This is what the '60's were all about. This song gives a beautiful lesson about judging people at face value before accepting their true worth as individuals. It also has some nice harmonies, beautiful bass line, and an excellent guitar solo. A great song.
I miss his vocals too. Fantastic song, and IMO his best performance. I remember reading in "Rolling Stone"a long time ago that Robert Plant was a much better singer than Relf--and I remember thinking, "Really? Is it just me who likes Keith's singing a LOT more?" Nice to come across this video and find people who agree with me!
The Yardbirds were and are one of a handful of groups whose work and influence is there for all time.Beck was and is a stellar guitarist who only had one equal and he had not landed at the time of this recording he was Jimi Hendrix. I still get the same buzz today listening to this as i did in March 1966 .great record great group.
Enjoy listening to The Yardbirds in the 60s and today. Their music never grows old just gets better with time. True classic music and times! Too bad the video isn't clearer.
This song is found among many Yardbirds videos on "Music Absolute Perfection Endless Aussie hits Rock and Roll" PLAY ALL and be immersed in rocka nd roll classics that are ternal. G"dam! I am the luckiest man on earth. I had the pleasure of living through this greatness! Was awesome times! Music was phenomenal . I loved it then and now! Born in 1957. Soooooooooo lucky!
Oh my God ! Thank you JimMc. From the comments, it seems that not too many realize the depth of this recording. This is a rare treasure I happened to stumble across. Thank you so very much for posting this !
I attended the 1968 Anderson Theater concert with my girl friend. Only last week I learned that there was a live concert recording and an album released. Great band, songs, and light years ahead of their contemporaries.
Don't be too anxious! ;-) As I said before, I'm dealing with different montages at the same time, so this will take a while! Just wanted you to realise that, although this channel is more aimed at Jim, I'm not forgetting about Keith either!...
thanks so much for the video. the yardbirds were & will always be my favorite band of all time. i have the audio to the lloyd thaxton show, but would love to see the video. it's awesome you are still performing and keeping the good music flowing!
If Jeff Beck had only this one solo to his credit,he'd still be considered one of the best ever! This solo was what it's about. You know about its, don't you?
What a precious treasure, steady energy, love those fills into the chorus, & through it, and amidst the insturmental, gently driving the solo, lovely captured memory in black & white & color filled sound, full of solid little trips. Fantastic feast for the eyes, ears, mind and heart, thank you so much for sharing such a treat! Peaxe!
I loved you guys back in the day. I still have your autograph, Jim, when you came to Detroit with the Yardbirds with Dick Clark, may he rest in peace. Sad about Keith so many years ago. I remember how he would always say "will do."
Yes when Page came into the band Dreja said he did things much more professionally...coming from the studio evironment where he would often work 12 hrs a day in teh studio start at 10am finish at 10pm...Page said he wasnt as gifted as many guitarists...but he was a phenomenal worker
Well, the thing is, I'm currently working on a special tribute to Keith! This will take some time though, as I'm also involved in other projects! But once it's done, I'll dedicate the montage to you! ;-)
Wow ! I played that song so many times the stack of pennys taped on top of my record player needle wore the vinyl out ...a great band...thanks for the post
You are absolutely right...Jimmy's solo in the live versions of "Immigrant Song" comes directly from this tune.He also uses licks from this in his "Over The Hills and Far Away" solo-all these are in F# and he uses these same licks everytime he plays in that keys.He used to play this Beck solo pretty close in his live versions with The Yardbirds.
For what it's worth Mr McCarty. I've got a original "Five Live Yardbirds LP. And it would be the highlight of this year for me if you could sign it. And while I'm at it. I've always thought The Yardbirds were the most underated of all the mid-60's British bands. Good Luck and God Bless.
I always liked this song. When I first heard it I thought it must be Fleetwood Mac from the Danny Kirwan/Bob Welsch era. Anyone else hear this? Maybe it's just me. Nice biting guitar break and just a well crafted song in general. Cool.
What a gem. I had no idea these rare Yardbirds appearances even existed . Yeah it’s staged but wow. So good to see the band and especially Jeff rip it up.
@endora60/ you are sooo correct,I think Plant has a good voice range etc but for pure vocal Essence it was and still is Keith Relf, very much underappreciated
For animal impersonations Mr Plant does,to be fair, take some beating, his farmyard pig squeels are second to none, but please, lets not have a debate about who the better singer is,when one just moans and does animal noises, then there is KEITH!who was one of us,any ordinary guy who everyone related to,
Jeff influenced me to play the guitar. You're A Better Man Than I was the first Yardbird song I taught myself to play back when I was in high school. I learned the rhythm, the bass, and with a lot of practice, the lead. This was lip synced to the original recording from the Having A Rave Up album.
Gosh, I had no idea you were putting all this neat stuff up. Thank you! (And this is the song that first made me a Yardbirds fan. I wonder why I never noticed the composer credit before.)
@captainsoul1953 Interesting you mentioning the beeb, they would keep all the harmless pop crap from bands like The Beatles,But anything with a bit of guts to it,would get shelved, erased or not played on air, which happened with Happenigs Ten Years Time Ago,this hardly got aired,as they(Beeb)couldnt understand it.
@amin1950 Thanks, I just can't listen to the bass and drums without thinking of McVie and Fleetwood...Which is to say excellent when combined with such a great melody and song that also has a truly great lead guitar break. This ones proof that the Yardbirds didn't even have to play fast and hard to still deliver the goods.
@ewanf Sorry for the late reply, I think Facebook is taking over, I'm afraid! ;-) This song was written by Mike Hugg, the drummer with Manfred Mann, and his brother...
+GeordieGroundwater This was released as a sngle as the B-side of "Shapes of Things." Niether song was on "Over Under Sideways Down" LP or even the later version of it (called "Roger the Eingineer") until decades later when added to CD as bonus trax.
"Amount of growth for the guitar"? "Impossible to replicate"? "Impressed by someone who can improvise with Jazz"? How old are you? You don't have a clue about what Rock&Roll is about, do you? My God, what is wrong with you people?!?
JimMcCartyandCo what a story the yardbirds were, in the near future you need to get a biography on this wonderful band you were in, very important part of rock history
While I don't know who owns this video, I understand that the recording is owned in Europe by Universal Music (which just absorbed EMI Records) and in America by Sony Music which owns Epic Records.

