areas, MJ is still the greatest. This numbers argument is asinine and usually it's some kid that is regurgitating ESPN bs without actually knowing the specifics. LBJ's numbers are not better than MJ's overall, period.
      And that's not even assessing for the ease of scoring on today's NBA or how there are more possessions per game and more free throws per game. Countless more foul calls etc.
      And playoff and Finals numbers - all MJ. He has 40+ playoffs and Finals records. The most by far. Bill Russell is number two with 15 records. It's not even close. LBJ barely registers with less than 10.
      I could go on and on. The numbers argument by ESPN is one of countless lies today's media is willing to tell for the sake of enriching themselves and the NBA. It's not even close to the truth anymore.

    The biggest difference between Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant is that MJ was an artist while Kobe was just a practitioner. The biggest difference between Michael Jordan and LeBron James is that MJ used his skills to blend in with his team while LeBron uses his to pad the stats and then expects his team to blend in with him. Michael Jordan = true greatness.

    • @anthonycelestin3559
      @anthonycelestin3559 4 года назад +2

      MJ got to his spots & scored at will. He's kind of like Kevin Durant with his style of play just having no wasted motions & scoring easily but MJ is way more active off the ball, has more footwork, less dribbling, didnt use a lot of unnecessary moves but had enough counters if needed if the defense telegraphed any of his moves and was more aggressive offensively constantly putting pressure on the defense by shooting a high volume of shots & still being effecient.
      With all the spacing in todays NBA, players have a lot of freedom to do different dribbling packages. Durant dribbles a lot often using different packages like crossovers & hesi dribbles. KD doesnt over-dribble a lot to the degree of a Harden or does indecisive dribbling like a Kyrie; KD is straight to the point wit his dribbling but even when he dribbles the offense still becomes stagnant & it becomes typical ISO ball with everyone watching before KD creates separation from a crossover or gets a defender offbalence wit a hesi move.
      MJ in the triangle offense never really ISOed, actually nobody really ISOed, if MJ brought the ball up he initiated the offense by feeding the ball in the post or finding an open cutter & after MJ did that he moved without the ball to generate an open shot for himself. If MJ actually had to do anything off the dribble, never really used a crossover at all, probably would only crossover people once in a while, most of the time it was a quick side to side two dribble move & then he scored. Only dribbling move MJ did was a hesi move but MJ didnt need to a lot of dribbling before he did his hesi like a KD, MJ just did the hesi in a quick decisive way without really doin a dribble package. KD has a habit of standing in the corner when he doesnt have the ball which isnt necessarily a bad thing because your still generating a lot of space standing in the corner & corner 3s open up the offense but its still lazy to a degree cause when your standing in the corner its like your giving up on the play.
      MJ was never satisfied trying to creating offense, if MJ didnt get the ball he moved without the ball constantly trying to get the ball back creating an opportunity for his team or himself. Also MJ is better getting paint shots & midrange shots, KD relies more on 3s & 3s are more streaky. U can argue KD is more efficient wit how he scores & he scores more easily wit his height & overall shooting ability & I think in a actual one on one game KD would beat MJ. But basketball isnt just 1 on 1, within the game MJ is a better scorer wit his mentality & his complete arsenal.

    3:50. Jordan gets stripped, loose ball rolling toward half court. No violation risk but two players approaching to take it. Jordan looks, sees where the ball is as he trots to retrieve it. In a second he glances back, makes a note of where his team/defenders are, and then he turns toward the ball to grab it make that pass before that 2nd defender got back. This play worked because MJ a) had the balls to look away from a loose ball to see where people would be after he picked it up; b) had a quick enough mind to scan the floor, turn around, and remember where people were when he turned back; and c) thought two moves ahead in the first place, when every other player would just prioritize securing the possession. It's an insignificant play, but the small things that get missed because of the truly spectacular.

    As a student of the game, I’m a huge MJ fan. Note the high number of 3 pointers in this highlight reel. The reason is that for three seasons, the league shortened the 3 point line to 22 feet all around. (The standard NBA 3 point dimensions are 23.75 feet on the high arc and 22 feet on the corners.) The reason for this was as an experiment to try to increase scoring in what was becoming an increasingly defensive oriented game. Jordan shot .427 from 3 land in1995-1996 and .374 in 1996-1997. These rank among the highest for his career. Starting in 1997-1998 the NBA switched back to the old dimensions and Jordan shot .238 from 3 point range that season. This highlight reel is a lot of fun because it gives you an idea what Jordan’s game would look like today with the relaxed defense on the perimeter. Today’s weak perimeter defense is equivalent to shortening the 3 point line as they did in the mid-90’s.

