I wonder if he could preserve his voice better if he took vocal lessons. That said, he absolutely slayed his part on In Cauda Venenum, his clean vocals are at the peak now.
@Rritobak Dutta he did it for 20 yrs+ not really a quick burner. He blames new in ear mics and stuff for his lack luster growls lately ..cant hear himself etc. I love his cleans though so its fine not really complaining
Especially considering they had been touring non-stop since Deliverance and getting really into the groove of their songs from all those hours of playing music.
@@raz0rcarich99 I'd argue that pretty much anything from June 2003 until Lopez's last gig (July 2005) is equally good. There were some great performances from late 2001 onwards to late 2005 / early 2006 too.

Holy cow I was at this show! I am the person up at the very front with the long hair who keeps throwing up the devil horns. I was standing right in front of the bassplayer 2 people deep. This was my first Opeth show and it blew my mind! My cousin had an extra ticket and asked me if I wanted to go. This is blowing my mind and has brought back a rush of memories I totally forgot about!
I know everyone is talking about Mikael’s growls and whatnot, which I love, BUT! Martin Lopez playing this shit bumped up a few BPM’s faster is fucking impressive!!!
@@TheFbiFilesRepeat I wish! I was at their shows around this time, but not this particular one. But I can say that out of the hundreds and hundreds of unreleased live Opeth recordings in my collection, this one really stands out.
This was Opeth as i grew up with them. Still think their two first album was the best. All respect for that they wanted to evolve but for me this was it.
I saw this tour in Charlotte, NC a week before this show. It was my 16th birthday and I was completely obsessed with Opeth at the time. I'll never forget it. Thanks so much for this footage - would love to see more from this show!
Everything just clicked - you can practically feel the band's adrenaline. It set the mood for the rest of the show, which was great before but phenomenal from this point onwards.
Hey! You see, Aphil Ethereal's solo is performed by Mikael! But in the RAH performance it is Fredrik who does the solo... I wonder if there is a possibility for Mikael to continue transferring his solos to Fredrik...
Frederick plays solos. Mikael plays solos. Both of them are Lead Guitar and Rhythm Guitar. Both of them are main guitarist. Its a thing to other bands. Even when Petr is still around its the same. Its just that Mikael plays lot more solos in order for Fred/Petr to play an acoustic part. The Acoustic parts are tricky and impossible to sing to while playing it, plus turning on the effect is a drag too.
@@daghetto101 Yes, I am aware of that! By the way, there's a video from that same channel where they play the song "THE MOOR" and Mikael plays the acoustic part and sings at the same time, which is extremely complicated. However, at the Royal Albert Hall and from then onwards, acoustic fingering was done on the keyboard, while he just sang.
@@Lvcifvge This band is just amazing. They really wanted that acoustic parts on their songs. Playing both Lead & Rhythm for both guitarist (of course Mikael while singing). Guys doing both solos. Damn this band is so good. I guess Mikael was like "hey bruv you dont sing, might as well do the acoustics too, its fine i do some solos to balance it out for ye" LMAO. Hiring a Keyboardist made things easier and even sounds more unique lol
The black metal influences here are pretty prominent and on the other tracks on the album. I don't understand why people keep turning a blind eye to it. This sounds more like Prog Black to me than Prog Death.

I think Mike played the bass on MAYH, right? So unless Mendez is improvising and enhancing the bass lines, I'd say he did a pretty darned great job on bass for a 'backup' option until Mendez arrived.
@@Dhelira Tbh, it might have to do with overall band decisions and other stuff (aging as well, I suppose) but I think I was referring to the fact that nowdays most of the time they play old songs slower and with keyboard arrangements, both things that in my opinion kill the agression, where it is needed.

I'd pay any amount of money to see this lineup perform live like this.

Snare of heaven
The vocals
The drums
Mendez side to side headbanging
