Beautiful. And your idea for installing tubular bells instead of casted ones sounds very sound. I was also surprised to see the hammering is on the top instead of at the middle. Your camera flight trough all the mechanics, bells, ropes, hammers is very amazing and well done. Thank you for that and thank you for the music!
@purplegoffer There's a little room in the ringing chamber, for about half a dozen people, but not much. But if a large group were to ring there (and a sizeable group has once before) then the main church is open and they can be clearly heard in there. So it is feasible for an outing!
They sound fantastic. Only point I got to say is, next time you climb up the stairs to tower, take an oil pot and lubricate all the pivot points as the squeaks are annoying. Thanks for the clip.
There wouldn't be room for more than a very small six, which bellfounders were not skilled at casting or indeed willing to cast until about forty years later. So, the small tower meant that tubular bells for chiming, which also did not need the skill nor the numbers of people to ring, was installed. Well, that is only speculation but seems the logical conclusion anyway
I like bells more but lets face it these things cost less they don't take up a lot of space they are interesting and its cool bc its like a huge grandfather clock!!!! And you don't half to use any strength to pull the rope when you ring bells its a lot more difficult
@teabag1231 Oi! That's me concentrating and trying not to fall of the precarious planks in the middle of the bells and not get tied up in the wires! :-O
They are made, as far as I know, of traditional "Bell Metal" which is a mainly copper/tin alloy, the proportions of which are trade secret and known only to the founders!
8spliced thank you! I'm in the middle of a project of making tubular bells and I'm trying to figure out which metal/alloy will produce a better church bell sound.
It’s nice to have a church that has tubular bells like these for a change even though I do really love bell ringing.
WOW...one of the most tuneful set of tubular bells ive heard!

The ropes must been having a very nice soft toch!

Make Westminster Chimes
I'm sure they might do that.
Yes that will be cool
very good. Ive never seen tubular bells before. I thought that the hammers hit the bells in the middle of the bell not at the top. Thanks!
It's sort of like a gigantic version of the chimes that an orchestra plays.

Can you sing the scale
So cool
They look like giant outdoor windchimes!
how thick are the bells? Is it like 1/8" or more?
Never measured them. They are hollow but I don't know the thickness of each, sorry!
The bells is 10kpl
@@8spliced this is interesting.

Pedrenso Get in touch with a bell hanger/founder, they'll give you better advice than I can
8spliced
thanks anyway!
@@8spliced I think it's usually 20% tin, 80% copper
Looks like an Ellacombe Chime mechanism. There were about 400 in England, invented by a clergyman who didn't like bellringers.
its a silly system. Would be much easier to have a key system like with carillions.
Ellacombe apparatus...
but on tubular bells
Is The Man Shown In The Video The Camera Man Of 8spliced?
Yes, it is me in the flesh making a rare appearance in my own video
8spliced Well, Then I Have To Say I've Subscribed To Your Channel And, You're Awesome!
8spliced can you make Westminster chimes next time
@@edimejia3611 you mean,...."play" them?...yes they could.
Classic
Nice video and everything. Forgive me, but if a church could afford real bells, why would they want anything like this?
Bad enough they use those electronic carrillon systems which is amplified through a speaker system.. placed in or outside of a bell tower.
@corporalcactus lol!
I go to the school here
Make Westminster

@8spliced I know :P
