Junior Walker & The All Stars ~ What Does It Take (To Win Your Love) 1968 Soul Purrfection Version

- Welcome to Motown Monday!
The very first Billboard recognized R&B Chart topping single was "My Girl" by the Temptations and it spent six weeks in that spot until Jr Walker's & The All Stars blasted it out of its way and spent four weeks topping that new R&B with "Shotgun", a #4 Hot100 hit in 1965.
Johnny Bristol remembers that in the early 60's he and partner Jackey Beavers were performing at the same Battle Creek, MI club as was Junior & His All Stars who proved why they were so popular because they were able to play blues, rock, jazz and soul.
This was their second #1 R&B spending two weeks in that top spot and peaking at #4 pop, a gorgeous mid tempo Motown classic written by Johnny Bristol, Vernon Bullock and Harvey Fuqua who was once of the Moonglows and later on became the man that helped Sylvester attain mainstream status.
The real star of this song is that wonderful saxophone, it was like the sun breaking through on a cloudy day. The voice, well Jr Walker did not feel he was made to sing, but sing he did and the results were impressive. The first 35 seconds was Jr Walker's sax and then the vocals came in. James Jamerson and the rest of the gang were there to play the music updating the signature Motown sound. Jr's last pop appearance was for 1970's "Do You See My Love" a #32 chart hit. - Видеоклипы

White as they come. Motown was the best. Brought us all together. Nothing will ever take that away. Love it at 67 myself. Going to love till the day I die. Passing it one to my grandkids now.
I wish we could bring back this sound and throw this modern day rap/hip-hop stuff into the garbage where it belongs. Motown was some of the best music ever. None of today's music can come close to touching it.
SO. TRUE!
I thank God for all the Motown artists and producers who blessed our lives with such a happy, joyful danceable memorable soundtrack. How could we ever repay them. God rest them all. 😊

Why can"t we have music like this anymore? The sounds of horns and a chorus were such a great sound compared to the empty, soulless garbage that gets dumped on us today.
You are so right…I suspect that real music, layered music, takes work ethic and talent. Young people today have neither. They have no idea what they’re missing and what their memories will lack.

Background singers the andantes, background singers on many many Motown songs, in fact this song was recorded in Detroit at Motown, junior walker hated it didn't want to record it, it sat on the shelf for sometime before they convince him to record it, the rest is history
@@tonywaldon7801
Motown founder
Berry Gordy also hated it,
and originally had it as a
B-side.
But DJ’s kept playing it so much
that he relented,
and switched this to the A-side.

First heard this masterpiece when I was six years old; still listening 54 years later! RIP,Junior 😇
"Gonna blow again fa ya"...Junior's voice just fit this song perfectly. Plus the wail of his Sax just added to the magic. This came out in 69 or 70....but the stereos never did this song justice. Today on some nice speakers...you can hear every note and feel that soul wrenching back beat...just sooo smooth. Thanks Jr and all your AllStars! Miss those innocent days of my mis spent youth.....
Came out in 68, but became a huge hit in Philly Smer of 69, yr of WoodStock, wen I was 12, and a few dudes were fighting in Nam, and remember a neighbor who returned by spring of 69(5/1969) from a back wound, and was suffering from bad flashbacks while near the A Shau Valley where the USAs 101 fought a bitter fight on Hamburger Hill.
I could hear every note when I first heard it. Really, there is only ONE note and that's and its called "soul stirring."😀
