This is called a power trio. I spent 10 years as a bass player in a blues band backing a guitar play like SRV. When the guitar player, like SRV does his thing, it is up to the bass and drums to keep the song moving. Never competing. What a mess it would be to have drums and bass trying to compete with that. The job is providing the solid ground for the solo. Look at them. They watch and feel what he’s doing like a hawk. Add energy when needed, take it down when needed. You have to read the guitarist to make the song work. Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton were the best at this. Stevie knew this and is why he needed them.

You're gonna get huge lists of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and why not, he's only the most incredible blues guitarist in many decades. Take your time, there are tricks and just plain insantiy that the man could do that I've never seen by any other player ever. He's just fantastic, his band was just fantastic, and when you see Reese Wyman work 5 keyboards you'll know why. Enjoy enjoy enjoy...

His drummer Chris Layton and bass player are the best of the best. You had to be super tight to keep up with Stevie. Double Trouble is often overlooked bc of the absolute greatness of SRV.. Every song was different every time he played it and they were right there with him. Later on he would add the great Reese Wynans on keys and there is no better.

The entire Austin City Limits show from 1989 is astounding!
In addition to the excellent drummer (Chris Layton) and bassist (Tommy Shannon), your jaw will drop when you hear the keyboard player (Reese Wynans).
Songs I highly recommend from that 1989 Austin City Limits performance are:
    - Mary Had a Little Lamb
    - Voodoo Child
    - Couldn't Stand the Weather
    - Riviera Paradise
    - Cold Shot
    - Tightrope
    - Look at Little Sister (watch for the guitar string break and change-out without missing a beat).
From the 1985 Montreux Jazz Festival, check out his performance of Tin Pan Alley with legend and inspiration Johnny Copeland. It's a must-see for any SRV aficionado!
And, of course, any live performance of his cover of Jimi Hendrix's classic 1960's instrumental, Little Wing is a joy.
He was clearly an open channel through which greatness flowed. And please don't overlook the talent required of the entire band to complement someone who never does a song the same way twice.

Check out Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan "Look at Little Sister ". Jeff Healey is another guitar legend. He was blind, but you should watch him and Stevie Ray play the livin' shit outta some guitars. Not even kidding around. You will NOT believe your eyes. You'll be a better person once you've watched it. For real. Then, check out Stevie Ray Vaughan, doing anything. It's all good. You cannot miss with ANYTHING he ever did. He plays with his teeth in "Life Without You " at the Capitol Theater. He actually knocks out a tooth while he's playing with his teeth. He never misses a beat. Casually looks around on the floor for it, can't find it, looks over at his piano player and says "it's gone", laughs, and keeps right on playing and singing. He is a demi god here in Texas. We have a statue of him here. Again, listen to and watch everything you can find from him, whether you react to all of it or not. 👌💯

So glad to see you finally react to a Stevie Ray Vaughan performance! He is my favorite guitarist of all time! He was influenced greatly by the classic blues guitarists and also by Jimi Hendrix and a few others (including his older brother). He was only on the public scene for around 7 years before he died in a helicopter crash after playing his final show with Eric Clapton and several other great blues guitarists. He struggled greatly with cocaine and alcohol for several years before finally getting the help he needed in rehab and he had been completely clean and sober for around 4 years when he died. Just an FYI - Stevie never played the same song exactly the same way. Thanks for your great reaction!

