You're not truly a perpetrator. You were abused, gaslight. They make you feel shame and guilt while in reality it was never your fault to begin with. Probably if you knew back then what you know now, you had left straight away, wouldn't you? That says everything about it ;)

@@divinadivina2017 Greed and not listening to your doubts makes you a perpetrator. Yes, in the beginning you are a victim. But as soon as you feel the pressure and that something isn't right you should not continue pulling others into the same awkward feeling. It is easy to only be a victim. People who stay longer and go up the line are victims AND perpetrators. They are all adults and should take their part of responsibility. MLMs can only exist because of vulnerable people AND people who are greedy and want a lavish livestyle. Of course a lot of people join because they are in a bad financial situation, but there are a lot of others too. I know some of them. They are doing ok but want more. Noone is forcing anyone to want a mercedes or pool or any other luxury.

I had a friend who joined an MLM after she moved back to her hometown. I wanted to be a supportive friend and so I bought the stuff she was selling, joined a group call (more like recruiting call), and attended one of their “parties”. Every time she would message me it was all she would talk about and would always try to convince me to join even after I already told her multiple times that it is not something I wanted to do. I eventually just stopped talking to her after that.

I was briefly in an MLM, and for me it was hard to say anything critical because they had all really drunk the Kool Aid. And honestly, the woman who recruited me really HAD made a good amount of money from it, and the woman who recruited her made a whole lot more, and the woman who recruited her made a whole, whole lot more. So they were experiencing the "success" and couldn't really believe that those of us at the bottom couldn't make out as well as they had. And frankly I couldn't bring myself to really try because the recruiting and sales tactics they tried to teach us felt so icky and disingenuous. I did like the products, and with the MLM in question, you were NOT expected to buy a bunch of stuff up front that you then had to turn around and sell off. But it was still overpriced and the payout was smaller than it really should have been. I couldn't help but think that if I put the same amount of time and effort into a regular, hourly pay side job, I would probably make more money, and it would be more reliable money. So I bowed out.

I called them out on this and was told to suck it up or get out. I got out.

With lower income countries MLMs have been in the system so long *everyone* is wiser about it. Social media recruitment has made it much more aggressive but we all had mothers and grandmothers who lost money some decades ago so we are all very cautious. I suspect MLM's growth in the West is a testament to how much things have deteriorated in social welfare there.

Even though I couldn't pin point what it was, I knew it was fishy. Glad my instincts worked that day. That company even charged us to attend their 'sales session' lol. They marketed it as independent entrepreneurship and how to build your business.

In my 20s when I worked in retail or other low wage jobs, I dabbled in MLMs as a way to earn a higher income. I tried Avon, MaryKay, Priamerica, a travel booking MLM, and nutrition shake one similar to Herbalife. I did not do well in any of these endeavors and thought it was that I was a poor salesperson and didn’t work hard enough. It didn’t dawn on me that MLMs are scams and don’t operate as a honest business venture. I’m at a place where I’m financially stable and would never consider a MLM as a business opportunity now that I know how predatory they are.

She does amazing job. I believe what she contributes is even if you reach that top 1% which is rare, why it's still bad.
I think some people may think, it might be hard to reach that 1% but once I do, my life would be great. I will work really hard & reach that 1%. what she shows is that even if you do , it's not worth it,stressful, & you can lose it at any time. which I would hope would change a person's mind in joining.
Watching her videos and her documentaries you can see how much skill and professionalism she has. Very intelligent.
That also proves it doesn't matter who you are, or how smart you are. If you are in a vulnerable place an MLM can put their hooks into you. (I think in any cult like group that I'd true.).

