It’s quite simple: Ogerpon went up to the judges with the Grass mask on, asked if she could win the regionals, they said no. Then she took off the mask and asked again, and they said yes. They just couldn’t ruin her day at that point
She didn't win unfortunately
@@MoxieBoostedshe won the people's hearts, and that's good enough in my book.
@@MoxieBoosted She won in our hearts.
@@MoxieBoostedshhhhh, don't tell her
@@MoxieBoosted, who said she asked to win the regionals?
i think it just so happened to be that people mostly worried about prepping for water/fire ogerpon rather than using it
I’m glad all forms of Ogerpon are seeing some spotlight. Definitely a great design for a Pokémon. SHE BONK HARD!
I forget ogrepon is naturally a female XD
Rock type Ivy Cludge should be renamed Rock Bonk when Ogerpon wears the Cornerstone Mask.
Sounds like a cool gimmick
Fire type: burning staff of death
Water type: wet long stick 😏
@@FlygonkingVGCI don't want Ogerpon to handle the wet long stick
Hearthfire: Burning Bonk
Wellspring: Danger Pool Noodle
@@abelexclusa9856 danger pool noodle. Bro I'm dead💀
Honestly, Ogerpon Unga Bunga form is conceptually my favorite. It's literally just a cave(wo)man with a rock club whose whole purpose in life is to bonk whatever's in front of it until they're concussed.
Man, I was there during the weekend competing, and on day 2, I was watching Jamie being an absolute menace with that Teal Mask Ogerpon, I actually started experimenting with a Mirror herb/Adrenaline orb set after it, and it's actually doing wonders so far. Jamie's an absolute menace and his matches was hella entertaining
I was wondering last night when I went on showdown building teams to play with, if I should see if ogerpon grass can be good cuz I'm one of those people. I realized that what if I run it with adrenaline orb just so that i don't have to worry about intimidate at all cuz I'll be plus 1 in atk n speed. Then I wondered again on why is nobody using this build for ogerpon grass. Like it sounds really good and useful considering you can just flat out ignore the idea of bringing a physical attacker to a potential intimidate at the start of the game.
@@aerostar1334
I've started to pivot towards Mirror Herb after this realization because yeah ultimately they can just not bring intimidate or anything. I've been using Mirror Herb w/ Swagger on a Prankster or a Fast mon (give or take tbh, both have advantages/disadvantages), but this allows Ogerpon to forcibly trigger a +2 off of itself, and with tera giving a +1 speed ,it's been a relatively threatening lead
There is glaring weaknesses to it too, like they can protect the swagger, they can switch in a dark mon/etc, they might accidentally switch in a physical attacker and now they have a +2, etc. No play ever really comes w/o risk mostly with the amount of possibilities we have per turn
I think Teal Mask is probably the most unexplored just because you have so many options with it. Arguably not the best but hey, sometimes bringing something that isn't exactly the best but covers for what you need it to cover is in of itself a better choice. It's still an incredibly strong Mon from stats alone.
Im suprised its not used more just because tear's ability is defiant and you could run band or well in jammy's case a crit boost item
@@cheetahofthewind13 I don't think band is that good of an item on Ogerpon simply because one of it's strength lies in the different moves in it's move pool and being locked in pretty much ensures that you're pretty much ever only going to be pressing ivy cudgel and while ivy cudgel is a good move, the grass version is just alright. Even though I find the idea of something like rillaboom to boost grass moves and then ogerpon with band using horn leech to be very funny.
its a great mon and has a lot of potential. honestly i dont even think the lack of the 20% damage boost is a big issue because you actually have an item slot which gives you some more options to maximize your damage, plus defiant. the main issues with it are just the existence of rillaboom as competition to it, and not having dual stab like the other forms do. especially since it doesnt have the option to tera into another type and use stab tera blast to break through mons that resist grass
That's why I was surprised more by Cornerstone Mask then Teal Mask, because of Teal Mask's Item slot
@@kingmoosh2004This can be solved with items, the problem is outside of STAB and Knock Off, base Ogerpon's coverage is pretty bad since all of her coverage moves at most do 75 damage.
This is why I love Ogerpon. You have the obvious top forms but you also have the other variants who can can bring things you never expected and who bring legitimate niches and reward skills with efficiency and badass points.
What do you mean I like it only because it’s the cutest legendary yet?
I think this is a similar situation to 2014 worlds. Jamie made a big meta call that people wouldn’t be ready for it and it payed off in a massive way.
The plural of Ogerpon is Ogerpon.
I love how the title can be read both ways.
Rock Grass has the potential to be a pretty good type combination but only two mons have that.
