An interesting place to see, but... I wouldn't want to live there, as they say..
Daze with Jordan the Lion
If you are still in the Bay Area, I’d love to meet you.
I was there years ago and that place is amazing. 😀
WHat Happened in Alcatraz stayed in Alcatraz
Yeh. I wouldnt wanna be there...
Very interesting and informative. When I lived in Oakland years ago, they had just shut it down so never got to see it. Amazing and I'm sure a ton of interesting stories. Thank you, Jordan. I love your cameos👏👏. Much love to you and Jah ❤❤❤🦁
I always feel like that place has to be full of horrible energy but the stories are fascinating. Thanks Jordan!
Arnie Slab been there it’s more sketchy than it looks
I wasn't nearly as creeped out at Alcatraz as I was at Missouri State Penitentiary. I could physically feel the negativity there. The only other time I felt something like that was at the concentration camp at Dachau.
Places can certainly hold energy as you say. There is a little tiny town in Arizona called "Jerome". It is made up of just 2 or 3 little streets slashed into a mountainside. It started out as a mining town for gold, copper, etc in the 1800s. ANYWAY ( lol) I drove through there one night at about 2 am and I felt the most evil energy I have ever felt. I had a vision of miners being stuck underground and left there. I searched the archives and could not find any accidents or anything though, It was quite intense. I am still talking about it 30 years later.
@@judddavis3548 I am sure there were accidents. I grew up in Bonne Terre, Missouri over the world's largest man made cavern, a massive flooded lead mine abandoned in the 1960's by the St. Joe Lead Company. The local historical society interviewed a long time employee, who at the time was well into his 90s. I asked him about mining accidents and the story that perhaps the company tried to cover them up (after closure they were seen dumping records into the abandoned mine.) He told us they weren't hiding anything, they simply saw no value to the records (as an archivist by trade, I recoil at that now.) He said every accident that occurred went across his desk and he remembered every one. But "officially" there is no record of any of them. Long story short, I'm guessing that is probably the case here too. Jerome had a pretty famous strike in 1916. I knew the name of the town sounded familiar. There were lots of strikes in 1916 and 1917 (including one in Bonne Terre, though that one had serious anti-immigrant motives) and safety and accidents (and the fact that companies didn't give a crap if you died) was often one of the reasons for strikes.
@@MMorbid Awesome information . Thanks !!
It’s crazy how everything is still in place inside the cells
A huge portion of Alcatraz was destroyed during the last escape attempt, also the native Americans destroyed and desecrated many things on Alcatraz when they occupied the Island in the late 70s. Now because of asbestos and deterioration most of the island is off limits to the general public.
Great video, I was lucky go and visit a couple years back and seeing your video brings back the memories and like you mentioned I grabbed a cup and spoon from the shop
Many, many years ago I vacationed in San Francisco and visited Alcatraz. It was an erry feeling , lot of unsettling spirits and people did not want to continue on the tour. Never so glad to leave that place.
Love the history of Alcatraz, great vlog Jordan.
I'm reading the book in my school and it said that Alcapone always loved to work and read in the library ♥️❤️
This vlog was exceptional! Thank you Jordon, enjoyed this a lot.
In the 90's we went to San Francisco, and one of my husband's Bucket List, was to see Alcatraz. We did, made an impression on us both!! TY again.
That is a tour l wanted to do but never will.
It didn't disappoint.... so much better from your view, than that of documentaries.
Thank you again Jordan. 😁👍
You're very welcome
I went through San Fran on my way to Disneyland with my friend and his parents. We had a limited time there and we missed the sailing to Alcatraz. Thanks for the tour.
The outside with the trees was quite pretty.
Can’t imagine working there. ☹️. Great video
That's actually rebirth island, I've lost many comrad there, granted they respawned but what memories.
Appreciate you sharing this experience very intriguing
Awesome video Jordan, I was raised in South San Francisco and I never went to Alcatraz, thanks to you now I have!👍
This video is awesome. Very detailed and informative. Made me feel like I was there in person and looking at the Alcatraz. Nice narration too. Well done bro.
Wow, I was just there 11/20-11/25/19!! Loved the Alcatraz tour!
I recently started following you after realizing that I had already found several of your vlogs looking up various things online. I went back and started watching all your old blogs starting with #1. I wish you would do a vlog on Dio and the Rainbow in the 70's
I work on Alcatraz and subscribe to your channel. You walked right by by office in this video. I would have been blown away to see you there.