I was in a health MLM very briefly. I was preyed on by so many people that would friend me on my beauty channel asking me if I’d like to join their boot camp to lose weight. Being as that I had put on weight over the pandemic and gyms were closed I caved. The coach I had was so sweet until I started skipping my workouts to work on my Accounting deadlines. I will never forget getting Covid, and her telling me you don’t get results if you don’t show up for yourself. Like what!! It was so eye opening when I told her I had Covid and I wasn’t going to be buying the next boot camp package or promoting selling it. She literally did not reply and left me on read. It was damaging to my self esteem and triggered my eating disorder being on the strict portion control containers. I still occasionally check on her, and now she is making tic tics trying to recruit nurses (she was an RN) to her MLM. She goes over all the crappy ways nurses get treated and why would anyone put up with it when you can be like her making $$ while on a beach chilling. I have to wonder how problematic that is for our health care system to lose so many health care providers to MLM schemes. 🤔 Especially when there’s shortages of nurses ect already.

It was the worst thing ever and I became so brainwashed that when I would interview others I def felt like the perpetrator. They recruited young low income people and were promised the millionaire life on an entrepreneur. I was making no money at all for 80+ hour weeks. Tons of gas lighting. They denied they were an MLM but it was very culty. After someone left we were not allowed to say their name no matter how close friends we were / are with them. My heart also shattered when I found out Elizabeth Moss was in Scientology...I frickin love the Handmaid's Tale (though it becoming less and less fiction is truly terrifying...). The show got me to buy the book and undoubtedly likely played a part in Margaret Atwood giving a sequel nearly 40 years later (of which I also bought). The show is now tainted for me and not sure I want to keep watching it, either.
On the topic of MLM's, I unknowingly was in one for a few weeks. It was American Income Life, but I didn't know it was an MLM as one, I'd never heard of the company (though I knew what an MLM was) and two, they didn't push recruiting. They mentioned it as an option to earn more, but didn't shove it down our throats in an obvious way that we had to recruit (or maybe I wasn't there long enough to see that side). The woman here, Josie, is right, though. Nobody who is doing well joins an MLM.
I work customer service and in May of 2020, I left a call center job I'd been at for two and a half years that was emotionally exhaustive beyojd any other I'd worked at. We took calls for a few good companies that were still stressful and then also took calls for many very ethically bankrupt companies. We also made political calls during election seasons. Thankfully, I had moved to working overnight for more pay and that allowed me to avoid those calls after my first year, but the simple fact that they're pushed on us regardless is just...ugh. I had taken on all the extra roles I could as an agent and capped out at just $12.75 in two and a half years, and that's with the $0.25 cent raise given every year you're there. Too much stress for too little pay, so I moved on.
I would end up swapping jobs about five times that year. I flaked out of about three WFH jobs, with my computer in my bedroom two feet away. I was just...burnt. I don't have a degree because I didn't know what I wanted to go to school for and didn't want the high student loans with a degree that meant nothing to me. Even if I then wanted to go to school, I didn't have the money for it but according to the government, my $10 to $12 hour jobs was enough to not qualify for financial aid (also lived with my younger brother at the time who was earning about the same). And I seriously wanted to move out on my own. My brother disliked this state so I wanted him to be able to move closer to our older brother and I loathed the very loud and ghetto neighborhood we lived in. I don't think I've ever felt depression like I did that year.
I knew I hated sales but it was at least different from a call center. But still...it was sales. I like helping people, not selling to them. Also, the MLM required being on Zoom for 9 to 10 hours a day and my cheap laptop couldn't handle it. So, I left. I wouldn't even find out it was an MLM until the channel illuminaughtii covered the company months later.
Thankfully, 2021 was finally where things got better. Exactly on New Years Day, I was contacted about a job that was online chat...that paid significantly better than anything I'd ever received. Between it and the stimulus checks, I decided to not look a gift horse in the mouth. Both mine and my brother's cars had been dead for a year and so I got those fixed up. I paid off old debt (which I maybe shouldn't have...it didn't even help my credit score, I should've just let it fall off), moved my sibling to a new state and moved to my current location. The job sadly had to let nearly everyone go after that year, but it gave me what I needed most, renewed confidence in my worth. It took 3 months to find a new job and my unemployment had nearly run out. Desperation had begun to make me apply for horrible jobs, but I then closed the applications. I was worth more, I could do better. When I saw the post for my current job and read the company reviews, I knew I wanted to work here. That MLM definitely got me at my lowest point but I'm so happy I didn't get in deep with it and that I'm now doing much better.