He’s quality but isn’t even on the same ballpark as Plant
@endora60/I 💯 agree 😊
bull shit, Keith blisters percy
Agree. Totally.
This was the beginning of guitar solos and eventually heavy metal................Thanks Jeff
Arguably the best of the three guitar legends that hailed from the Yardbirds.
I totally agree
The Yardbirds were and are one of a handful of groups whose work and influence is there for all time.Beck was and is a stellar guitarist who only had one equal and he had not landed at the time of this recording he was Jimi Hendrix. I like Beck Better
Nicely said!
yes, hendrix was sloppy
Composed by Mike & Brian Hugg. It is my favorite Yardbirds' song. Thank you for posting.
One of the great groups that got me through life and makes me glad I woke up this morning. Great channel. Thank you for sharing.
Enjoy listening to The Yardbirds in the 60s and today. Their music never grows old just gets better with time. True classic music and times! Too bad the video isn't clearer.
One of my top favorite Yardbirds songs !

I had this as a single (b side of Shapes of Things) we used to play the guitar solo at 33rpm - it’s good enough at 45 but at 33 it was awesome.
I like your way of thinking and how it would help learn Jeff's work/style!
Love this interactive impromptu style video of this great song! The drums and lead really give it The Yardbirds drama!
G"dam! I am the luckiest man on earth. I had the pleasure of living through this greatness! Was awesome times! Music was phenomenal . I loved it then and now! Born in 1957. Soooooooooo lucky!

