If the people of today could only witness a champion like this.

Round Table's story is one of the most intriguing and it goes back through the lead-up to WWII. His is what is called a "classic" pedigree. His daddy was one of the best stayers ever, Princequillo. His grandaddy, Prince Rose won 16 out of 17 races in Belgium and was a national treasure, but because of the war, he was shuttled around to find a safe haven for him. This story reads like a novel....great profiles are at Spiletta and also at reines-de-course.

Well that was interesting. I'd never heard of him. But I was 9 in 1958, so I guess that's why. Anyway, good horse! Wonderful to see him, and learn something. Thanks.

Round Table was a hickory racehorse. He was very versatile, winning on dirt and turf. He was also a very good sire. His name in pedigrees speaks of substance.

Aw!! This is my horses granddad. My boy wasn't much of a racer (only got 3rd twice), but he's a great hunter jumper now :)

Round Table, my first love! My dad used to take me out of school to head for the races in Southern California. It didn't take long for me to figure who was King of the Hill. Yet, Shoemaker would always favor Gallant Man over Round Table, and I don't think I ever saw Round Table beat Gallant Man. Man, those were the days of some great racing heros.

@DL261 When Shoemaker was on, nobody could touch him. Unfortunately, he liked to drink a little too much and later in his career, those "on" days were fewer and fewer. But what a magnificent sense of pace he had!

cf1970,do you by chance have anything on his rivals Bold Ruler and Gallant Man? That would be wonderful if you do,I feel people should see on video all of these top class horses.

I love Round Table, he was a wonderful story from start to finish. Those old meanies would pile on more weight and he would go out and break another record.haha:) He was extraordinary, no doubt about it. This clip is great CF but are there no races of his on here? I can't find any. Thanks for all you do for us fans:)

I think it should be against the law to assign a race horse more than 130 pounds. At some point, simple superiority should be allowed to have its way, unencumbered by man-made handicaps.
