This was amazing but heartbreaking. I just want to give that guy a hug. However, I feel like I'm never going to be able to fully come to terms with that "divorce". Interpol just means so much to me.
man. I LOVE CARLOS. he rly made interpol but it breaks my heart that he rly didnt like the bass. im glad hes in a much better place now and that he gave us so much timeless music when he rly didnt have to. thanks for this!
Thanks boice for this wonderful interview. Carlos' insight on his time with the band and his childhood trauma is quite jarring. Thank you Carlos also for opening up to us and I'm very glad you're on the path of finding out who Carlos Dengler is and what Carlos Dengler wants. I'm very much looking forward to your future endeavors and am keeping an eye out daily for updates on your website - about what you love, what you don't love, what you do and what you feel. Your essays are a treat. Take care and thanks for the great music. Although I recently dived into Interpol, it helped me during tough times and still does. Your creative and inspiring bass lines did inspire me to be more creative as well. Not only on the bass, but on my process of writing songs as a whole. P.S. : Antics is number one indeed. Greetings from France.
Hello! I'm so sorry for the delayed--just seeing this. Thanks so much for taking the time to write and for the kind words. Very appreciated. I will pass them on to Carlos. He's interviewing me on 10/1. Event will most likely be live-streamed: www.strandbooks.com/events/event550?title=nevermind_the_hardships_album_listening_party_in_conversation_with_carlos_dengler Hope all is well with you!
Saw Interpol in a concert in 2007 and is quite amazing listening to his words. By that time it was so clear to me that, as he says, he "was really bad on that tour" and he "just didn't want to do it". It was no surprise to me when he left the band. I'm glad he "found" himself and he feels better nowadays.
Carlos D left and I can’t ignore that his creativity is absent in interpol today. You created awesome bassline then just left. The beef was stupid caused by them all but I really hope for a reunion Album.
I loved this so much, very very interesting stuff. I never thought I would have heard Carlos's perspective of his band experience and his youth. Amazing thanks for uploading it!!! :))
I have hope that interpol and Carlos would be friends again or civil. If Billy Corgan and James Iha placed their differences aside or worked them out Carlos and interpol can too... in time of course.
I don't know if any decent music would come of it, and I generally despise reality TV, but I would definitely watch a show chronicling this guy, Morrissey and Billy Corgan going into the studio together. The magnitude of conflicting self-centers would practically open a rift in in the space-time continuum. Therapy? I'm not sure Fleetwood Mac even went into therapy together lol.

I'm so glad I found this, I've wondered for years what Carlos' perspective was, and this really filled in the blanks

Self-absorbed drama queens: Carlos and host alike.
very harsh words - and disagreed.
And you’re a tosser. F off.
Comes with the creative territory
Couldn't agree more.
You can just hear the fatigue set in to the interviewer's voice as the interview wears on. Interacting with toxic narcissists will do that to anyone.
this gentleman being interviewed needs to watch his mouth. too much toilet talk
