OoooK friend here comes the “REAL TALK” …I worked for 5 years (before switching to cosmetology) as a leasing agent at an apartment complex…people would ask if we had problems with bugs (because nobody wants to move their clean things into a bug infested place) and I would give them the professional answer “sometimes people do, but we have a pest control guy on property and he goes in rotation to every floor every week so if you see anything we can send him to you” THAT translates into “YES we have a BIG problem otherwise why keep a pest control guy on call! And you WILL need him” - professional pest control is a huge expense for apartment communities so they don’t keep them on rotation unless the problem is BIG. If you want to see some change keep spraying but also make sure your neighbors are spraying too and keep the trash out of the apartment and not outside their door ask your neighbors to do the same if you see them keep trash by their door. It looks like you live on the top floor so that’s a plus because the middle floor and bottom floor are always worse … if your next door neighbors are infested it will be near impossible to get rid of them completely. If the roaches are “babies” then the problems is BIG and somebody is not spraying. Become friends with pest control person and ask for the tea lol cos it’s not just because it’s “the south” its because there are yucky people. I wish you the best 💛💛💛 and when you move to your next place (because don’t stay there once your lease is done, the problem will not stop ever it will just be under “control”hence ”pest CONTROL”) BUG BOMB before you move otherwise you will take them with you in your electronics. I’m sorry this is happen to you 😕 I wish I had a positive thing to tell you but this is the Real Talk 😔

Do you have any tips for figuring out of there's a pest problem prior to signing a lease? Hey Sam! I’m a hairstylist that follows you from originally md I’ve been in south fl for 10 yrs now. My first 6 months was… not easy. Don’t want to expose you to what happened to me lol. Down here is a special way of life so let me tell you the extremes we have to go to in soflo that might help you.
    1. No paper linings or sticky linings in your cabinets they like, that just like the grease in a hinge.
    2. Don’t let your ac ever be a not #1 priority when there’s water involved for so many reasons.
    3. They love water and coffee. So plug your drains and seal up your coffee makers and keep them as clean as you can. It makes it easier to put everything in a sealable bag or container so they’re not attracted to any of your food because…
    4. Girl get rid of the cardboard in your house. In the south they LIVE for it. Esp perforated cardboard! So they could’ve been delivered to you.
You will nip this and keep this going faster and longer!
Another tip… find out where they’re coming in for sure and cock every plumbing out/input pipe you can or they can do it. Esp around the toilet bottom and sinks
It will get better I promise! Just don’t keep cardboard in your house please!🙏🏻💜

I moved back to NC after being in WA for a year and I WAS SO ANXIOUS JUST THINKING ABOUT BUGS!!! Biggest tip I’ve found is that I buy food grade diatomaceous earth and put them in condiment cups with a small opening in the lid and leave them in the back of my cabinets plus under my fridge and coffee/bar cart. Kills any bugs hiding in the cabinets or under the fridge 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 that plus the exterminators and you’ll be good.

    1. Put EVERYTHING (salt, sugar, cereal, rice, ....) into containers that can be sealed (Do you still know Tupperware - something like that).
    2. Don't use chemicals yourself. Leave it to the professonal. Otherwise they might get resistant to the stuff.
    3. Don't leave anything out and your flatt too warm.

So once the exterminator finished caring for the current bugs you should be okay! You could use those photos on the same wall as your dresser and then get one large piece for over your bed. You could also stager them off to one side, near your closet - depending on the size of the art you get for over your bed. OR! You seem to have really tall ceilings in the kitchen, they would probably look really cute over the cabinets!
Also, I’m so sorry about the bugs! I know exactly how you feel! When my partner & I bought our house we found it was infested with ants. We tried to get it under control ourselves, while we waited a few weeks to get an exterminator out, and it was a nightmare. We couldn’t keep any food in the house or garage because they kept getting into it. Literally THOUSANDS of ants all over the house, but the worst in the kitchen cabinets. I felt like my skin was crawling. The exterminator finally came and it took two treatments to get rid of them. THEN we had a spider problem two months later. AND THEN we found rats in the garage. It got to a point where I looked at my partner and was like, “what if we trigger the clause with our realtor?” She has a guaranteed happiness with purchase clause where they’re buy our home back from us, for what we paid, and help find us a new home. Which is a long way of saying, your feelings are valid and you’re allowed to feel them!

Awww man I totally empathize. There is something about pests in your home that just does something. Totally anxiety inducing. I live in the pacific northwest so pests are a little different. I dealt with silver fish. They are completely harmless and not attracted to food, but they are soooo creepy and gross. I came to the realization that no matter how hard I tried to eliminate them its a multi unit building and it was impossible. Best I could do was manage the issue through mainly what everyone has mentioned. Good luck. I really hope you can completely eliminate them, but if not the situation can be managed and you can go long periods without encountering them.

