  • Dustin Kensrue performing an incredibly powerful acoustic version of Thrice's "Words in the Water"
    Lyrics
Standing knee-deep in cold water, swiftly moving
Somehow I knew I lost something
Waiting waist-deep I saw a book there, in the river
Waiting for me to find it there
I tried to read it, neck deep, treading water
The tide pulled me out to sea
Then with water in my eyes
The words began to rise from their place
    They were beautiful and dread
I reached for them and fed on each phrase
They were honey on my lips
Then a bitter twist in my side
I knew they'd lay me in my grave
"Is there no one who could save me? " I cried
Sinking down deep through cold water and heavy silence
    Shadows stirring in the gloom
What things lay sleeping down deep in the darkness?
Woke then to find me in my tomb
Then with water in my eyes
The words began to rise from their place
    They were beautiful and dread
I reached for them and fed on each phrase
They were honey on my lips
Then a bitter twist in my side
I knew they'd lay me in my grave
"Is there no one who could save me? " I cried
And when I lost all hope to look
Someone took that heavy book from my hands
All it's weight they set aside
After they had satisfied it's demands
I felt white and black reverse
And the lifting of a curse from my heart
    Then like one receiving sight
I beheld a brilliant light in the dark

@@chadpeacock2064 I have been listening to them since the better days albums, I grew up sneaking out of my house to see them play at chain reaction before they were famous. To hear his voice mature of that time, is nothing less than incredible. Him and thrice are truly a gift.

Jesus Dustin. You seriously have probably the most powerful voice I've ever heard in my entire life. On top of being the greatest lyricist I've ever heard.
They should study you for thousands of years to come in music classes.

I’m Christian, yeah. But I cannot stand worship music. The lyrics, even though they have good meaning and intent to it, they sound boring and lazy, just like the instrumentals. This song on the other hand, you can tell it comes from someone who had lost his/her way in life and is seeking for help. And when you least expected it, God was there. This is the kind of music that I would love to hear in a church, the kind that shamelessly tells me that it’s pretty normal to lose our way in life every now and then, but there’s someone that no matter what you do, will always have your back.
This song has the power to move me, and it makes me feel like a genuine Christian human being.
