  • Video of Anemoi Rotor Sail (Flettner Rotor) System operating on board the m/v Afros in Baia de Paranagua, Brazil. 4 Rotor Sails were installed on the bulk carrier, m/v Afros, in 2018 and were fitted on a rail system, allowing them to be moved on the deck to ensure cargo operations are unaffected.
    Rotor Sails are an energy saving technology for the shipping industry. The technology can reduce harmful emissions by up to 30% and help the industry reach its environmental targets.

    Uhm the sails weren’t even in use during the entire video or at least most of it. They need to rotate to work and a big chunk of the video was a tug boat moving the ship anyway.

    Imagine a cargo ship that is not only faster, more stable, maneuverable, and consumes less power, while using hydrogen.
    You can have Schneider propellers, rotor sails, and Cyclorotors on the sides. Making it All Around More Stable

      @@uelssom - all they showed were the units being shifted around on deck. They were not spinning at any point in the video.

    Brazil has a ton of potential for water transportation. We currently rely too much in trucks

    Is it working?

    • @troychampion
      @troychampion Год назад +1

      No, it is not working, they are designed to work on the magnus effect, but they are not, if they were they would be spinning ... they think this works like an airfoil...and it should sort of... the problem is the magnus effect works on a spinning object.. these "airfoils" are not spinning thus the movement of the air past the round post does... nothing but slow down the boat... if you want to understand it... watch veritasium's video on the magnus effect... where he drops a basketball off a damn then drops the ball again with the ball spinning.. then you will understand the importance of the spinning... it also matters the texture of the painnt.. like the basketball which is designed to get a "grip" on the basket ball court... it grips the air as it spinns.... these are smooth.cylinders which will have no grip... and be pointless other than deflecting the air. forgive my typing i am writing this from across the room and can't even see what i am typing..hagd... (ps, the magnus effect is real, it could work, but i dbout very seriously that this IS working because of the reasons i mentiontioned.

    Kombiniert Flettner mit Kite..dann könnt ihr den wind auch von hinten nutzen..

      Good idea- the rotor sails only improve fuel savings ~5%

    Please read before watching !!!!! Nothing happens, the ship is docking and they only move the Rotor sails back and forth on the deck.
    A Literal waste of 4:18 - Do NOT watch.