Hi Sam! Sorry you’re experiencing that! I don’t think you’re overreacting at all, I can’t stand roaches. Not sure if you know, but roaches are attracted to cardboard. So I would try to maybe replace any remaining moving boxes with plastic bins instead and any food that comes in a cardboard box I would transfer to plastic or glass storage containers. It sucks that you’ve experienced this!! After living in several places over the years, I’ve learned that pests are sometimes unavoidable. No matter how clean your home is.
My husband and I live right next to a wooded area, and we occasionally get field mice. Like one at least every year or so. I hate it - but they do like to hang in the woods. Best we can do is keep everything clean, and every now and then, we put peppermint essential oil around our home. Primarily the kitchen. Mice (and other pests!) hate peppermint essential oil. I’d put some around your cabinets, on cotton pads to soak up the oil. Be sure to keep out of reach of your pup, as essential oils can sometimes peak a dog’s interest.
Glad your complex is good at responding to the issue 😊 Our landlord helped me trap a mouse one day..when I was home alone and too scared to do it myself. Mice freak me out, even though they are kind of cute. Just don’t want them in my living space!

This is not going to go away for you especially when the management has a exterminator going every Monday! Yikes that should be a red flag for you. Especially if the complex has many units most likely your neighbors are not keeping their apartments or pets clean and not removing their trash on a daily basis. You need Boric acid it's a powder that will kill them... sprays will not get rid of the problem. Im in NJ and it was a deal breaker for me... roaches have to be the most filthy insect ever...stay positive and like I said if after using the boric acid you still see them..it's time to pack up sweetie take care wishing u the best luck with everything. ❤️

Here in Arizona I think adding glue boards near doors and pantry’s is a must. We get scorpions and roaches occasionally. Glue boards catch anything that creeps along the floor. You can get a giant pack of them on Amazon I don’t see why you couldn’t put some in your cabinets and anywhere you keep food just as an extra precaution.
For the time being you can transfer your snacks into airtight containers instead of just putting bags and boxes of food in cupboards.

I've been reading a lot of the comments and much of what everyone is saying is 💯. The biggest tip is if your neighbors below, above and beside are not getting weekly pest control service then that problem will remain. Get some bug chalk, raid baits, and boric acid bug powder. I know you will protect Bennie from it so I suggest these highly. Use storage containers for ALL opened items. Use grocery store bags for food trash and place in a bigger trash bag that you close until you take the trash out. Clean your garbage disposal regularly and put lemons in it weekly. Starve them suckers!! Make your apartment unwelcoming. I went through this when I lived on a lake and the waterbugs were really disrespectful. If this issue continues or gets out of hand, don't renew your lease. I am cheering for you to beat this. Oh and you're right, it's not a terrible issue because none of us have seen one in any video so like you said it could be worse.

They hate it it drives them away. Then you have to buy boric acid and sprinkle it every where Benny can't get too.along the shelves on top of shelves in closets under cabinet. And tell the manager you have to have spray every week. Also don't let them live. You have to kill them when you see them. Cause if you don't they multiply. This absolutely works. When the lady came to my apartment she said how come you don't have them and I do. And I showed her. I know how you feel. You kind of feel invaded. But this works try it. 😊

Hey Sam! So I live in Ohio, but have dealt with bugs and it is terrible. I will say from the experience my family has had with the treatments, the exterminator will almost always need to do more than one treatment. It's not uncommon to see a few sickly critters straggling in after the first spray. Definitely have them come back and keep up what you're doing, it can be fixed. I hope this helps. 💖💕

I'm sorry to hear about the roaches, girl. Like someone else mentioned...they do not go away because of the neighbors. When I signed my lease they had mentioned that they sprayed the unit.... twice. TWICE. We saw them literally the first week when there was minimal furniture in the unit. I would recommend "Combat Roach Killing Bait Station." This really helped us a lot. We would put it in high places because we have pets. We rarely see them now. They'll hide under the fridge and the stove as well because those are warm spaces. If you take food or sugary drinks anywhere beside the kitchen THEY WILL SPREAD. Be careful :(

I live in East TN. The only issue I've ever had are ants. I usually get some ant traps, my cats leave them alone, and the ants are gone like in a couple days. It's not too bad as long as you keep treating everything properly.

