It goes against the very existence of the association in charge of dispensing license. The technology is meant to be used as a general mass storage medium. They make money from licensing the technology. Finally, the could open the doors to law suites from Microsoft, as it could be considered legally questionable to use their position to prevent their competition from using a technology that is widely used for the purpose Microsoft intends.

Also! Sony sold their stack in blu-ray back in 2006. So although they WERE members of that group, they aren't anymore.

The same reason Nintendo allows cross platforms play with Sony/Microsoft devices, as well as iOS and Android... They aren't "enemies", they're competing, I think Sony and Microsoft already made that clear.

Even if Sony DID own the Blue-Ray brand that does not mean that they wouldn't put their stuff on other platforms. Liberation Maiden 1st is proof of that as they lend a hand in the music for the 3DS exclusive. Also PS Island is a mobile game by Sony for iOS and Android.

I'm not talking about putting a Nintendo game ON a Sony or Microsoft console, that's never going to happen, as much as people want it to (for some reason, instead of putting their manhood in their pants and just buying a Nintendo console..) I'm talking about playing with PS3/Xbox 360 users, even PS4/Xbox One users gimmegimmegames(DOT)com/2013/10/nintendo-allowing-cross-platform-online-play-playstation-xbox-users/

Sony doesn't own Blu-ray Disc. But tehy are the biggest Blu-ray Disc Association member. They make the group the most money. Microsoft needa to pay extra because they use many technology from Sony like Atrac3Plus media codec

hmm... a huge blow has been dealt to sony with this one... i'd know because i actually prefer the playstation, and 1 of the stronger reasons for that up until this point was its exclusive use of the blu-ray disc technology.

2560x1440 resolution? Console devs won't bother. T.V.s are only 1080p. No incentive too. No reason too. 60fps or better? Unlikely. Having a framerate too high is unnecessary. Especially when you need to sacrifice visuals in order to obtain it.