Wherever you next start with Stevie Ray Vaughan. and the band Double Trouble, hold on to your hat for some incredible and charismatic performances. You'll see many sides of our SRV... his mastery of the guitar, his true love of the blues and inspiration from and respect for his musical peers and the greats who came before him, his expressive vocals, and his improvisational flow. You'll not just feel his soul connection, but discover the man behind the music... his authenticity, his humble heart, and his humor.
Any song he did, whether a cover or one of his originals, is definitely worth your time. I recommend live SRV performances because they add the powerful effect of his presence. You and your viewers will appreciate what he brings to any song. Don't miss these songs in particular: "Leave My Girl Alone" (Austin 1989), "Love Struck Baby"/"Rude Mood" (Daytona Beach 1985), "Look At Little Sister" (Austin 1989), Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up On Love," "Riviera Paradise," "Tin Pan Alley" with Johnny Copeland, "Pipeline" on a double neck guitar with his brother Jimmie Vaughan, Voodoo Chile" (Austin 1989, a Jimi Hendrix cover) "Dirty Pool" (Tornado Jam), "Oreo Cookie Blues" with Lonnie Mack (American Caravan), "Born Under A Bad Sign" with Albert King, "Life Without You" (Capitol Theater- a MUST!), "Couldn't Stand The Weather," "Mary Had A Little Lamb" (1989 Austin) with an awesome keyboard solo by Reese Wynans, "Going Down Slow" with Jeff Beck, the incredible mini-concert soundcheck with SRV in a leopard coat, "Superstition" (the clever official music video with a cameo by Stevie Wonder), the official music video "The House Is Rockin'," the official music video of "Cold Shot" (an utterly hilarious spoof about Stevie Ray's guitar obsession), ... and on and on and on! Welcome to Stevie Ray Vaughan!

Stevie cut an album with his brother Jimmy called Family Style and at the very beginning of the song "Hard to Be" Stevie says, "Roll, and I'll just feel something!". I think what he was referring to was his guitar solo in the middle of the song, that he'd just wing it, and I don't doubt it for a second. ruclips.net/video/xPG7_Bujk-w/видео.htmlfeature=shared

His ex wife was named Lenny (really Lenora, I believe), and she gave him a guitar as a gift when he didn't have that much money, and he named that guitar after her. He also wrote a song about her (also named Lenny) that you HAVE TO listen to.
I recommend the performance from the same concert as this (El Mocambo).
She apparently said once that Stevie used to sleep in the bed with a guitar in his hand, and she used to wake up seeing him play the guitar in his sleep. He was basically glued to his guitar. Now THAT's dedication! 🙂

👏🙌🎸🎶💙🔥💯. Whoosh‼️ that sound you hear is another reactor falling down the SRV 🐇🐇hole. Yeah for bringing Stevie Ray here today! 99% of his videos are not blocked but this is one of those exceptions. And not always so crazy algorithms RUclips. Inhumane is not a description that applies, I think the commenter meant not of this world, not human. He was otherworldly. Self taught from age 7 teaching himself by listening to all the blues OG's records and finding those notes on the guitar. He devoted every fiber of his being to expressing himself on that guitar which is why he just blew people away as it so obvious he and the guitar are one and inseparable. His band mates and best friends are stellar musicians but their job is to try and keep up and follow Stevie wherever he goes and keep him supported in the pocket. They watched him like a hawk as Stevie never knew where he was going until he strapped in and started playing. He was incapable of playing anything the same which makes his music always fresh and never repetitive. In 1985 they had a stellar keyboard player join them which added tremendously to the group. A million suggestions for you but to get a flavor of his various skill sets and ways of playing I suggest Tin Pan Alley from the Montreux Jazz Festival 1985 that features another Texas Bluesman Johnny Copeland. These two put on a master class in down and dirty blues.💙💙💙. Another is Riveria Paradise, a Stevie original, performed at Austin City Limits in 1989. He dedicates it to all those still suffering in any way. He created this after his own rehab and recovery after his hard won sobriety. It is musical balm for a weary spirit and is my favorite song🎸🎶. No filters required!
You are really going to enjoy this musical journey by an incredibly blessed supernatural musician✨⭐️🌟

Eddie Van Halen was the Stevie Ray Vaughn of rock. LOL I know Eddie came first but I consider SRV the better guitarist, regardless of genre.

So many great guitarists in this world, but FEW have played with swag like SRV... Jimi and Prince carry that swag also. Put those three on the stage with anybody and they will probably be left standing when it's all over.

