Ritchie Blackmore's favourite song - he has covered it twice.
R.I.P Jeff Beck.. Still I'm sad 😔
I'm 69 this year. 2021
Still loving the Yardbirds 💜
Your still a kid I'm 71yrs old 😂 still I'm sad 🎶🎵🎼
@@johnager9428 And Bakatcha in 2023. Hope all's well. Vale Jeff Beck 🖤
I used to listen to this song and many others hidden under my blankets listening to my transistor late at night...wonderful memories and real music in those days
RIP Jeff Beck, your music will live long in our hearts and memories
Where's the "Love" button? "Like" is not good enough. Yardbirds Fan since 1965, and Proud of it!!
Have loved The Yardbirds ever since I bought their first album For Your Love (American Release) in 1965. Before Hendrix Jeff Beck was the Psychedelic Wizard. The word Psychedelic hadn't even been known. Shapes of Things would blow a lot of minds in 1966.
THE YARBIRDS CONTINUE TO BLOW MY MIND!
Yes! 🐛🦇🦓🦓🐆🐅
I bought this record in late 1965, still have it and still play it now & then. I love the haunting melody and the whole concept of the lyrics. The 60s had so many great songs where all you wanted to do was lay back and quietly listen to every note of the melody and take in every emotion of the words, not like today's music where all you want to do is get up and dance. I love music that touches every emotion of my soul.
Rip Keith relf & jeff beck 2 legend's gone and now I'm sad this is a great sound track
Insane innovation from '65. Still brings chills
Groundbreaking! And it was our music when I was a teen. Was stunned at 13!
Still I´m sad because there´s no music as good as this!
"amethyst " by Low is IMO the equal of this brilliant track. IMO their best
Great song, but I prefer the Rainbow cover.
There was so much talent around in those days - Yardbirds were aming the best.
Founder member drummer Jim McCarty still plays for The Yardbirds. Jim is the heartbeat of the band. Love your playing Jim!
Yes but I wish Johnny A was still in the band
Why even pay attention to them now?
yes I agree, one of the best bands of the sixties. I never get tired of listening to their music.
Keith Relf what a great Haunting Voice and Still Iam Sad. Fantastic Blues Yardbirds.
I always come back to him musically. He was awesome
Denise O Yes he was just so sad and lonely but so beautiful and he always was Brilliant.
Denise O Big YES.
Yep....a great singer Keith was!
Haunting, melancholy, melodic; Still I'm Sad is all of these.
one of the most haunting records ever......
55yrs since it was released could have been yesterday it still sounds fantastic 🎶🎼🎵
How Jeff started and progressed to a icon! Long live Jeff!
Most peculiar song in rock history
Turn Into Earth was another weird song from the Jeff Beck era.
Then, all of sudden, every guitarist worth his name started playing with the volume knob until somebody came up with the volume pedal. Only Jeff knew how. Like only Keith Relf could sing so off-key and still get the screams. What a group that was!
I grew up with this music and the Animals.
1965 arguably the best year in the history of music in the modern era.
I found this song when I became 72 years old....and Love It!
Enjoy hearing this song. The Yardbirds with Beck and Page were the best years!
Don,t forget Keith Relf!
@@jgmdewilde8078
Definitely! Keith Relf formed the band and supplied the vocals. He had an amazing voice.
@@petrslivinski7481 ☝☝☝☝😀😀😀yes Keith Relf was an amazing singer.....and besides he was a very symphatic singer.....!
@@jgmdewilde8078
This is the first time I'm hearing someone say that Keith Relf was a sympathetic singer. Nicely worded I might add.
My favourite Yardbirds track of all. Caused a bit of controversy when it came out, with the Establishment accusing it of being based on a Gregorian chant. But I love it.
I remember that! Many things were scaring the crap out of them. They were reeling and we were in bliss every time we turned the radio on.
Carrie Berry Thank goodness someone else remembers that. I've been saying it for years and people have been looking at me as if I was barmy every time. The generation before ours thought everything we did was shocking. Goodness knows how they would have coped with punk groups and some of what goes on today!
Galericulus but Gregorian is so hauntingly beautiful. I didn’t think it was that much of an acquired taste to appreciate it.
i'm 70 , i was in love with this song when it was recorded on vinyl records , you are right ,it is totally different from their other songs and much better
It does sound like a Gregorian chant, what was so iffy about that?
Jeff Beck passed away yesterday (11.1.2023)
just about ever sixties band where better than what we have today................................it will live forever
Keith was in St Petersburg FLA Spring / summer in 1975. He was quite the character.
Love this band. To bad they lost their lead singer. There is new Yardbirds band that has had up to two original members. Amy who I love this band. Long live the Yardbirds!
