Interesting, I knew Timex was stepping up their game but I didn't know they were doing these heritage type models with acrylic crystal. The good thing with acrylic is that scratches can be polished off fairly easily, they were going for a retro look with this one.
Because the Time Field Watch they are copying or making this newer version of was their Old Camper and their Mil. Spec version. It was a domed acrylic crystal watch. Similar to the Benrus Mil Vietnam War issue....research it
Robyn Griffin,Sydney Australia, sir,l have been collecting various series of timex watches for about 2 years and lam surprised that an American reviewer doesn’t know about the many stainless steel timex watches readily available thru Amazon such as their popular Waterbury red wing vintage re-issue watches these are exquisite steel timepieces with designs drawn from Timex’s vast archives and the Todd Snyder collaboration watches such as the beekman tachometer watches that to die for they a so vintage and again drawn from the timex archives from the fifties, yes some of the exposition field watches have a brass base metal often with a ion coated finish some in black and bronze but timex appears to be moving away from these lower end material for their. MK1 watches which are either steel or aluminium which is historically accurate materials and designs. In australia we no longer sell timex retail lve got all mine from Amazon but up until the 2000’s timex was always one of the most popular watch brands in Australia, so l don’t no what happened but l don’t buy my watches retail anymore because prices down here border on highway robbery l enjoy your detailed reviews, thanks !
Great review...I'd love to find one of those! I have a new "The Waterbury" almost like Redwing classic (not chrono) that the date will not adjust right out of the box. All other functions correctly, the date just doesn't turn when trying to adjust....Could you repair it for a fee?
As you saw, i was there to pull the trigger on the blue one and got distracted Like a 3 year old. I wasn't planning on it. Now that I have the "stainless" watch that is PVD coated, I am a bit disappointed, but still pleased overall. Now if I could just get these reviews down under 15 minutes . . .
Thanks for the in depth review. Big fan of field watch's and this tics alot of boxes for me. Plus never owned an indiglow watch so looking forward to new experiences. Subscribed and looking forward to more great watch content.
I don't know if you know that all the Timex Waterbury are stainless steel. I've also noticed that a lot of their new models are also SS. Personally I like the allied 3 GMT watch, it looks very nice. I was considering getting one of these MK1 in all black cause my very old Expedition scout just gave out after a few years of banging around.
Great in-depth review. I'm not at all convinced with your argument for a case coating though. Why would they bother with another process that just adds to the cost? Doesn't make sense. I'm no expert, so a large pinch of salt needed, but if the case is fine sand-blasted as it seems to be, the depth of the finish would be very shallow, just enough to dull the finish and add texture and, as you found, can be easily scratched down to the steel. I reckon this could be the more likely explanation.
The stainless steel is PVD or DLC coated. My guess PVD then bead blasted it's not uncommon it gives the case more versatility beyond polished or brushed in given the watch the matte look. It's quite popular Timex is hardly the only watch company to do this. in fact I don't know of any watch company from Timex to Casio to Seiko to Tudor that doesn't offer some PVD coating on their stainless steel watches. Also look at black stainless steel appliances , that's PVD coating.
Bill Dineen, I have more than a few PVD coated watches and like them all. I was disappointed in this one being coated because I was looking for Steal Timex that wasn’t coated and there is no information on their web site that this was coated. I really wanted to see how they would have finished a non coated Watch. Thanks for the comment!
Are you still within your return period? The white dial MK1 Steel TW2R68300VQ is a brushed stainless steel. the one you got is listed as Matte finish. You could do a swap out.
Basically anything under £100/250ish will have problems eg: 1. Marker timing issues 2. Crowns feeling cheap 3. Straps breaking 4. Cheap mineral glass 5. Time problems when pushing crown back in etc etc. Brands should offer more expensive watches that work well, rather than release inferior pieces that will ruin that reputation. I bought a Lorus and it has crown and marker issues - it cost me £50, so ofcourse the quality isn't there.
The finish is work the polish doesn't fit the style of the watch. Also I've broken 2 automatic hamilton and the repair is the cost of a new 2 new hamilton watches. For work or heavy use this watch is a steal.
Thanks! I work in the garage and temperatures reached into the triple digits many times this past summer. As high as 116 degrees F. So I either use the portable A/C or don;t do the videos. I have tried 5 different mics :)
The good part about acrylic crystals is they are real easy to polish out. You can even use toothpaste and a dish rag. I like the watch and wore it all weekend. I just don;t recommend working on your car with it :)

Agreed, easy fix polishing the scratches.

I was hesitating between the 3-hands and the chrono modell. This one won because of the thinner profile.

Just bought the same one for $52 on Amazon.
When you put that Timex under the scope I subscribed right then and there best review I've seen and I'm buying that Watch
Nice, was hoping you'd get the blue one, but this one seems great also.

I bought one and I was having anxiety thinking I caused the micro scratches.
Is the watch crystal replaceable can you make a video on that

Nice video. The Waterbury line is all Stainless Steel and a good value.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I still can't figure out why they coated it instead of leaving the steel showing,,
Is the dial black? Nice video...
The dial is a dark green. Hope this helps.

Excelent Review, love It. Best regards from Brazil, Mário.

Great review. Greetings from Ukraine!
I have the exact same watch. My seconds hand lands exactly between each markers I honeslty want to barf. Worst alignment I've seen on any watch

Paid 39 euros for the chrono version. Cant go wrong with that. Nice review.
Agreed!
How long does the battery last with the chrono?

I thought the back was stainless steel and the body was anodized aluminium.
great videos. just need to get a better mic with noise cancellation. too much ambient noise in the background
or turn the ac off if its on

A 15 minute review stretched out to 29+ minutes. I got some useful information, it just took too long.
Yeah, I tend to talk too much.
On Woot for $39.99
you just saved me 90 bucks. the scratches is a sure no no

don't be afraid of acrylic, very high impact resistance, better than any glass, and 5 minutes with polywatch will have it like new
Doesn’t the Omega Speedmaster come in acrylic also? It looks beautiful and is super easy to buff out scratches.
So.. sir, is this watch made of “ real” stainless steel or ( unfortunately for me) not?
Thanks.
Nice vid the way .
Typically, bead blasting stainless steel makes it more prone to rust than satin or polished.