Alcatraz is on my bucket list. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the great tour
Hi Jordan. That was fantastic. I like the fact that you get as much detail about thre vlog your show. That is one place I will never visit. Again I saw the vlog through your eyes Ken 👍
I visited there in 2016 and was also amazed at the colorful gardens that were in various places that were originally started by the prison guard families. Imagine families with kids living there. The island had its own electrical plant, water treatment plant, and various prison workshops. I remember the radiators in front of the huge windows, which were covered with curved rebar or steel bar. Besides the corroding steel and concrete, it was expensive to operate with the daily commuting and supplies being brought in by boat, which was another reason it was closed. Modern day inmates wouldn't make it there today as there was no TV, very strict rules and discipline, and no perks of any kind!
I thank those 3 men for making history
Love your channel!! I do not get to watch as much as I would like! Trying to catch up on all your vids! Just watched Carol Lombard William Powell house one!! OMG I feel EXACTLY the same regarding My Man Goddfrey and Gone with the Wind! My two most fav movies of all!! I sent you a email to find out if you would ever do anything on Doug McClure, I know he is not OLD Hollywood but non the less would love to see his last house! Keep up all the wonderful work!!
Prior to this my only knowledge and tour of alcatraz came from the movie the Rock (1996) . Thanks to this video my knowledge is refined.
This was a really interesting video man !!! Loved all your knowledge I had never seen Alcatraz like this before thanks.
Hi, you may have mentioned it but have you seen Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood? It was great, watching you walk through there took me back to the movie. The furnished cell with the "accordion" may have been a remake of the cell Clint Eastwood's character stayed in. He used the accordion to cover the grate because he was escaping through it. I was able to visit some 20 years ago but would love to do it again. Thanks so much for your post and all of the research, very much appreciated. Take care, from NY.
Hey Jordan Joe, did the same tour year's ago loved the history of it, it's what I expected of it. Would do it again. By the way like your cap big fan of the Yankees myself 😂
Love how informative you are keep it up I love watching your tour videos !!
Great video
Da na na na da nananna
Great vlog today, Thanks, Jordan!! Take care stay safe...🌺🌸🌼🌻🌻👩🏻💻
That was very interesting! I really enjoyed the video. Thanks!
My great uncle was a guard at Alcatraz for a brief time. He said during his time there that the inmates were confined to their cells for 23 hours a day and were actually forbidden to speak! How terrible would THAT be?? To be not only locked up but left in total silence as well! He said it wasn't even pleasant to work there so he quit after less than a year and joined the navy.
Great stuff.
I did this tour several years ago. One thing I remember is how horrified the guards were by those fake heads, partially because they were made with real human hair. The guys had an in with the barber who gave them hair for their dummies. The writing from the native American occupation was there then too. They made us think it was original, so I don't believe that is a recreation. This isn't the creepiest prison I've toured. Missouri State Penitentiary is so incredibly creepy. At one time it was called the bloodiest 47 acres in America. It housed prisoners for 168 years, including James Earl Ray, Emma Goldman, Blanche Barrow, and Sonny Liston. It closed in 2004. It's so haunted that the former guard who gave our history tour told us his own personal experiences even though it wasn't a ghost tour. I'm betting Eastern State Penitentiary is also mega creepy. That's where they filmed Shawshank Redemption, and that place has some bad juju too. I haven't been there but a really good friend of mine has.
Another interesting vlog, thanks for uploading..😎
Fantastic one ☝️ today Jordan!
Brilliant would love to see it some day
all i can think about is mob of the dead from black ops 2 when i see/hear abt alcatraz
Does this remind anyone else of school
15:00 did they try looking on air
How about a Anton Yelchin episode? Maybe too fresh of a loss ...... Just a idea. ✌
I find it odd how very little has been made about the known successful attempt to escape Alcatraz by John Paul Scott Dec 62. It makes me wonder whether authorities know more than what they are telling about the previous escape made by Frank, John and Clarence. John Paul scott was less equipped than the previous escape and was in December rather than the warmer time of year in June. Suddenly the place is closed by the following March 1963. The last escapes certainly accelerated the closer
I went there
I can walk through that whole thing and know exactly where I’m going because of call of duty rebirth island
Capone was actually there for 4 1/2 years...
By far the best tour I've seen on Alcatraz! Huge thanks, Jordan.
I’m related to ma barker she’s my great grandma
Thanks Jordan I enjoyed this I'm glad I never ended up there lol looks very lonely and sad
I know 😫
Do they let u shut the door in the d block cell?
Didn't mention Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson😒😒😒
Fascinating! You provided such an insightful view of Alcatraz. Thank you.
Very cool and informative. I have been to Alcatraz maybe 20 years ago it doesn’t look much different. Of course nowadays if they operated it like that they would see so many lawsuits it would make their heads spin. Looks like you had an absolutely beautiful day in San Francisco. Thank you Jordan
Cool
The escape, and the fake dummy heads was pretty clever back then.
@Deja i think they got away. If they didn't, the bodies would have been found.
Colm Deasy it’s not that simple. You need various materials and things to close in cracks. Otherwise water could get in the submarine. So that wouldn’t work man. But still a good idea
Clint Eastwood was in the movie Escape from Alcatraz.
