We have had cats as family members since 1996, and we never chose a single one, as they all chose us. All were rescued. All our cats were spayed or neutered, and were a mix of male & female. The most boisterous of them have always been the males.
I agree! Males are big babies😂 When I had to travel a lot for work, when I’d arrive home, the male cats would run to meet me at the door. The female cats were aloof and wouldn’t let me pet them until I got the message to never do that again.
@@nickimontie Sounds more like you are pushing your own stereotype onto these cats. I often noticed the opposite with most cats I had, where the males were aloof, and the females would rush to meet me or anyone who came home. The female cat I have right now does this.
I'm in my 50s now & grew up with many cats. I've noticed that male cats tend to be affectionate & clingy. Females tend to be a bit bossy & territorial, especially Calicos & Torties. That's just my own experience though. Each kitty is unique!
I've had mostly boy cats and only three girls. Of the females, two were very affectionate and one not so demonstrative (although I know she loved me). Edit: I think my orange boi has all five personality traits. 🤪
We have 5 cats, all fixed: one male, four females. The male is more laid back but also is boss cat. He has no problem staring down any of the females. He's not normally affectionate but will climb on my lap from time to time and purr like a freight train; he was rescued an a dumped yearling, btw. Two of the females are total cuddlers: one likes to put both paws on my shoulder and give neck kisses. The other one stretches out of my chest and literally gives hugs, paws on either side of my neck. We rescued a two-week old feral orphan kitten last summer. The female cats would have *nothing* to do with her, but the male cat immediately accepted her. They sleep together, legs intertwined. Yes, they all have distinct personalities! When adopting, let the kitten choose YOU. You'll know when it happens. Your gender doesn't matter to them, so why would you let their gender matter?
I have both. My male cat is the instigator between the two when it comes to him causing fights between them too. Both were rescued from the streets a year apart but at around the same estimated age of 6-8 weeks old. Gizmo (male) was found wandering a parking lot by himself by an old neighbor who unfortunately got hit by a car while on his bike therefore he wasn't able to care for Gizmo. Another neighbor brought him to my husband and I very sick with both eyes badly infected and an upper respiratory infection. We believe he had been owned before though since he was such an affectionate cat and possibly dumped after he got sick. Our female cat Meeko was a feral kitten who was accidentally trapped in our old apartment after we think she must've followed me inside behind my wheelchair unnoticed until late that night when I heard a meow and looked over the side of the bed to see her looking up. It took about 6 months to get her comfortable enough just so we could pet her.
I've had both female and male cats. My Red Persian Cat Sasha yowled a lot even after she was spayed. Carol my mackerel tabby cat was spayed before she could be in heat and she actually acted like a big kitten. My cat Tiger-J was neutered before he had a chance to start spraying.
I’ve had both and at the same time or one another of each gender separately. They’ve all adopted me! Love 💕 them all. Always neutered or spayed asap so no marking, howling to endure. My absolute favorite was my female Siamese who didn’t vocalize non-stop. She barely had a meow (very quiet and gentle), lived to be 14 years old, and was my Velcro friend! Loved loved her! Miss her still to this day, almost 6 years later…🥺🥹
I totally get how attached we can be to our fur babies! I miss my Raleigh Every. Single. Day and can barely talk about him without tearing up despite the years. They are truly family and are etched into our hearts forever!
We currently have two of both. Now my old calico is one needy cat she is my hold me cat and our lap cat and oddly has become more social in her senior years. She will 16 in May and while she is definitely temperamental which is understandable since she lives with three other cats under 5 and a human 5 year old. Our female panther Onyx is also needy and will sit in the hallway meowing until she gets picked up. Now our male panther is the bedroom and bathroom cat. He corners my husband for attention when he knows my husband is stuck. Obsidian is also our nose licker and will grab my husband's face just to lick his nose. Of our 4 Jasper or medium haired Flame Point mix is probably the most aloof but he will also demand attention especially from me. Now all 4 cats ate very nosy and getting ready for the day involves being aware of all 4 cats watching and getting in the way. They also try and get involved with laundry, bed making and when ever I try to clean my daughter's room since both are apparently very interesting to all 4. So I agree gender especially in fixed indoor cats. Another odd thing is that our two panthers confused a termite inspector by following him around the house. He probably isn't used to cats being so social and curious.
Out of all the years I've owned cats, I've only had one male tuxedo cat who live just days away from turning 20, 20 years old. Otherwise all my other cats have been female cats all fixed and they live on the average between 13 and 16 years
I read or saw somewhere that, if you want to bring in a new cat in a home that already has a cat, you should get one younger and of the opposite gender as the cat you already have. Has anyone else had any experience with this?
The Cat Distribution System has provided most of my cats and I’ve been smitten with all of them. For some reason, I’ve had three males for every female. All three females have been “love sponges” and only two of the boys were not super snuggly. Got the first two cats when I was 11 and I’m 66 now. Gender isn’t important to me (all have been spayed or neutered anyway); if it purrs, I’m in Heaven. I can’t imagine my life without cats! 😍🐈🐈⬛🐈🐈⬛😍💘
I wonder - I've had so many cats over the years, all types from rescues to fancy breeds - and I do see males with a tendency to become more attached to me than females, even as some of the females have been among my favorites! And my hubby seems to have the opposite experience with girl kitties! So maybe there's a hormonal bonding/attraction type thing? As with humans, even after gonad removal there are traces amounts of sex hormones remaining in both males and females, without which we can't live! Also, over 30+ years of TNR & socializing rescues, I've noticed that many cats will avoid the human sex that traumatized them... Of course this is generalized observation & won't apply to each & every individual case, but maybe there's something there?
As a cat mom with a 20 year experience i do not agree!!! Even castrated cats of different genders are very different . You can always say who is a boy, who is a girl.
As someone who has had cats for the over 30 years of my existence, I disagree. When neutered/spayed, female cats can jump everywhere and fight, while male cats can be docile, etc. You can't tell who is a male or female when they have been spayed/neutered, and the only reason YOU can tell the difference is because they are YOUR cats and YOU anthropomorphize onto them because you already know which cat is male/female. We literally owned a cat we swore was a female.... until bringing them in to be spayed and finding out through the vet that the cat was male. Stop pushing your weird norms onto animals, it's gross

@ That was my experience too.

I was adopted by a male cat. He seems cool. He likes watching RUclips, sleeping on my bed and eating my food.
LOL bruh moved himself in :P

I have always had cats. Male or female doesn't change anything, i'll love them whatever gender they are and i will always get them neutered.

I have six cats: five female and one male. All are fixed. But three of my females and the male still mark. Nutert and Spide do not stop marking.
My void baby girl was super affectionate and sweet! It's not based on gender at all, just the cat's personality :)
I love my female tabby cat 🐈 great video 😊

I had a female calico kitty. She was a very chill cat. She slept next to my head.
Thank you
You're welcome! 😺
In all the years I owned cats I feel like the males were more outgoing and affectionate.
I have always wanted to adopt a Male American shorthair cat but unfortunately I don’t have the time or the financial resources to support a cat. :(
Had a female who was the sweetest tamest cat ever

Female
I just want to know how one would curfew a cat?
I can confirm, Male and Female cats equally snub humans
