Henry and Roberta, that was a great video and Lylla was brilliant - what a find! I used to have a "healthy" appetite when I was your age but I don't think I could have put that much food away in such a short time...well done.
We’ve totally loved your Vietnam series, you’ve given us loads to think about for our second trip to the country at the beginning of July. We’re going with our teenage children for the whole month and are sooooo doing the supermarket snacks tasting, as well as food tours in Hoi An and Hanoi. Although we fell in love with Vietnam when we visited in 2022 I feel we missed out by not doing some of the tours thinking they were too touristy. This time we intend to embrace the tours and will find the balance between booking them and roaming around aimlessly bumping into stuff. Thanks again. Can I buy you a coffee?
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I'm sure that you and your family will have a fantastic time! Supermarket snack tasting is always a favourite of ours everywhere we go :) We have also tried to avoid certain areas and activities due to a concern that they may be too touristy so you're not alone there. I think a food tour is generally a pretty safe bet and our tour with Lylla was truly fantastic! One of the great things about Vietnam is the ease of finding good food simply by wondering around and looking for the spots that are busy with locals. Taking a photo of menus and using the phone to translate has been a massive help when in super local spots! Honestly, just being a subscriber is enough for us. We really do appreciate it ❤️
after living in Central Vietnam i cant live anywhere else due to the amazing coffees. super sad when i tried living in Saigon and couldnt find a nice coffee or cafe :( also the food in Central Vietnam is so amazing and special. this host did a fantastic job
As a saigonese I am very sad when you said you cannot find a nice coffee in Saigon 😢 Okay lemme recommend you some nice coffee shop 😊 Là Việt or Barista Collective or Epic Coffee Roastery
@Lucil120 cam on rat nhieu. I have friends there and will visit. Perhaps its absolutly necessary to drive motorbike. Its my favourite big city in the world but i dont like big city. Anything more than 2 million is too much hahahha I grew up and spent most of my life in Sydney 6 million but then moved to small australian city of 400 000 and it was a lot better. Its good living in a city where you can travel maximum 25 minutes to get anywhere from any location. Park anywhere. And also people jave more balanced life. The area near the airport looks nice and new in Saigon but can you also recomend nice market to buy lunch please? We can become good friends. Sorry if i say anything not nice about your city. Theres many things i love and appreciate about Saigon
Thank you so much. We really are enjoying our time here. We have had such great interactions with local people and we have been shown so much kindness. Thank you for your comment ❤️
Gret Video guys, thoroughly enjoyed it. Where dis you find the tour guide, she was awsome. Maybe share her details, might use her for our next future trip to Hanoi.
I'm a local and I don't like that flan/pudding either lollll. BUT nothing beats the Xôi Xéo - the sticky rice with mung bean and fried shallots. I'd move cities just to have that as my breakfast seriously haha. Welcome to Vietnam Henry and Bobby!
Thank you so much!!! The Xôi Xéo that we ate with Lylla is STILL one of the best things I've eaten in Vietnam and I've been here for 6 weeks now! Just thinking about it now is making me hungry again ☺️
For anyone interested in doing a tour, all of Lylla's details are posted in the description of this video. Thanks for watching and don't forget to Subscribe to see more videos!
i was going to say i love her accent and tones but she also comes from Central which is unique but does lean towards southern accent however especially when she apologised XIN LOI she really used the tones. thats why she loves ca phe muoi as well. Its also difficult to find a ca phe dua as well outside central Vietnam.
Henry and Roberta, your pushing me to put Vietnam up on my list, I have Ireland and Pakistan and 7 countries in Europe, early next year was going to Mumbai, maybe Vietnam might have to be moved up to mid next year instead of 2026? 🇮🇪🇻🇳
You won't regret it Mick! An amazing country! Was planning on 2 days in Hanoi and we spent 12 there 😁 So much amazing food to eat and places to discover.
And one more thing, in authentic Chả Rươi, it's not orange peel that's used, but rather tangerine peel specifically from Thanh Hoá province, which is what makes Chả Rươi truly genuine.
We ate Cha Ca La Vong at Chả Cá Thăng Long. We really enjoyed it, although I almost set the restaurant on fire when I tried to turn off the cooker and I turned it up to maximum 😂 We ate Bun Rieu in a different video! “The worlds CHEAPEST BEER” Subscribe and you won’t miss any other videos 😊

If you are taking anything from a communal bowl (such as garlic or chilli for example) then you should turn your chopsticks around and use the back end as they haven’t touched your mouth 😁
Omg Lylla is AMAZING!! -but as you might also understand.. I hate that she makes me think back at everything I hate about Vietnam.. the thing is that i LOVED all the food.. EVERYTHING. This makes me mad about how much I want to come back!! The first time I went I must have gained a couple of kilos. When I came back this year I must have gained even more! I really like that you were honest about the worms. I was also served it without knowing what it was and it was really good. Morally it felt bad afterwards but Thịt Chó were also very good.. but I would prefer to stay with the pork belly. Still have problems with eating Balut and Tiết canh due to the often hard taste of iron that I don't like..
17:30 wow i eat this when i eat banh beo but wow. this is giant sized. of all the foods seen today i really want to try that. as someone who lives in central Vietnam i would love to have this tour guide. Hanoi is too big and wild to just randomly explore even for someone who lives here. you really should get a guide like this lady.
I would recommend anyone visiting Hanoi to contact Curious About Vietnam to arrange a tour. They also have food maps available on their site! Thank you for your comment ☺️
Hà Nội có vô số món ăn ngon, đây chỉ là 1 góc nhỏ thôi. Tuy nhiên việc ăn nhiều loại thức ăn trong một chuyến đi sẽ khó cảm nhận hết độ ngon của từng món ăn.
Hanoi really is a foodie heaven! You’re right about that, it’s not easy but that’s where Lylla steps in 😂 She made sure that we didn’t eat too much and we shared quite a lot of things. It was definitely a balancing act but I think she did a great job of making sure our taste buds were well rested ☺️

It’s so hard to pick a favourite but the roast pork belly was so so so good. I still think about it sometimes 😂

Well actually, we can now grow lemons all over Vietnam 😅🍋 but it is not as popular as limes and the price is not as reasonable.

to have a better look in hanoi food culture, u should try one of its most unique dish which is Cha ca La Vong, and also cannot leave without Bun rieu.

The respect for the broth is a game-changer for me-I’ve never thought of it that way. Any other local food etiquette tips you can share?