Keith was such a good but very underrated slinger, r.i.p good gold boy
So glad I found this. Never heard it until now and it's already a favorite of mine.
Mark Taylor the new colony six did a version of this song
Keith Relf = Legend. Yardbirds = Legends
I love you Keith.
I love this song.
I love the Yardbirds.
Keith was an amazing singer and very influential in his time and for long after.
Saw them perform twice in 1967. Melbourne & Cocoa Beach, Florida...Indelible experience.
Hi Jim... Geez Jeff didn't look too happy..
I think that's one of best choruses in rock music. Hello from Russia!
This is one of The Yardbirds' best songs. Great clip. Thanks for posting yet another gem.
The lyrics are as good now as then. This clip is from Dick Clark's "Where The Action Is".
The begining of hard rock. The Yardbirds at the dawn of it all. Before Sabbath, and the rest. Amen !
extraordinaire !!!! Merci pour le post !!
you know I just love the classic Yardbirds lineup......awesome mid period work.....
thanks so much for the video. the yardbirds were & will always be my favorite band of all time. i have the audio to the lloyd thaxton show, but would love to see the video. it's awesome you are still performing and keeping the good music flowing!
That was aired in the States! ;-)
Have always liked this song. The words have meaning. Good music, too.
great clip, it is nice to see rare videos you don't see much of. great song, one of my favorite yardbird tunes. thanks for posting it.
You dont hear this alot like in the 70's , Im glad I find these gems....
Excellent song and a brilliant group!
If Jeff Beck had only this one solo to his credit,he'd still be considered one of the best ever! This solo was what it's about. You know about its, don't you?
I'm digging the bass.
@@darkarts59 dig the entirety of the tune, it is a classic, if overlooked, but a better song is hard to find.
What a precious treasure, steady energy, love those fills into the chorus, & through it, and amidst the insturmental, gently driving the solo, lovely captured memory in black & white & color filled sound, full of solid little trips. RIP Beckola. A true master. His solo here with the rhythm backing sounds like what Can ended up doing towards the end of the decade. Wow.
Yes when Page came into the band Dreja said he did things much more professionally...coming from the studio evironment where he would often work 12 hrs a day in teh studio start at 10am finish at 10pm...Page said he wasnt as gifted as many guitarists...but he was a phenomenal worker
great song
Wow! I haven't heard this song in decades! Great stuff.
Well, the thing is, I'm currently working on a special tribute to Keith! This will take some time though, as I'm also involved in other projects! But once it's done, I'll dedicate the montage to you! ;-)
Has to be one of the best songs of all time...really...
I love this song, because of its meaning
Thank you
Brilliant.
Wow ! I played that song so many times the stack of pennys taped on top of my record player needle wore the vinyl out ...a great band...thanks for the post
Proto Metal, IMO, I love the Yardbirds.
Luv
You love Keith in ALL the videos!!!!!!!! ;-D
Without Keith Relf The Yardbirds wouldn't have been around. Thanks to Keith for his vision and giving us a class act.
Wonder why The Manfreds didnt record this? One of my fave Yardbirds studio recordings,Keith on top form for this,I miss those vocals,
Manfred Mann Chapter III did a version of the song.
Thanks for your support, kid!... Wish I had more in store though!...
This is exactly what I love about 60s. Born in the wrong era....
Just sounds way ahead of it’s time.

Great solo Jeff. Early psychedelic lick
I always liked this song. When I first heard it I thought it must be Fleetwood Mac from the Danny Kirwan/Bob Welsch era. Anyone else hear this? Maybe it's just me. Nice biting guitar break and just a well crafted song in general. Cool.

Written by Mike Hugg from Manfred Mann
Can you imagine if you sent a Teenager in 1966 to England back in the day. They would be stunned. Very stylish but very blue collar.
Thanks for posting. 👍
Beyond their time...
Killer tune done Yardy style.
Hûh, That big disclaimer about a Yardbird song, while you are Jim McCarty, the Jim McCarty...!!!
Love the Birds and the song btw...
Social Media came about 30 - 40-ish years later.
How I hated social media.
@endora60/ you are sooo correct,I think Plant has a good voice range etc but for pure vocal Essence it was and still is Keith Relf, very much underappreciated
exactly
This was the first "emotional" solo I had heard at the time. Got into blues to find more!
Jim, a very nice upload, thank you. Been a YBs fan since the band originated. Thanks for all the great music. Hope you're well.
Never heard so distorted guitar in 1965 1:33
Sad how he died
Thanks for that
Best Wishes
Jim
JB playing with a pick, interesting!
He used a pick up until the mid 1980s.
ahhaha I actually never noticed it until I was told, I thought to myself what? and then oh...oh!! and then oh :( but then oh :). they both rock.
I miss Keith Relf.
It is the album version because you can hear that Beck does not stomp on the fuzz tone until the second note of the solo.
Yup. Funny you've noticed it. Now we're two.
I wonder if Dick Clark knew that Flat was actually the UK Equivalent of an Apt. Some of them were small but so stylish.
Minha música preferida deles.
Wow Rare Big time Love this tune ..........
RIP Mr Beck.

incredible......
Jeff Beck - rest in power!
Fix the volume on this the way it was yesterday .
Great lyrics!
YO TAMBIÉN

Great song, this looks like an interesting performance. I wonder if this aired in England or the US?
the last show with paul smewell smith / next hits page on bass
Covers: Los Thunder's ( El Salvador ) - Un lugar ideal ( 196? ). Los York's ( Perú ) - No te puedo encontrar ( spanish lyric: Walter Paz ) ( 1969 ).
The song was written by Manfred Mann drummer Mike Hugg and his brother Brian.
Looking further, it seems that Warner Music's Rhino Entertainment unit has The Yardbirds up to 1966 in America.

Fab video, I wonder if they were miming on the day - because for sure this recording is the studio version, as used on Roger the Engineer.

Side one of "Rave Up"=GODLIKE!
best album ever, no other side even comes close