@@anitaquick3756 its a true story
Great video
Back in the 70's my parents took me there when I was a child. Although too young then to understand the entire concept and history of the prison, I do still remember it clearly. I recognize so much of this vlog through photos that I still have. Mom and dad are long gone now, but this brought back memories of a beautiful day with them. Thanks for taking me back Jordan.
So interesting, I was going to comment to say almost the exact same thing, so I instead decided to reply to your relatable comment, except I went around the late 90s or early 2000s if I’m correct. I was around 10 years old. I found it incredibly interesting and still to this day find crime and punishment history very interesting. My parents got us a guided tour so it was a bit different but definitely more informative. I still to this day watch videos of abandoned prisons and it all just brings me back to my first experience.
This was the best tour of Alcatraz I’ve seen. Thanks Jordan
Thanks
Yes well done!
Just wanted to say thanks for this channel. Being stuck at home waiting for this whole virus situation to end is enough to drive you nuts! Living vicariously through your trips has helped a bunch. Thank You!
Bryan Wickel I agree!
Inspired me to hit the road and be safe!!!
4:31 You had no name when you were here you were a number.. Sounds like most of the jobs I had..
The worst part had to have been catching glimpses of the city knowing people are living their lives while you're just a forgotten number on a rock. Machine Gun Kelly once thought he'd get cute with a guard he saw eating a sandwich for lunch by saying how he once had the cars, women, and steak dinners in his time and never a plain sandwich. The guard simply replied "I've got a date tonight with a nice redhead and I know one thing-*I won't be here but you will.* Kelly never said anything after that.
Savage!
When he said "machine gun kelly" I automatically thought the rapper😂😂😂
YEAH SAME! i was like “huh?! colson went here?” 😭 i had to take a double take
Wasn't there a movie in the 70s (1979 ?) called 'Escape from Alcatraz ' ? (Based on the great Escape story ? ) I believe Clint Eastwood was in it. I remember seeing it. Great Movie !
Yes there was. One of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies.
It's on Netflix now
I have it on DVD
Shaun Elliott you are bang one mate this guy don’t have a clue lol one of them wrote a letter to the government years later telling them who he was and how they did it ect
Also " Birdman of Alcatraz" based on a true story. The Birdman was one you did not want back out on the streets. Several paranormal shows did investigations at The Rock and Eastern State Penn. Al Capone was at both places.
11:30 , I hear a child screaming, why would you bring a child to a place like this - great video BTW, best ive seen
Good question
If I never come to Alcatraz, you have showed me around the island in a brilliant way, thank you!
I believe that escape from Alcatraz was filmed there with Clint Eastwood 😀
Well done, Jordan! I enjoyed every second as this is on my list. And you were the best tour guide too! I couldn’t even imagine working there, never mind being an inmate.
Thank you. I followed along as close to the audio tour as I could to get the most out of the experience
Jordan provides another great history lesson. It is a reminder that bad behavior can result in some pretty awful circumstances.
Thanks
imagine the smell in there a bunch of nasty prisoners, and the noise of them all
Adam was thinking the same. Especially with the toilet in every cell.
They used to all bang on the bars and the toilet when they didn’t get what they wantef
And only got to shower 2 times a week
The first couple years Alcatraz was open they enforced a strict no talking rule, so it was pretty quiet a lot of the time. Just like in other prisons a smelly inmate is prone to being attacked from other inmates. The prisons cement floors were kept spotless by the cons who were on work detail. Alcatraz did stink of cigarettes though. The plumbing at Alcatraz had salt water toilets, that might have created an odd smell. IDK?
Plus Capone with his nightly yelling about Jimmy. He did the same at Eastern State Penn.
"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." II Corinthians 3:17
”No one`s ever escaped from Alcatraz”
Frank Morris: ”Hold my beer”
Frank's bones are at the bottom of the Bay.
Buster Cherry my theory is that they took the raft of they survived so they knew they weren’t alive
Dauphin King huh
Weasel and the crew of motd, hold my plane 😂
ha ha ha
I loved visiting here when I went to San Francisco. I have always read and watched anything to do with the prison. A lot more is coming out about the great escape. I believe at least 2 made it
They recently made a documentary about the 2 that made it. They ended up living somewhere in Argentina. They showed the Christmas cards that the family received from them telling them that they were ok.
Yes i saw a documentary about the nephews, and they r convinced they survived. Its really fascinating
@@MiJacFan1 All 3 lived...Frank Morris the leader got to Ireland somehow
its not confirmed 2 made it.
They think two dressed as women went to a loved one's funeral.
