He actually asked for a trade in the summer prior to last years season. Instead we shortened the point guard rotation and now he is the backup guard behind Derrick and Jrue (not the 6th man though, that's Al Horford).

The way he scores inside the paint is just amazing in terms of his timing, control, strong base. He is also holding his own on D where you cannot easily go by him or post him (team help & switches are perfected on this Celtics team). His contract clearly undervalue due to Celtics hiding him for 1.5 yrs, esp the time with Udoka & affected his confidence & stock.

I think when the new ownership comes in KP and Jrue are likely getting traded after this season to dump salary and primo draft capital. If they win the chip this year, maaaybe they eat the 2nd apron tax for one more season. They really need 2 out of Scheierman, Davison, Walsh, and/or Watson to pan out as legit rotation players, then they'll be golden. Scheierman has that Payton kind of competitive fire, I have little doubt about him.

Someone recently said (might've been Jrue Holiday) that Pritchard was the toughest to guard in practice. The guy can flat-out PLAY.

I remember reading articles that Pritchard wasn't happy with his playing time under Brad Stevens and was considering asking for a trade. So I am quite happy that Celtics gave him the opportunity to shine

Hoping for 6th man of the year for him. You do have to mention that he probably went to the best possible place for his talents. If he was drafted by many other teams he probably would not have made it due to lack of size. Boston helped develop him and they had such crazy leads especially last season he was able to get a ton of burn in games showcasing his value.

Consider when Brad Stevens extended him, it was after a season when his minutes were down, his 3pt percentage was considerably down, barely used in the playoffs and it seemed he took a big step back. Stevens is the best GM in the NBA.

I knew Ime Oduka was never coming back when Stevens offered Pritchard that contract. Oduka did not like Pritchard's game. He had 34DNPCDs in 2022-23. When Ime was suspended in September and Payton's contract was extended in October, it was pretty obvious what plans were in store for both.

  • @Aowall351

He would be a star starting PG on any team. He has every skill in the book.. speed, ball handling, shooting, driving, spacing, he can even post up bigger guards... in baseball there are 5-tool players , but there are really 8-9... confidence, situational awareness, and a strong mental.
The are NO holes in his game and he is just entering his prime... he will be the Celtics starting point guard of the future... between Jrue Holiday (who also said Payton is incredibly tough to guard, and is one of the best defensive guards in the NBA) Derrick White and PP... the Celtics are and will remain dominant.
To the nay-sayers ... I'd be my last dollar payton would be an All-Star level Guard with a starting role on any other team!
I compare him to two players.... 1. Steph Curry... ball handling and shooting ability / clutch / able to hit deep shots, court vision.... and similar to Dennis Schroder as well... but with a better shot, attitude, tenacity, ball handling skills, and defense.
The kid is proving he is the Celtics super weapon and that he is ONE of the best all around PG's in the NBA and will be for years to come.
NBA will take notice soon! I believe he will be the KEY to banner 19.
He's also a Great Teammate and incredibly harder works... I have nothing negative to say other than maybe with 1-2 month inches added to his height he would already be a superstar... but he has also proved to me (any many others) that regardless if he is a tad under-sized, that does not change any aspect of his game.
    GREAT content!
