Mr Terry, I will never thank you enough for being this YT version of every good teacher I've had in my life! Since you asked on Portugal, we had like one major battle in La Lys with the expeditionary force. Not so much as a footnote, but the Portuguese were not too keen on getting too involved back then given the internal turmoil
To be fair the young Turks were the only ones that would have joined the central powers. Every other faction wanted to stay neutral or join the entente.

@@poil8351 I’m mean if you think about it the Bulgarians and ottomans had the same motivates to regain what they lost from the Balkan wars. And that’s kinda why the young Turks were pretty unique because the obvious option for them to regain territory would be to go to war with the central powers for Bulgaria because Bulgaria has Balkan claims on most of what the Turks want and at best the Turks are allowed Greece, but even Bulgaria has claims on Greece.
WWI was such a mess, but god if all sides did not learn the most about tactics and technology than any other war in history. It’s what makes it the most intriguing to me. The jump from 1919 to 1936 is unbelievably astounding.

Imagine the alt history. No Telegram to Mexico. or just the war of serbia in general. It was said that the Kaiser wasnt around to help with the decisionmaking of the list for serbia. If Austria declared earlier the entire war wouldve been different.
The central powers still lose even with a later American entry because the Americans were practically bankrolling the allies by the end of the war so they would want to ensure they got their money back and Germany had generally been upsetting the American populace and by the end it was just Germany and they had been fighting hard for the entire war and it’s much more likely they surrender before the entente. But it would possibly lead to a better negotiating position for Germany so a slightly less harsh treaty. And if the war started earlier then France is in a-lot more trouble but they stopped the Germans in real life so it wouldn’t be too crazy to assume they hold the Germans off long enough for British reinforcements and allow Russian to finish their mobilization as this earlier start could remove months of secret Russian mobilization but in the grand scheme of the war it probably won’t make much of a difference because Germany is likely to be halted in France and even a few extra months wouldn’t be enough to break the French by then.

I really recommend an anime/manga about this war. Saga of Tanya the Evil. I like the novel and manga more since the anime make the MC look like a war monger when all he really want is to retreat to the back line and lose in peace since he known the future. The mage in the series is the one to one to famous striker like red baron, the MC him self is the founder of Silver Wings. The politic is simplified and mostly only care about the tactics. Really great read if you are WW1-WW2 nerd

The language barriers within the Austro-Hungarian empire had to be a nightmare for sure 😄
With that many ethnicities within the empire, there was no way it was going to last in the long term.