Stevie Ray was a guitar magician. I saw him before he became super famous and the whole concert was mind blowing from start to finish. An hour and a half of barely believing what I was hearing and seeing. I bought my first guitar the day after seeing him. I wound up taking the guitar serious, got into classical guitar and got fairly accomplished at it. You should check out some classical guitar. "Leyenda' performed by John Williams will blow your mind.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was born in Dallas Texas on October 3,1954, he has a brother 3 yrs older then him named Jimmie Vaughan who is a great guitarist In his own right and had a band called The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Jimmie got an electric guitar that Stevie loved and would mess with it while Jimmie was gone, on Stevie Ray's 7th birthday he got a toy guitar with cowboys and Indians on it but even though it was a toy he learned how to play Wine Wine Wine and Thunderbird by The Night Caps (on a toy). Stevie never learned to read music so he said he played from the heart and he never used a play list because he said he never knew what or how he was going to play until he got on stage so he never played one song the same when he performed. At the age of 10 Stevie joined a band called The Chantones so Jimmie gave Stevie his electric guitar for his first gig at a roller rink in Dallas. Stevie Ray not only plays behind his back he also plays behind his head, backwards, tune his guitar while playing, with a broken string, switch guitar in the middle of a solo and never missed a beat, one hand, no hands just by moving the guitar up and down side to side, adjust his AMP'S while playing with one hand, played with his teeth and even used his elbow. Stevie's career only span 7 yrs starting with the release of his album Texas Flood on June 13,1983 and won so many awards and was one of the most asked for artists. On December 13 1983 Austin City Limits video was voted Guitar Player Magazine's Best New Talent, Best Electric Blues Guitar Player and Best Guitar Album with Texas Flood he and Jeff Beck are the only 2 Triple award guitarist ever. On November 18,1984 Stevie won a W.C.Handy National Blues Award, Entertainer Of The Year and Instermental Of The Year he was the first white man to win either. In 1982 he was the first musician to be inducted into The Austin Music Hall Of, in 2000 he was inducted into The Blues Hall Of Fame and in 2015 he was inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. On August 26, 1990 Stevie went to East Troy Wisconsin to open 2 shows for Eric Clapton along with Robert Clay, Buddy Guy and his brother Jimmie Vaughan at the Alpine Valley Music Theater, both shows sold out to 40,000 fans. Stevie came down from his hotel room and told Jimmie and the guys he had a weird dream that he died and he was looking down at all these people crying although it was weird he felt at peace. After Eric Clapton finish out the last show Stevie, Buddy Guy, Robert Clay and Jimmie performed Sweet Home Chicago by Robert Johnson Stevie boarded a helicopter that crashed into the side of a mountain right after takeoff and everyone on board were killed instantly, the pilot had just failed his test on using the gages for that helicopter and he never flew that helicopter and he never flew at night. Imo STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT.

Stevie didn't use set lists. whatever he felt like playing next he did. Stevie starts every song with his guitar. the drummer and the bassist have to jump in right after the starts playing. 'Stevie also solos sometimes, (more like an extended version). But he will work back into the grove and then resume the song. The had to be consistent all the time. Never heard a drum or bass solo ever in any of their songs.

It's been said that Stevie makes non-guitarists want to pick up the instrument and guitarists want to throw theirs down.
His voice has been described as honeyed gravel.
I consider Stevie the GOAT and this particular performance the greatest use of a guitar I have ever heard in 58 years of life.
Strongest recommendation to react to his cover of Hendrix's Little Wing from this same show, Live at El Mocambo. The whole Mocambo show is absolute fire and you really can't go wrong with any song from that show.

Double trouble is the scaffold on which SRV gets to play. Trust me, Chris Latham on drums and Tommy Shannon on bass are nearly as gifted as Stevie, but their job is not to wow anyone, but be the bedrock of the song.

Almost all blues music is a series of improvisational phrases and scales based over a formulaic routine rhythm section. Stevie became sober 2 years later, but one hour before this show, he was being revived by medical personnel for being in a cocaine induced coma. IV fluids and vitamins led him to the stage, hence the xtra xtra notes and sweat.