It's one of the only combo cases where a mon has Rock and I wouldn't prefer it to have Ground (because man that 4x ice weakness is brutal)
@@captain_buggles Rock isn’t weak to ice
@@Valentinesdayghost yeah, I know. I was talking about Grass/Ground being 4x weak to ice, and that being a big reason why I would rather have a Grass/Rock mon, even though in most other dual type cases, I think being part Ground is better than being part Rock, even if Rock isn't weak to Ice.
Like how even though Ground/Flying is also 4x weak to Ice, it has other super useful properties that I think rank it higher than Rock/Flying anyway.
@@captain_buggles OHHHHH my bad
What Rock/Grass types even are there, Cradily and what else?
@@Valentinesdayghost Llileep, Cradily and Ogerpon are the only 3 gras/rock..and its a shame cause the typing is really great.
I love using teal ogerpon with band, band+scarf combo that u can't intimidate, knock off and ivy are terrifying and u turn and Stomping are nice moves to have
ogerpon is really well designed. I like the trade of no secondary stab for a held item
Absolutly love your videos! Keep up the amazing work. ♡♡♡
This was a super cool tournament, with a lot of really interesting pokemon placing well. In top 8 alone, we had Psyspam, Thunderus Therian, Regidrago, Rock and Grass Ogerpon (and those were the only two forms funny enough), Clear Amulet Close Combat Iron Hands, and Heatproof Sinistcha. Even in grands, despite the fact that they were only using Meta Mons, the only similar pokemon the two players had was Flutter Mane, which neither brought, was really neat.
Pretty sure we saw grass being good coming from the start, but rock coming out of nowhere is super cool. The idea that rock, offensively at least, wasn’t really anything to worry about was a super cool weakness in the format that got exploited
This is a really satisfying shorter form video, I like it a lot!
Playing with coin flips in competitive is hilarious. I love how bold you have to be to do that.
Hey there fellow MRer. Happy to hear you are able to do this full time! Congrats!
Dang ur quick

@@MoxieBoosted of course. I figured when I first heard it you were a Pokémon fan (I’m currently Poky radaring in X) but wasn’t sure and then I saw your channel a while back. It’s just nice to see a fellow leftist leaning politically minded Pokémon player
These analysis videos are awesome.
I started with using base Ogerpon, and it’s cool to see someone make it work so well.
And if I were to make a prediction, if Kyogre is to run Tera Water in restricteds, this exact form will be used even more.
If Kyogre is a problem, I don't see why people wouldn't run Wellspring Ogerpon. Water Absorb and double resist in case of Weezing, on top of not being weak to Ice Beam.
@Endershock1678 Sharp Beak Tornadus might be annoying as hell to deal with though.
@@YoJoRockThaBeat Tornadus will never not be annoying to deal with.
she just having some fun in all her forms
Ogerpon is easily not just my favourite Pokémon from the DLC, but one of my favourite Pokémon overall, and I'm really happy to see just how well she's doing in tournaments!
Cornerstore ogrepon is quite convenient
its funny because everyone was saying sturdy was bad on cornerstone ogerpon because it was a little too bulky to take good advantage of it
but now here we are and now its considered good lol
When I learned about all Ogerpon masks and benefits of each of them, I immediately thought that the Rock one was the better. Not only because of what you said about Sturdy + Follow me being a guaranteed 2 turn redirection (counting no double ups), but also because it is a fast Sturdy user. Pretty much all other relevant Sturdy users are slow as hell, so it is a way of ensuring these slow Pokemon will make at least one move, but Ogerpon is actually decently fast and can threat a KO on some Pokemon even before they can act, like Urshifu or Hisuian Arcanine, and then still redirect moves for its partner in the next turns.
Rock oger has been my personal favorite in both singles and doubles since the dlc dropped. I find that rock stab is incredibly strong into the meta and sturdy is a very obnoxious ability to deal with vs a mon with so much damage output. Also a big fan of the utility options on it.
What is the best EV spread for rock Ogerpon?
Of course it’s Jamie with unorthodox Ogrepon, love that guy
I've always thought razer claw for grass ogrepon was good and I'm glad there was someone that believed in it like I did
As a cornerstone user, it usually can be the longest living thing in a battle assuming you use horn leech for recovery
What EV spread do you use for that Ogerpon?
I think hearthflame mask is the most easy to use competitivly because fire/grass is just really strong typing. However i personally belive that the teal mask is the best because it has more build variety aloowing it to fit on different types of teams. I got loaded dice bullet seeded the other day it was nuts
ive been a grasspon fan since day 1. defiant + tera speed just seems so incredibly potent
ive made so many teams with it although i have yet to actually use any of them lol
My ogerpon shall rise. Everybody shall fear the might of The Throngler.
AKA how she managed to kill the "Loyal" Three in spite of type disadvantage, numerical disadvantage, and zero effective moves.
