OAS, yeah I have that too. I live near an warbird air museum. On clear days, it's all about propellers and piston drive aircraft in the sky.
If I lived near a museum I would never get a thing done! Cheers. -grant
Beautiful layout! And I gotta try your method for trees sometime. They look great.
Thanks, have fun with the tree build! -grant
I’ve seen too many layouts lately that have been torn up to start over, so I was worried from the title that you might be doing the same. I’m glad it was only a portion of the layout and I agree with you that it will be an improvement to your already incredible layout.
Not ready to tear the whole thing out anytime soon Derek... I'll settle for a section here and there!! Cheers. -grant
Wow I just added a new switch to my yard and I thought that was time consuming.😂.
Well the weather is better for the weekend so you can do those trees. After Tuesday it’s turning back to winter. Always enjoy watching your videos. Your layout is fascinating.
Thanks Garry I was actually just out spinning up a bunch a few minutes ago... Going to have to suck up as much Vitamin D as possible before the mid week winter homecoming! Cheers. -grant
Grant I have probably only made maybe a bit more than 50 of your style of aspen trees. I love the variety it makes with both aspen and evergreen. The crayon melting method you use is probably much easier after making as many trees as you have but I still struggle with it and catching them on fire is a real risk 😂😂 The last batch I made I used white heat shrink on the trunks. I thought it worked quite good. Can still mark up the heat shrink with the Black sharpie pen and the heat shrink doesn’t get damaged during planting and replanting 😂. Thanks for the videos and all your great ideas!!
They do get easier the more you make but I do like your work around. Great idea! Thanks for watching. -grant
Nice update. Thanks for sharing. Dave
My pleasure Dave, thanks for stopping by. -grant
Lots of snow,wow..😊
Unfortunately more on the way... +15C here today but winter showing back up in a day or two. Had the chance to get 100 Aspen cores spun up though!! Cheers. -grant
Tough decision to remove a nearly finished section, but the right one! I really felt for you when i saw the sawzall enter the frame!
The new alignment will serve you and your operators well-Great work!
Any day I get to use the chainsaw or the sawzall is a good one John but you're bang on... It was a tough decision to hack out this section but ultimately will pay off. Cheers! -grant
That’s a gutsy call Grant but exciting modifications always end up enhancing the layout! Thanks as always for sharing, Ian
Thanks Ian. Always improvements to be made and I do enjoy a new project! Cheers.
Beautiful long spacious runs as usual. I one day will hopefully build an add on section to accomplish this style also. My small layout with under table staging has the tracks outputs ready for it.
Thanks! I appreciate the fact that you thought of expansion ahead of time. Cheers! -grant
With the title I thought something of a foreboding nature was on the cards - a little re-alinement is definitely a softer result.
Not ready to tear it all out yet! Cheers.
You have one of the nicest layout ive seen .
Thanks so much! Cheers. -grant
Great update Grant. I think we all suffer from some degree of OAS. Look forward to the updates. - Steve
Thanks Steve! Yup I think you're right... Any cool rumbling noise and we'll drop everything and run to go see what it is.
Excellent video Grant, thank you. I'll look for the members only material in a few weeks.
Thanks John. Should have a few more for you to watch in a week or so.
Being left unattended seems ultimately productive! The teardown looked like it vastly improved bike access, must have been a nightmare before. Your little ponding creeks really pinned the reality of the banks and meanders, and even the grasses shrubs, nicely done. Is it worth setting up outside cameras pointing to regular flight paths so you can record the flights you want to check out without dropping everything? Course it won't be the same as experiencing the engine sounds/air movement live.
Thanks! The realignment will certainly be a positive change for operations. As for bikes... Probably should get rid of a few!! Cheers. -grant
Thanks for sharing. Happy St. Patrick's Day.
Thanks Vincent. Just finishing up with the cabinet video for you guys. Should be ready to go in a half hour or so. Cheers!
The thing that I really admire about your layout Grant is your ability and confidence to knock out parts of completed stages and rebuild them to iron out flaws. You give me the confidence to do the same to mine. Cheers.
I think that's what I enjoy the most about the hobby. Nothing is ever complete and can always be improved upon. Have fun with your upcoming mods!
I suffer from OAS too! Mine got expensive and lead to a career….mine has gone undiagnosed for almost 45 years though.
Roger that Nick. Knowing the symptoms is the first step toward help!! Cheers Pal!!
I always called it AADD ,, I like OAS better 👍
I am a victim too 😅
Big job. Respect. Greats from tne Netherlands.
Thank you! Looking forward to getting it back to gather as soon as possible.
Happy St. Patrick's Day, James. A momentus step is achieved to a glorious cabin.
Cheers! -grant
Beautiful layout even without your continuing improvements 👍
Thank you very much!
One awesome layout.
Many thanks!
Wow. Great layout!
Thanks!
Beeeeeeeeautifullll. Loved the opening scene. You're a Master. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Well thats a project wow
Keeps me out of trouble Ron. Cheers!
Rebuilding is part of any railroad but it always looks great after.
It sure is! -grant
Great update!
Hey thanks a bunch!
Grant, you continue to inspire and motivate me! It's fantastic that you're willing to rethink, partially demo, and rebuild even better. In so many ways, your layout is a living work of art.
Wow thanks! I actually enjoy tearing out an old scene and beginning again. Cheers!
Great video. Always love your layout
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the update. This continues to be one of my top five (top three??) favourites on RUclips. The open spaces and long runs are beautiful.
Wow, thanks!
nice video update and am very curious how alls become
Thanks!
Your layout so cool my freind I like look how make n scale on your layout I like how make long trains in n scale
Thanks!
@@SouthernAlbertaRail your welcome
As always, very nice work. But I do have a quick question for you. What are the nominal heights of your upper and lower decks, and if you don't mind me asking, what is your height? I'm just trying to get an idea of how high I might want to build my upper and lower decks.
Track is 41 inches (average) off the ground on the lower level, 62 inches (average) on the top. Bottom of upper lighting valance fascia is 71 inches from the ground. I'm just over 6'1".
@@SouthernAlbertaRail - Thanks for the feedback! I have my lower level set at 46 inches, and am planning on the upper deck at 62 inches, so the same as you on the upper, and higher on the lower. But as in am 6 foot 6 inches tall, I really felt that I needed the extra height on the lower deck, and I could go a bit higher on the upper deck, but I'll make the final decision on that later.
Sounds about right down below. I find that the upper deck height is great for me but some of my operators that are shorter have a tough time.
A pretty cool
Thanks!
had to google for Burmis -is that along a Winnipeg-Vancouver corridor to "bypass" the Rocky Mountains? what railroad is sar? thank you
Southern Alberta Rail is a proto-freelanced railroad I have been modelling for the last 40 years. The layout depicts an actual CP line known as the "Southern Main", built to access mineral resources and keep the Great Northern out of Western Canada.
This line heads west from Medicine Hat Alberta and crosses the Continental Divide into British Columbia via Crowsnest Pass. There is no way around the Rockies only through them! The line is a major artery for bulk traffic to the US from Canada as it connects with the Union Pacific at Eastport Idaho. Cheers! -grant
Might be prototypical, But 1 loco leading a unit coal train looks weird. Prefer 3-4 units w helpers. But I model BN & MRL
Agreed Brad. These are empties. A second lead will get picked up for the loaded trip East. Weird train as it runs opposite to the regular flow of coal trains.
Up grade .. no layout 🤜🤛
Cheers!