l am 68 years l remember all music l love ,l love
yes Jim, this song is a tiny little bit older than me but had a big influence on my musical works between 1988 and 2023.this song brought me to work out my Indian ancestry. I still think it is one of the most remarkasble songs in history of rock
Simply Amazing to this day
ROCK ON!!
Dear Sir,
I hope you know the impact you and your pals had on millions...I would sit in my Dad's car for hours flipping channels waiting for I'm A Man to come on...I own approx 1000 LPS and CD's ...the first LP one I ever bought? Having A Raveup with the Yardbirds. Thank you Thank you Thank You....
See the stars come falling down from the sky
Gently passing they kiss your tears when you cry
See the wind come softly blow your hair from your face
See the rain hide away in disgrace
Still I'm sad
For myself my tears just fall into dust
Day will dry them night will find they are lost
Now I find the wind is blowing time into my heart
Let the rain fall for we are apart
How I'm sad
How I'm sad
Oh how I'm sad
Writer/s: JIM MCCARTY, PAUL SAMWELL-SMITH
the kids just weren't ready for this
Happy Birthday Paul Samwell-Smith born on May 8, 1943. He is an English musician and record producer. He was a founding member and the bassist of the 1960s English rock band the Yardbirds. He composed the Gregorian chant arrangements and lyrics of the songs "Still I'm Sad" and "Turn Into Earth". - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Samwell-Smith#The_Yardbirds
While looking up The Byrds, I got sidetracked to the Yardbirds and this classic. Gawd. I forgot how much I loved this song when I was a kid.
Absolutely fantastic, the yardbirds forerunners of Led Zeppelin
Imagine if The Yardbirds had done a version like the Rainbow cover....
It would have been epic since Jeff was better than Ritchie and even Ritchie says this
No he wasn't. Beck matured more in the last 30 years. Blackmore was absolutely untouchable in the 1970's. Beck during that time was heavily criticized for being very erratic live. One good three bad.
@@markgowansblackmore couldnt be matched in 76. Maybe Iommi could compete
Ápr. 19-e, s még mindig óriási hangerővel hallgatom!
@JimMcCartyandCo Jim, your band's music has had huge influence on my singing and harp playing all the way back to 60's, Keith's harp playing got me interested in harp and have been playing for over 40 years. your music has stood the test of time, and always will, just like Cream, The Who, and all the other British invasion groups who i grew up listening to. Your friend in music, Bluesman Ron Beretta Chicago, Il
This always floors me.
Wow...part of the singing reminds me of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".
Well spotted..yes first time I heard itall those years back..I thought the same...of course that was where the "ARE ARE ARE ARE" tune derived from..instead of singing "Are etc" add instead "In The Jungle etc"You will see what I mean.
YES original poster!!! That what I was thinking of last night!!! You nailed it! Almost a decade before me! :)
The Yardbirds had a unique sound compared to most Beat-Boom Groups/Bands that emerged during the 60's
RIP Jeff Beck - this song from Jan 1966 is rock musics very first GOTH number. It's the chorus of Benedictine Monks that really make it
October 1965
Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis Presley was the first goth record.
Although it's always crowded
You still can find some room
For broken hearted lovers
To cry there in their gloom
Be so, they'll be so lonely, baby
They get so lonely
They're so lonely, they could die
This was your masterpiece. older than myself (a little bit) but still got goosebumps listening to it.
48 YEARS OLD and this is friggin dope hell yaaaaaaaaaaa
Hay Stack try Rainbow' version with Dio on vocals (line version)
@@keelinmetaljam923 They're version from their Strangers in us all album is also great.

Magnificent !! That's singing well!! Thanks for sharing.
Played by ritchie blackmore's rainbow on stage 👍
Absolutely unique, they performed it to perfection. Yes, it was based on a Gregorian chant and reached quite high in the charts.
Még mindig imádom!
I'd never heard of this version .................... just found it after searching for the Boney-M version.
Superb!!! Love it!

Nie będę specjalnie oryginalny, ale tylko zwierzę się Wam :
to jest jeden z najlepszych utworów świata, w którym udało mi się żyć.
There's young Jeff, already thumbing and volume-swelling it!
Richie Blackmore's Rainbow cover of this song is amazing.

Very timely ty Yardbirds.
Conclusive evidence that Emos didn't invent angst.
Saddest song ever recorded, besides Kol Nidrei

Lepiej się nie zwierzaj - po prostu nie zabijaj ludzi!
this preceded The Herd ''From The Underground'' which sounded quite similar
The story of Orpheus's and Eurydice's escape from the Underworld. The Jam went Underground.
Jeff Beck is sooooo cool.