So glad for her
It was fantastic seeing Teal Mask and Cornerstone in top 8! It's not quite accurate to say Amoonguss beat Ogerpon in day 2 usage. Amoonguss, Iron Bundle, and Hearthflame actually all tied in usage, but since they only show top 12, Ogerpon got cut
when intimidate is everywhere , defiant is goated
Another banger video
What I think that ogerpon is absolutely adorable and deserves all 4 of her forms to win every match ever
I still find weird how dominating is a mon that has a clear expiration date on the next generation.
Ive always enjoyed Jamie Boyts ability to build interesting teams
Ogerpon is Love. 💚 Ogerpon is Life. 🧡
I KNEW GRASS WAS BETTER
SUCK IT SMOGON!
(Used grass for defiant and item slot for scope lens for 50% crit rate ivy cudgel)
Crits are pretty nuts. I made good use of the Lansat Berry in my Unbound Monobug LC run; my Dwebble could happily Shell Smash in something's face, let Sturdy keep him up, and chomp the Berry for a power boost that *stacks multiplicatively* with the Shell Smash boost when it used a high crit Shadow Claw or Stone Edge. (It was also vital against Arabella's field effect, which gave too many of her mons a defense boost- fishing for crit Poison Jab or Earthquake was often my only option.)
I could see it being great, maybe not on Ogerpon, but on a teammate with Fling. 100% crit Ivy Cudgel would not be easy to switch into!
I'm starting to see how she managed to kill the Loyal Three, despite the type match-up.
I guess OGREpon's mask play had even more *layers* than anyone expected.....please laugh, I'm desperate.
I personally have grown to love rock Ogerpon because I use a sandstorm team on casual ladder and it tanks every hit thrown at it,meanwhile the minior I have on the team shell smash acrobatics sweeps my opponents. And the really nice thing is with just sandstorm, Ogerpon eats moonblast from flutter and all other special attackers in format while outputting great damage and even though it is partially support, and sometimes Ogerpon just wins the game for me by being beside my chien pou. I think rock Ogerpon is slept on is what I’m trying to say.
What EV spread is good for Rock Ogerpon?
Just the regular 252 attack and 252 speed with 4 hp. The sandstorm makes it tanky on the special side, and if you Tera it gets a defense boost, so it becomes a very strong mon that takes minimal damage, and hits like a truck.
@@inteleonarmy1838 Thanks!
Me who used scope lens gallade before ogerpon was introduced.
Yeah I knew that scope lens and razor claw are good on the right mons
Watched this happen live. Was kinda crazy
Ogrepon is baby precious and she deserves victory and snacks
Rock ogerpon is easily my favorite. It has the best rock type attack in the game and sturdy. I've been running it next to sash chien poa and for two deadly attackers, neither of which can be OHKOed. It also has follow me so when run next to a specs flutter it can give that menace at least one free turn.
Overall i love using it for hyper offense teams.
What EV spread is good for Rock Ogerpon?
This cute legendary pokemon shines in the smogon❤
Teal Mask ogerpon can run any item due to it being a support pokemon or a high output pokemon
Vanilla Ogrepon looking like she'll be the Sirfetched I wanted from Gen 8 - Grass STAB with bonkers crit chances
I will say, when I initially looked at the Ogrepon forms, I assumed water mask would be the best one defensively, and teal mask would be the best offensive choice. This gives me slight validation for my prediction.
For me, intimidate users can hurt Ogerpons damage output, so running defiant is a slept on strat
It's all Oger from here
Ogerpon Teal mask is also a good stall Pokémon. Slap leech seed on there and boom
Its funny to see You and NielVGC drop a similar video near the same time. Clearly big news
Does anyone know the name of the background music? It's so goood
Fire and water are easier to use but rock and grass have other advantages
At least that’s my impression
Because of how the masks work, rock ogerpon’s Ivy cudgel is actually effectively 120bp/100acc, which jumps to 180bp/100acc after factoring STAB.
I hope you do a video on how well designed Ogerpon is
Imma use razor claw ogerpon in uu now, boutta rank up
My girl’s taking names
Wouldnt the stone form do amazing on a sandstorm team? Why havent we seen that yet? Gets a boost to defense naturally and then a boost to special defense under sand.
I've thought of that and it's the reason I want to get another Ogerpon, though I think the main problems are:
1) Ogrepon's base defense stats aren't really anything outstanding
2) you need to Tera, and while it's probably not bad on opportunity cost because it's Ogerpon you're also getting more weakness, since grass + rock synergize pretty well as individually they have 5 weakness each but together they're 4, so you're also getting weaker on that side if you lose grass
I've messed with it a bunch and the issue is that your main sand setter is ttar who is weak to fighting and will want to tera in front of iron hands but ogerpon cornerstone is also weak to fighting and the tera only helps it marginally into iron hands but you will still want to use it. It just winds up not coming a lot and HArc put in the work a bit more easily for me
@@Manelneedsaname Ogerpon is honestly shockingly really tanky. I remember in Sacramento, Ogerpon were sticking on the field for a really long time because there wasn't an efficient way to remove it fast, as with the right EV's, it can like Surging Strikes or Ice Spinner, so I could see the Defence Boon with enough EV's letting it live some outlandish hits.
