      Playing the Scriabin cleanly is so hard. Each 2+-octave jump in a split second for the left hand is a risk of disaster. But hitting the right notes is so important when they're loud and lasting. MAH's studio recording of this Fantasie is my favourite.

He is currently provided analysis of Chopin's output in its entirety on his YT channel. I believe he won the Warsaw Chopin Competition in 2010, and performs the hell out of Chopin. He did a recent recital of the 4 Chopin Ballades he impeccably performed.

    Destaco o Noturno, Opus 63 n.6, de Faure, que me fez lembrar da excelsa pianista Magdalena Tagliaferro, que foi a pioneira em divulgar Faure em vários concertos seus, incluindo este Noturno em seus programas.

Practically speaking, I would never be able to afford a Fazioli, as such, I am saving to get a used Bosendorfer or Baldwin grand. Bosie's and Baldwin's touch and sound are my favorites and I personally prefer them over Steinway(overrated in my opinion).

These grand pianos are such a wonderful instruments (if kept in good condition). Especially the ones around 6ft/180cm in size are usually excellent. Their tone is almost always better than that of modern grand pianos of comparable size. You may want to check them out.

    Wow, he's really getting older. When I met him after a concert in 2018, he didn't look nearly as aged. But with an older age he seems to be becoming more and more musically sensitive, not just with how he executes pieces, but just looking at his more recent recital programs(this one included) they're more austere and don't seem to be filled with music that's just purely virtuosity(I.E. early Liszt or much of Alkan) I wonder how he now interprets the Alkan 4 ages of man Sonata, as someone whose approaching seniority. I think also Liszt's "Via Crucis" composition would be a great piece for him to learn and program on a recital such as this; it fits the general mood of these other pieces quite well.

      nice comment about his playing, only, allow me to object to "Wow, he is getting old" :) Unless it means "he is getting better and better", such a comment sounds a litle derogatory in our times ... we alwys need to think about the effect our words can have, and Mr Hamelin, although maybe he doesn't mind, would not be overwhelmingly happy to see this part of your post. When Johann Sebastian Bach died, his sons, especially Carl Philipp Emmanuel and Johann Christian, made the world forget his music when they invented the new way of composition later called the classicism. When Mozart said "Bach is the father of our music", he meant Carl and no one else (before his discovery of the elder Bach's music). Carl created the foremost and complete keyboard school of the time, and Mozart and Beethoven studied it. Nowadays Johann Sebastian Bach is the only widely known Bach. I'm thankful to Mr. Hamelin and Alexey Lubimov that they made me discover the music of C.P.E. Bach.

I'd experiment with partially closing the piano lid, reducing the gain on the microphone and adding more sound dampening materials (curtains etc.) to the room. Or moving the piano to a bigger room. Marc Andre Hamelin is a Cyborg Human machine with colorless piano sound! Dimitri Bashkirov her teacher Anastasia Virsaladze teach saying to Bashkirov the most important lesson is the love of beautiful colorful piano sound! This was already in 1930s! Really Shocking! More colorful beautiful piano sound than Hamelin=Emil Gilels Wilhelm Kempff Radu Lupu Artur Rubinstein Vladimir Ashkenazy Grigory Sokolov! More genius than Hamelin=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini Stanislav Bunin Maria Grinberg! More powerful louder than Hamelin=Mikhail Pletnev(Prokofiev piano concerto no 1 by Pletnev!) The Second Loudest ever was Lazar Berman! The 3rd Loudest was Erwin Nyiregyhazi! Young Horowitz his technique better than Hamelin's tehnique!!

    Bruh, I've never heard that Liszt tune. Did that thing just end on a 6-4 chord? (5th in the bass). Most interesting 🤔

    I'm impressed. I never enjoyed Hamelin earlier performances (even his Alkan). they sounded flat. but he seems to have matured, or maybe he just decided to play what he likes most, with great result!

    • @TomCL-vb6xc
      @TomCL-vb6xc 3 года назад +1

      @@meszian Not necessarily. One cannot deny the technical proficiency of Hamelin but some, like me, find a few of his interpretations rather flat and by-the-book. His pianism is accuracy itself, but sometimes a piece demands more. Take his performances of Scriabin’s fifth sonata - while they much closer to the written tempo and played with astonishing accuracy, they simply don’t convey the same level of mysticism as other performances. Even Scriabin himself rarely played his own music without allowing his rubato to deviate from the score.

      @EmdrGreg 3 года назад +8

      He's not in a high-tech recording studio. Fazioli is one of the finest pianos in the world, but each instrument is different. You have to take voicing into account as well. He must prefer the sound of his piano voiced this way, because that's the way he has it. If he thought the piano were awful he'd own something else, and he would certainly not upload a major effort like this on a piano he did not approve of.

    • @sebthi7890
      @sebthi7890 3 года назад

      is it the piano? the recording? The treble of the piano total shrill... and anyway modern pianos, Steinway, Fazioli etc. are constracted to be brilliant and loud. Lifestyle, Zeitgeist 👻
      A hundred years old Bechstein or Blüthner has more character and lovley sound.
