Had these in middle school in 2009/10. Always something about the case design of these I liked. HAve been looking for one for years. Passed up a free one not too long ago sadly.
Excited for part II. I also recently dug out my first pentium 4. Its weird.. I didn't know I had it and I was looking for stuff to help with my del precision. Small world.
@@retrodude6215 I think that's for the later revision Pentium Ms which has the feature but doesn't present it to the OS for some reason. So bypassing the check will allow it to work.
Great video on this nice Dell! This is pretty close to home for me, as I got my start with a Pentium 4 system as well. I upgraded it with some RAM and a Radeon X1650 Pro and it ended up being a great little system.
I recently got a GX270 from the same listing LGR got his from. I just upgraded it with a floppy drive, a Sound Blaster Live!, and an FX 5200. The 5200 is t great, but it’s much better than the integrated graphics. I can always upgrade later. I also want to upgrade the CPU to one with hyperthreading at some point.
I adore this era of mini pcs. I have a pre-hp compaq model that came with a dedicated graphics card, of all the systems to have one lol, and its old enough to be *almost* a windows 2000 system instead of a windows xp system, so it did NOT run vista. Same kind of pci riser as in the video, and the same chipset as well. But my compaq packages it all differently. The riser goes up over the rear i/o shield instead of over the psu, and the whole thing is a bit less wide because of that.
I found one like this in my dad’s storage room, and HOLY HELL, it was interesting to open, a layout I’ve never seen! I almost want to see if I can put some more modern used parts in it to see if I can use it as a home server
I have a Dell Optiplex GX260 & a GX270! I'm working on the 270 & I know the maximum RAM is 4GB but I only have 1x 1GB DDR, & about 4x 512MB DDR RAM sticks so I could probably get it to 2.5GB RAM. A 500GB HDD will be more than enough space. I have an Intel Celeron CPU clocked at 3.20Ghz. I'm sure I have one of those type graphics cards that featured in your video, but I don't know how much RAM & if it has a low profile backplate, I might have to craft my own. I might be able to modify the existing blank plate. It has Windows XP Pro with SP3. 3 1\2 floppy drive, no working disc drive.
Still got one here, put ssd in there, and probably still usable for most things, lot of mods on internet to still use for instance You Tube. Ide not optimal , still due to access timings lot of extra speed can be gained.
I remembered my school days when papa brought this for me. This was my first PC. Highschool Memories. Golden Days.❤❤
Brings back memories of the Dimension 3100 I had growing up, great video!
Thanks!
Nice video sound blaster is so iconic
I have the SB Audigy and it is great! Way better than the onboard sound cards!

good job. waiting for other parts....
Takes me back, love it. Hehe, thank you.
Really enjoyed this video Cliff!

Hoping to get that out in the next couple of weeks. Been out of town the last few weekends (which is my limited video making time).
just stumbled across your channel love the content you gained a subscriber
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Man, the nostalgia! My first computer was a beat up Dell latitude d630, owned it since I was 6
I still have an old D600!
Dang! What os does it run? The last time I owned my d630 it dual booted win7 and 10

@@retrodude6215 Just XP for the nostalgia factor. The Pentium M in the system doesn't support XD bit so no W8+ support.
@@cliffscustoms Ok then. I thought that you could hack Win8 and 10 32bit onto a pentium M by bypassing a check

This was my first computer as well, and I just dug mine up. Excited for part 2, also thinking about picking up a geforce 6200 :)
I have to refilm part II unfortunately. I hope to do that this weekend.
@@cliffscustoms please do!

Truly a relic of a different era of computer design.
I did find mine at the side of the Road but mine dosent have the RAM and could i know what type of RAM uses? Pls
@@uomoprimitivoshould have 2 open slots that will take 2x2gb ddr2 sticks or 4 slots that will take 1gb ddr2 sticks but max will be 4gb ram

Waiting for part 2. Batocera vs (MX, Lubuntu, *YouNameIt*) Linux with Retropie, would be very nice.
i might actually get this exact pc for free this week
This guy should get sponsored by raid shadow legends
I have a dozen VPN companies vying for my sponsorship.
I found the same exact PC in the dump one day, along with plenty of its fallen brethren. The only difference is that its socket was 775.
RIP, must have been GX280s I believe those were socket 775 based.
@@cliffscustoms Yeah I think it was the 280. Couldn't upgrade to anything better unfortunately
Man… I sense blown capacitors from here 😂
If you're filming from a phone please disable the fake stereo audio
It doesn't work very well when you're talking behind the phone
@@4ngeldus739 No worries, in my newer videos I switched over to a wireless lapel mic.
Make the pc run windows 8
I think Windows 8 needs XD bit? Which those Northwood P4s don't have.