This was a fascinating tour and backstory. I enjoyed this explore thank you, appreciated Jordan
one out of the three that escaped died but the two brothers survived an made it there's proof of a photo of them yrs later it wasn't until i believe it was either their nephews or grandson's (i can't remember) were interviewed about this an there was research done that proved that they did survive the escape im sure you could find out about it an do n update..just a thought..
Kaylene Cerva yeah you’re bang one of the bothers wrote a letter to the government years later about how they did it ect
My grandfather retired from the federal penitentiary system and he retired in Lompoc California (big fed prison there). When i was growing up his fed pen guard friends were from Alcatraz. I got to hear first person stories about the bird man and other characters back then. I thought my grandfather and his friends were the coolest ever.
That is really cool, first hand stories.
Looking into that narrow cell it felt suddenly claustrophobic. Awful.
👩💻You are right! I can see Clint Eastwood sitting there on the giant steps planning "Escape From Alcatraz." Much love and peace. 🙋♀️🪔🌠🖖🐞🔆🔆🔆🥰🧘♀️☯️
I visited there a few years ago and I just want to say you gave a great tour. I truly believe I saw more on your video than I remember seeing while I was there. You were right about the smell, pretty bad. Also I would recommend if you go, even in the Summer, I would suggest you take a light weight jacket. The wild is blowing and it can get a little cool.
I visited in 1981 and there were no block signs but all the cells painted half green were done for the Clint movie ‘Escape from Alcatraz’. Glad to see it is more of a museum now. Thanks Jordan!
I have been here it was awesome! he's right as soon as I walked out on that prison yard there was a very heavy feeling. I thought of Shawshank Redemption right away
Hey, Jordan! I’ve been waiting for this tour and I was NOT disappointed! It was so fascinating to me and you covered everything so thoroughly. What a hell hole. I always think of the movie, “Birdman of Alcatraz” with Burt Lancaster when I hear Alcatraz mentioned. Thanks as always for all the time and effort you put into each vlog. It shows!
Very happy to hear you enjoyed it!
Incredible vlog Jordan. I loved every second of the Vlog. I was really surprised how close it was to San Francisco. You're so lucky to have the prison almost to yourself. Do you know what the Vault room was in the admin room.? Number 14 in D block is said to be haunted. You should do a ghost tour. You did an outstanding job. It's pretty steep going down the sports field to the back half. Amazing views of the bridge and the bay. Thank you Jordan for sharing
Thank you so much
I was there in 2002 and it was awesome to see it. Everything you described and showed was exactly how I seen it as well. Pretty cool.
in 2007, the accordion was sitting up on the shelf though, lol.
D block had bigger cells cause inmates in D wouldn’t get out of there cells as often as others sometimes days at a time .
Man you done a great job,, you had me interested all the ways with this great tour through history. I really enjoyed this , it made my night here in Eire 👍
The salt air basically rotted the concrete so that is how the 62 escape took place.
Plus by that time there were budget cuts and the guard/road tower was no longer manned at night. That tower overlooked where Morris & the Anglins climbed down the roof.
I definitely think the prisoners that dug their way out of their cells survived. This is definitely a place I want to see ! Great vlog Jordan!
That would be fantastic place to ghost hunt. If they let me, I would bring my gear and stay the night. Thanks for the tour!!
@@whispersoftheafterlife1017 Agreed
Hi Jordan, well, if that didn't put you off committing a crime I don't know what would!!! It sure does make you appreciate being free!! I'm going to go for a walk in the fresh air now after watching that. Great vlog Jordan.
I want to visit Alcatraz so bad. Its definitely on my bucket list but at least I can live it through you.
I wouldn't have wanted to be a prison guard there for any amount of money. Looks depressing and dismal.
I agree.
Great job vlogging Alcatraz Jordan . You showed more of the prison than I've ever seen before .
The best video I’ve seen on Alcatraz
It was like I was there
👍
So now I know where the rapper MGK got his name from. LOL
Is there a significance for the flat bars for some of the cells? Curious if any mediums have been there?! This prison has no way to watch the prisoners like there is now so they have to be very vigilant and extremely cautious I would think! Thank you for this video!! Enjoyed very much! You can see in the bars where they were thinner in places where hands were there!....if those walls could talk!
When Alcatraz was built by the military in the early 1900's, all the cells were flat bars. When Alcatraz was turned into a federal penitentiary in 1934, cell blocks B and C were converted to the heat-treated, round, tool-proof bars. Due to the overall budget, cell blocks A and D were left with the flat bars. Cell block A never housed inmates, it was used as a storage unit. Cell block D was complete segregation, locked down behind a steel door from the other cell blocks.
Sure enjoyed this tour. I have always wanted to see Alcatraz. What a dismal existence, but with such history. Great job Jordan!
I'm claustrophobic, I'd lose my freaking mind.
Many did iam sure
when my brother went there he said it had a real dark vibe
Yes!!! it's in the air!
Ikr