That said, the Tera thing is probably an issue, since you can't take full advantage of the Defense Boost without Tera, and if you do Tera, that leave T-Tar weak to everything in the meta.
@manelneedsaname1773 unless you use hippo for sand. I know ttar is better but orge is surprisingly bulky when it has a plus 1 to either defense while still hitting like a truck. It might be worth it
@@noahlong1432 Hippo brothers 💪💪💪💪
all of Ogrepon forms are great. Teal mask has the ability to get a speed boost & a attack boost in a single turn the other 3 deal massive damage out the gate cornerstone becomes the scariest rock type attacker in the game and Wellspring being only weak to Bug & Flying is amazing defensively. Hearthflame is just obv a damage calc destroyer
Honestly, Amoonguss is so good that it might actually the second best pokemon in all of VGC
I love Toronto and I love the teal form
this pokemon is an actual swiss army knife. way too many options and tools to play with
It's almost like Ogrepon is just really strong lol
There's no way that this pokemon isn't going to get nerfed
we should all be grateful that it can’t learn focus energy, which might be better than sd or give teal ogrepon the chance to use a different item or even worse a rock ogrepon that can garuntee crit horn leech to reset sturdy.
I regret to inform you that focus energy is a set that exists
Also, Ogerpon-Cornerstone cannot guarantee critical-hit on Horn Leech, because it cannot hold Razor Claw / Scope Lens. It can guarantee critical-hit on Ivy Cudgel, however.
I always knew people were sleeping on Teal Mask.
I LIVE NEAR TORONTO AND I HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS A REGIONAL
Teal Mask Ogerpon: Gets "intrepid speed" on tera.
Everyone: Nah that's trash
Teal Mask Ogerpon: Outspeeds everything and crits half the time
Everyone: O_O
In Kitakami, onigaki corrects you.
Also delicious vid fr fr
you know what I think of this? Ogerpon is adorable.
Hi. For cornerstone Ogerpon. What is Andrew’s EV spread for it? Still 252 on attack and speed?
GF made sword dog and went okay what if we did it again but more broken. Ogerpon kit is just nutty and teal and rock does seem to be underused masks but teal can be pretty devastating and kinda wanna experiment with a sandstorm rock ogerpon team
regarding the last part, amoonguss will always be good, good players will always do well with it, it just sometimes takes a drop in usage when more brainless HO strategies are introduced like with the DLC. it will always pick back up as good players want consistent balance style teams which always reward better playing and better practice. basically i expect its usage to only go up from here now that the meta is more defined.
I always prefer the cornstone one idk why
Ogrepon maskless is the strongest form. She's so cute!
How much was ogerpons total usage not taking the masks separately
Amooongus is eternal
I like grass and built a team with it for scarlet
Grass/rock may not be the best but say its better than pure grass.
Honestly I don’t like the water one, any good physical mon (attack and defensively or just a faster hyper offensive physical attacker) beats it. Whereas grass outspeeds the physical hyper offensive physical attackers that try to counter it. Meanwhile rock is one of the few reliable counters to volcarona/iron moth volcarona.
tbh ogerpon doesn't seem that bad to me (pretty much a layman tbh) but the stats and abilities pre and post tera are kinda crazy.
do you know what ev/iv spread and nature jamie used?
clearly its not the worst then.
so im further into the video and I knew about and was using ogrepon stone specifically for those traits and knew alot of other people who did so im pretty sure they weren't unexplored.
ITS NOT OGRE FOR AMOONGUS LETS GOOOO
I would like to point out that Grass/Rock and Ground/Flying have perfect defensive/offensive synergy with Grass/Rock being able to threaten all of Ground/Flying’s weaknesses along with some of it’s own weaknesses with Ground/Flying being able to threaten all of Grass/Rocks remaining weaknesses. This is a simplification because you have to terastrilize Landorus to recieve reliable flying damage which brings a hard to manage weakness to electric which is hard to handle when you are most likely already locked into Tera blast. Also there are meta game threats that counter both Pokémon but the 2 type combinations to have potential in there pairing.
Is there any source to get the Ev spreads from the Tournament Teams ?
Firepon is a noob trap that draws people in with EZ dAmAgE. Teal mask definitely has the highest skill ceiling and when we get a player who has mastered it she'll clap all the cheeks
Why the Claw tho what about Scope Lens? Or is that not in game
