  • I was getting annoyed by not being able to see my trailer when I reversed down the boat ramp to load my skiff. So I decided to make my own boat guides without too much effort and money. Let me know what you think!

    Agreeing with other posts. It's been my experience with pvc and seperately with hardware on trailers at high speed vibrations. Both like to break quickly. A lot more expensive. Schedule 80 GREY PVC may hold up better. I'd imagine those shims will vibrate out of place as the Ubolts break through the WHITE Schedule 40PVC.

    I like it and hate it. First time you bump the pipes, they will more than likely break off. The drilled holes and bolts passing through increases the chances of breaking at the weak point. I would suggest using the u-bolts to mount a piece of steel pipe(round or square) and then sliding your PVC over the steel pipe.

      HEY THANKS for the feedback! Don't stress about the galvanized u-bolts too much! The zinc ones i got at home depot have held up fine with minimal rusting (I soak them with the hose water when i'm done. The inches for the u bolts is based off your trailer frame that you're putting the u bolt around. just measure that. hope this helps

    guides are the back board of the trailer, meaning you sometimes bump them bad boys to get the ball in the hoop/ boat lined up..... are you sure that not having a metal insert will allow the PVC to break the first time you nudge them too hard???? video is 2 years old i was just wondering if you ran into that problem.

    • @topwatertrev3291
      @topwatertrev3291  4 года назад

      i never had a issue with them breaking. if you use shims to extend the poles out from the trailer then you will have room to wiggle. this was made for my small 16ft skiff

    Do you use this method you both can't be no wider than your trailer all the wars that trailer has to be about 2 inches wider on both sides to do this

    • @r.cbailey3936
      @r.cbailey3936 4 года назад

      I went and spent $25 on material and got it ready to go but didn't work because my boat was wider as a backing of the trailer the guys won't bend that far it will break the 2 in CV pipe

    • @topwatertrev3291
      @topwatertrev3291  4 года назад

      Correct. That's why i used wooden shims to create seperation from the trailer.

    Hmmmm. There's a better way. I stuck a couple of 1 inch thick PVC lengths (3 foot long) in my trailer frame, and voila, it worked without any further mucking about. There happened to be a space around the fenders that was a tight perfect fit. After the boat is back on the trailer, I remove the PVC so I don't lose the PVC while traveling on the road. I only need the pvc guides while loading the boat.