Hey girl I also moved down here to NC two years ago and my apartment has had so many cockroaches, big and small. My apartment complex refuses to do anything about it when I complain and tells me that “they’re native here” so it’s normal. Lately I’ve been seeing them come in groups, one after the other regardless of how sanitary my apartment is kept. It’s very distressful and uncomfortable. I’m glad that you’re in a situation where you’re being taken care of and validated. 🖤 you are not alone!

First of all, you are NOT over reacting! I live in the Midwest, and recently broke a lease to my apartment. There was a store by my house that sold exterminator grade roach spray. I tried bait and bug spray and for awhile they were gone, and then one day I came home and my cat left 2 pieces of kibble left from her microchip feeder and there were MULTIPLE baby roaches. I kept all my kitchen goods in plastic bins (because roaches like the starch that hold cardboard boxes together) until I broke my lease and moved out. They started to migrate from my kitchen around my whole apartment within 4 months. BTW the food grade diatomaceous earth worked wonders and is SAFE for pets. But in my experience if there's one then there's A LOT more and I can't live in a place with roaches lol... I wish you all the luck! I hope you get through this, it seems like you're trying to be positive and that's all we can do in these situations. 💕

Hey, I live in North Carolina (and have been in many different apartments and townhomes) bugs aren’t that much of a problem, usually what i find is that if the place is much older bugs can get in easier, like through cracks and crevices. I think it all depends on the apartment also, so if you still have a big bug problem even after getting it sprayed down :/ it might just be the place. I’m enjoying these vlogs a lot also 🥰

I’m terrified of bugs so I had to watch this video in two parts (lol)! Reminds me of when I first moved out of home at 21 and was living alone. I decided to move to the opposite side of the city and in the middle of the bush with only one road in and out. It was totally isolated but beautiful. Unfortunately living in the bush meant there were constantly bugs in my place and often they were exotic bugs I couldn’t even identify. I definitely had some crisis moments where I didn’t feel safe in my place and would call my family crying 😂 Like that time there was a bright orange spider the size of my hand... I totally freaked. But these moments pass and it sounds like you are very on top of things. You will get through this!! Keep getting the place sprayed and if you can, buy some boric acid powder and sprinkle a little bit around your kitchen. A friend of mine who lives in a bush area told me it’s really effective.

I know what helped me when I moved into my house was getting a trash can with an automatic closing lid. Nine Star makes great ones, and it has a tighter seal on top and helps keep odors inside the can. I noticed a major difference as I have had small problems with roaches and ants a few times year. Make sure any small cracks are sealed off, and like others mentioned you can get indoor bug spray to spray near doors, etc. I still paid an exterminator last year and this year to come out for some small ant issues I had, but the other stuff helped a lot!

I have lived in NC my whole life and this is so normal. The bugs (especially the “water bugs” which are the big roaches) are bad, but I feel like they are worse in the summer. Even the cleanest of houses get them, especially if you live close to woods or water. Or if you live in a building with parking lots that have the big open drains under the sidewalks for water to drain out of the lot because they live in there and will come out and be most active at night, according to our pest control tech at the property that I manage. And also in an apartment building surrounded by many other apartments, if your neighbor is gross and has roaches, you are likely to get them even if you’re the cleanest person ever. At the property that I manage, we also offer free weekly pest control - definitely a perk coming from someone who owns their own home and has to pay for it. 😂

    • @styledbysamvay

    • @brittanydraper8384
      @brittanydraper8384 2 года назад

@@styledbysamvay of course! I have seen some comments that are saying if your community offers free pest control that means there is a huge pest issue. That isn’t necessarily trueI - as landlords, you have little control over how your residents choose to live inside their home but also other residents shouldn’t have to suffer the expense of paying for their own pest control because of pests that are not their fault. So a property management team that is responsible will bear the expense of providing a pest control service should you need it. In areas with the climate we have here, preventative pest control is a must no matter what.

*PRO TIP*: One thing I'm really careful about is any boxes that come into my home (Amazon deliveries, UPS, Care packages, etc.) I try to open and empty, then get out of my house ASAP because they can easily bring bugs/roaches/eggs from wherever they were and then infest my home! Hi, I have lived in apartments for over 10 years, and I have had this problem everytime I move, just go to your local pest control store usually all state have it is super simple to do it by your self and is not spray what they sell in there is like a syringe full of this chemical that this bugs are atracted to, and sometimes because you live in apartments your neighbor may have them is super simple for the cockroach to move to your unit.

Use raid roach houses in your cabinets and under your stove but of course just keep your cabinets closed so Benny doesn’t get them but trust me that’s going to get rid of them I would also get a sink strainer to prevent them from coming in from your water pipes. This happens when you live in apartments no matter how clean you are people around you might not be and those bugs will come in to your apartment however they can
