Did not know there was a recording of him playing Liszt’s TE No.10, that was awesome!!

This program, unique in its complexity, offers us a multifaceted portrait of Liszt. I was especially impressed with tragic La lugubre gondola. And also Nocturne (En reve) and Reminiscences de Norma. Thank you very much for the amazing video!

What a special recital! I believe this was the first time I've heard him play a transcendental etude!

…Supreme technician of the piano. Neither Art Tatum nor Horowitz could claim the hellbent-daring virtuosity of this pianist. It is insanely phenomenal.

Thanks for this upload, this was one of my favorite recitals to watch back in the day until it disappeared from RUclips and I was never able to find again.

Absolutely mind blowing. I feel it's Liszt playing himself those pieces, very few reached that ease of expression of Liszt music. Hamelin makes every other pianist feels like amateur. Such talent is scary, I'm literally hanted on those interpretation now. He's playing that like if it was children pieces

There's no boundaries between the music, the instrument and the pianist. Such feeling is undescribable

Fun watching this old video considering the incredible artist he has become. His insanely impressive technique gave way to some very unmusical and weird interpretations in this concert. Sometimes he sounds bored or that he just doesn't care about the music: that Liszt TE is hurried and weird. Don't tell me that he cares at all about what he's playing during that piece.
I'm coming from an academic background but still, that was bizarre. I think he was bored...

I don't know how he felt at the time, but I know that he doesn't really wish to play much liszt nowadays. I heard him play a benediction, but he said that he felt like he played the Transcendantal Etudes enough.

"Don't tell me that he cares at all about what he's playing during that piece."
Pretentious, preposterous bullsiht. Don't tell me you know anything about the care he was feeling at the time, as if he was going to piss away this recital leading off a series of 3.
Don't pretend your "critique" is anything but your subjective fantasy, and a perverse one at that, designed to get attention you couldn't get otherwise.