I lost a lot of money in MLM in my late teens... and I remember feeling a struggle with charging people with money the owed me. Specially the people that hide from you. Till this day, is something I don't like and I thought I just can't be a salesperson. But as an educator and psychologist, I don't have a problem teaching or motivating or trying to convince, because in these scenarios I am trying to make a difference vs. MLMs where I was just trying to profit with products that most I didn't even believe in them. Now I am a sucker for subscriptions- but even though you get incentives for referrals, you don't depend on referrals and is still a loosing game because I end up with a lot of products I dont need. So compplicated! but thanks for the video

❤️ yes I feel so bad for them. Because it makes our relationships weird/disingenuous when we try to sell and make money on our friends and family. And I’m sure they don’t want that, they’re just trying to “hustle” because people tell them to.

I used to work at a local health shop And one of my customers was a real estate agent who was invested in multiple MLM companies. She really liked me and how I was big on natural health. And she like my sale style. Which was always to just use facts and not try to bombard people, but to just present them with information and let them make decisions. She actually flew me to Louisville Kentucky For convention and completely covered my food and flight. It turns out that this convention was a Pep rally. It was so weird and hookie. Everyone was mumbling their new Age i aM statements. I seriously felt like I was in loony house. It was hard to connect with anyone because most of the people were super excited and weird and they just didn't seem genuine. There was one guy I connected with who is actually a millionaire from The company and he was a little different because he seemed more genuine. But other than that, he was still drinking mccoolid.

I almost got sucked into Beachbody when I was a 22-year-old grad student. I had just gone into more educational debt, moved to a new city, and was feeling generally lonely and unsure of myself. The woman who reached out to me on IG (first red flag 🤦🏽‍♀️) literally did everything Josie talked about. She would talk about how all the ladies she met through coaching would be her future bridesmaids, how she could actively contribute to her 401k with this opportunity, how she had the life that so many people dreamt of…I really almost said yes but my boyfriend at the time saw the issues from a mile away 😂 I’m so happy I didn’t fall for it.

Insightful comment! I am certain the market will recover as we’ve experienced far worst time and despite hard fall, the crypto market rises tremendously than we’d expected. This isn’t the time to panic or sell due to its fall, but keep investing, buying and keeping. It’s really a waste to sell now and losing so much when you can make much in future when the market recovers. I had better understanding of this system working with Donald Nathan Scott.

I did order R&F for a long while from someone because I knew her from work and ultimately personally, I knew she sold R&F but in all the time I spent with her in and out of work she never once talked about it or tried to get me to sell. That is exactly why I bought from her, she didn't try to sell me i was genuinely interested in the product. Her not selling made me interested. She was honest and ethical about it and so I respected her.
On the other hand there was a different women also selling R&F whose private Facebook was plastered with it. She was insufferable and constantly messaging trying to get me to buy, constantly pushing products and making promises. I never bought a single thing from her. It felt slimy.

I was recruited into an MLM in college to sell knives. Thought I was going to an interview for a real job. Went through training and felt ok about it. But did one presentation of selling the knives to family and was like "this just feels weird and manipulative". I left without ever trying to recruit anyone to join and only having attempted to sell the product once. I don't know how I feel about people being involved in these MLM, advancing to great heights while pulling others in, and then being able to fall back on "I was a victim". I've been invited to other presentations since then and as soon as I realize this is mlm recruitment, I walk away. All of these have been during times of great financial need and yet still I walked away before becoming a perpetrator. I've known others who have done the same.

I know a few of the MLM's I've had introductions to whether it was Mary Kay or Premier Designs Jewelry, and a few more always seemed to pride their business based on them being "Based on God first and foremost." I remember going to their parties friends has hosted and as the party opening was being spoken they'd say, "And what's great about this company is it's based on God and family." Wow, just wow. I mean great if it's true but there's a whole lot of shady that goes on in MLM company's. So not thinking that's very true. MLM's as a whole are a no go. No nada forgetta 'bout it.