    • @dtownman6130
      @dtownman6130 6 лет назад +2

      Peter Regal actually it was 93 to 97 it was shortened. Mj dislocated a finger on his shooting hand before 98 season so he was ineffective from 3.

    • @bcjclj
      @bcjclj 6 лет назад +7

      His 3pt percentage went due to him playing with torn ligaments in his index finger. Not because they moved the line back. He shot 38% from the original line in 89. He also only attempted a little over 100 3’s the entire season in 98. Every year he shot bad from 3 was due to him not attempting enough 3’s to get a rhythm. When he attempted at 2.5 a game he shot high 30’s-40’s. But he never relied on the 3ball.

      The exact years were the 1994-1995, 1995-1996, and 1996-1997 seasons. Perhaps I should have also mentioned the 1994-1995 even though he only played 17 games and the playoffs. For the record, he shot .500 from 3 point land even from that small sample of games.

    • @cpregal
      @cpregal 6 лет назад +5

      bcjclj
      No doubt he could shoot better from 3 point land if he had focused on it. My point was to highlight how modern relaxed perimeter defenses allow for a lot more 3 pointers than in the golden era of hoops. Here is a sick mental exercise: Imagine Larry Bird’s 3 point game in the modern of matador (Ole!) defense instead of in the hand checking, perimeter-mugging defense of the golden age. Larry Legend could easily shoot .500 or higher from 3 point land in today’s game.

The GOAT made all others look like lambs led to the slaughter. He truly was poetry in motion. Kings pay homage and Warriors take notice, the Thunder quakes, and Pistons shake, Lakers are but a drop in the ocean, Rockets can't handle the commotion, because they all fall short when he steps on the court. It's his basketball, they just get to play with it.

    Greatest ever, but also best mid range jump shooter ever, and it is not even close. Just the degree of difficulty on those shots alone makes him the best mid range player ever, bc he hit them at such a high percentage. Underrated strength, handle, the balance he played with I have never seen anyone else play with. Nothing looks shaky, ever. Supposedly Lebron is the better athlete, but not really. Those turnarounds are so very difficult it is ridiculous, and he made them look easy. Kobe had a nice post game but nowhere near MJ. I cannot understand older people who say he is not the greatest.

    • @nostalgicbliss5547
      @nostalgicbliss5547 5 лет назад +2

      Dirk's fader is different, technically to Jordan's. So they're right when they say that.
      He usually shot it one-legged, using it to create separation from the defender.
      Plus he is like 7ft with a high release, so his shot was just different to Jordan. Kobe is the one that really copied MJs fader.
      Hell, even Hakeem in the late 80s and all of the 90s had a devastating fader that he abused more than the dreamshake.

  • @andrewojeda250

    Michael Jordan, the greatest to ever do it. Im the biggest Kobe fan, but this video is an example of what a true basketball player looks like. Most of these shots are after the ball has been moving in a system, i feel as Lebrons game is predicated on holding the ball. He was the first superstar to come along that i have seen to start making triple doubles important. No knock on Lebron top 5 ALL TIME No question. But to me, the greatest player is measured by his offense AND defense. Jordan won DPOY and scored 30ppg while he let Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson do their thing. He didnt need to rack up rebounds or assists, He just did what the team needed and thats SCORE AND DEFEND. Lebron also does what the team needs, but he also has never played in a great system like the triangle or coach Pops system. You cannot play the way lebron plays within a system he IS the system. Which is why he only has 3 rings compared to Kobe, Jordan, Kareem, Magic. If lebron played for a system he would have WAY more rings by now BUT LESS stats. All in all, IF lebron wins this year and beats golden state with this talentless roster, he will have a case for GOAT.

    • @HoustonIsImmortal
      @HoustonIsImmortal 6 лет назад +3

      AROProductions He still won't measure up to Jordan. After his stacked team lost to the Mavs in 2011 as he choked away 4th quarter after 4th quarter, he fell out of contention, not to mention being destroyed by the Spur twice in the Finals. Top 5 or 6? Definitely.
