    18:30 - It is deeply rooted in Iranian politeness and hospitality rules to refuse favors ("tarof"), especially from a guest. The behaviour of these men was fully compliant to their society's standards, they were not being rude. It is important to point this out.

    • @englishlyrics5037
      @englishlyrics5037 3 года назад +22

      And the fact that they knew if they join the guests' meal, there is a possibility for the guests to not having enough of the food :)
      This is probably another reason that I guess as an Iraninan.

    • @brushemteeth9159
      @brushemteeth9159 3 года назад +2

      @It Is Cool That depends on the context of course. This is a very special and rather expensive present. What you describe is different from what I said: you can give presents to your host, but your host is socially obliged to take care of everything related to hospitality, especially food (like in Evas case). The person will probably refuse at first out of politeness ("tarof"), but if you insist, they will eventually accept it and enjoy the gift.

I, unfortunately, don't speak any Farsi, but I'm trying to get classes! It's so wonderful to see all the good in Iran rather than focusing on the government. :) we were supposed to go summer 2020 but because of covid we weren't able to

    When I learned Persian, part of my studies included learning about different aspects of the culture, the food, the poetry, the history, the geography, etc. I learned to love the language, and was constantly amazed at the rich depth of their culture and history. The people are some of the smartest, kindest, and warmest I've ever met. And from the pictures and videos I've seen, the land itself looks absolutely stunning. I would dearly love to go there.
    Unfortunately, the Iranian government is quite literally the stuff of nightmares. I say this, not based on some "western media" political spin on it, but rather based upon the experiences of those who have lived there and were lucky enough to escape with their lives. Unfortunately, as is often the case with countries with governments like this, the people are amazing, but the government makes travel there very unsafe for almost any foreigner.

    What a beautiful documentary. I experienced the same reaction from people here in UK when I said I was visiting Iran. I went on my own. I did not speak Farsi.After my first visit I went back 3 more times. Why? I was given such a great welcome, most of them strangers. They took me in their homes fed me and would not allow me to stay in hotels. My last visit I stayed totally with the great friends I made. They are now my best friends. Best of all I met and married a beautiful Iranian girl and we live happily here in UK. We can’t wait to return back after the pandemic. My next visits I shall focus purely visiting the villages and countryside .
