Johnny, I implore you, I beseech, when the story is over, clear the prison. The game doesn't direct you there at all, it's only us completionists that bother, but it's really important
In a similar vein, definitely check out the Valhalla dlc as well (after the ending, obviously). I feel like it was marketed as just a roguelite fighting focused mode, but it has a great (and pretty important) story arc to it.
Ah yes, when the game makes me cry three times in the first 20 minutes 😭 To be fair, I'm still raw from playing through Still Wakes The Deep in one sitting today 😂
I absolutely love the portrayal of Odin here, and it felt fresh but also weirdly familiar? Then it hit me - Schiff isn't playing Odin as a God, not really. He's playing him as a mob boss, and the Aesir is his crime family. And it's such a clever way to handle the Norse gods and all their flaws and deception that it really draws me in, I can't wait to see where it goes (and on that note, really looking forward to this series Johnny!)
As a fan with what I think is similar levels of appreciation for The West Wing as yourself I'm so glad your reaction to Richard Schiff was the same as mine - I'd managed to avoid spoilers for a whole year before I played this last November (well, I knew Richard Schiff was in the game due to Tweeter, just didn't know who he was playing) so I had an almost identical giddy vibe when I streamed this with my pals on Discord!! ...none of them having watched the West Wing my energy was lost on them so I feel like your reaction has made up for all of their lack of one 😂. So glad you're playing this, God of War (2018) is probably the best game I've ever played and I feel this was a worthy sequel so I hope you have as much fun with it as I did - looking forward to the rest of the series!
Atreus: "Inaction is also a risk!" Me, an auditor who is constantly trying to persuade people to actually *do things* to minimise their risks: "Yes! Exactly! Thank you!"
One thing no one talks about is the fact that the "fates" of Greece actually messed with the "timelines" of ppl while the "fates" of Norse mythology only watch the "timelines" like they are silent movies.
The West Wing being one of my favorite shows of all time (I wish Bartlet was a real politician) I had the same reaction upon seeing Odin. Admittedly, I could not remember Richard Schiff’s name, so I actually said, “Holy shit! It’s Toby!”
Johnny, I am SO delighted you are playing this game. It is good. i won't say more because I am TERRIBLE at gauging what is and isnt' a spoiler; I'm just going to say it's an emotional ride, so hang on tight.
Kratos' wife was a giant so she has more pouches to fill. Perhaps he keeps a part of he with him. Hmmm. Interesting. Fenrir was actually the son of loki in mythology but he is a tiny bit bigger in mythology.
See, I would know Richard Schiff anywhere because I LOVE him. West Wing included obviously. So when you said it WASN'T Richard Schiff I nearly had a stroke. I had to look it up and the world is right again, it is indeed Richard Schiff.
came into this expecting bad parenting and cinematic head stomping, so far there has been far better parenting (as compared to the last game), emotional damage, and far less cinematic head stomping than i expected
In the vein of GoW: Ragnarok, have you seen the Norwegian series "Ragnarok". Incredible cast and writing (IMO). It's 3 seasons of 6-8 episodes each IIRC and I simply cannot recommend it enough.
When I knew Johnny was playing this I had to rush out and get it. I normally wait until games are cheaper then when they first come out and I'm happy to say I've finished and platinumed this game at the right time as Johnny starts their playthrough. Super excited for this! 😊
So glad Johnny is playing this! After Sony's colossal tomfuckery surrounding anything PC related, I noped out from buying it. Can't wait to follow you!

'I guess you could say it's a "Thor Spot"' gave me massive Ellen vibes. Think she's been rubbing off on you Johnny
The reaction to the look-up of the Odin casting... fantastic

Really, really! ⬆️⬆️⬆️

@@fett01 i got the platinum for god of war ragnarock but I can’t remember the prison:( where was it - would I have done it during the platinum?
WHO IS READY FOR EMOTIONAL DAMAGE?!
I’m so excited for you to experience this game. Its so good 😭
Nothing was more startling for me than when Mimir's accent slipped a little and I realized I was listening to Celebrimbor. Loved that bit lol
watching this after marathoning johnny's god of war playthrough has made the atreus voice drop so pronounced.
Dashing through the snow, on a wolf drawn two god sleigh
Superb
Wow, I forgot what a gut punch this intro is

Was not expecting Odin to be so casual, but I love it 😂
Good news Johnny Odin was indeed Richard Schiff from the west wing!
Yup, not sure where you read it was someone else. But it's absolutely him. And he's phenomenal in the role.
@@JWest8606 I think they were reading the cast list for Marvel's Thor Ragnarock on accident.😁

I wasn't prepared for dog sadness
I for one approve of the new, if temporary, holding screen.
Man, that scene sure hits different after losing a pet myself last year. I thought I was ready, but I certainly wasn't.
Even I think Freya needs to come down off the ledge, but hey, what are you gonna do? 😂😂

It's actually Richard Schiff?! I love him, too! The West Wing is my favorite show ever and a huge comfort watch for me.
The beginning of this game pulled zero punches, and I do not appreciate 😭😭😭

15 minutes in and I am absolutely sobbing
This game was just so damn good. I am excited for you to experience it, Johnny.
"I wasn't ready to feel feelings this early."
Oh Johnny... This game is only feelings, buddy
I blew through the last series to prepare for this. Can recommend.
I very much like the choice by Sony Santa Monica to portray the Aesir like mafiosos.
HURRAY!!!
I just finished rewatching the GOW let’s play and was hoping he’d do Ragnarök too. 😊
Be honest Freya... You're not *completely* happy are you?

Johnny have you read the iron Druid chronicles I think you would really enjoy it
Is it just me, or was the game audio all over the place? Especially during the horse lady fight.

Odin sacrificed his eye to gain knowledge in norse mythology, no mischief from Loki involved
@@bearableplant7222 He also sacrificed himself to himself for knowledge. Odd bloke
It might be a variation of the myth or an adaptation I'm thinking of. But still, calling it now, mysterious golf ball is Odin's eye
