  • In this video, I'll walk through how I'm hiding the liner around the edge of the pond, specifically the area around the waterfall where leaks are common.

Been looking everyday for an update. You have done an amazing job, excited to see the final product. 😊 Also, you mentioned you were going to do a separate video on the bog filter. I am curious to see it

So at the aquascape academy that I went too they said 4-6 inches above water level and you can leave one place for an emergency overflow an inch or 2 beneath that if your overflow can not keep up with rain fall and they said 12-16 inches for a first rough cut around the liner. Not 3 or 4 feet like some beginners think.

Also when finishing my ponds edging I had a CAC come and help me understand more on it cause I didn't understand how they hid the liner completely under dirt. They fold to the outside cause it's easier to control the top of the fold height while backfilling with dirt. Make all the dirt slope away from the pond holding you edging and you can put dirt right over you edging liner when it is touching large rocks. In-between 2 large rocks where there would be a small void/hole spray foam 1-2 inch lower then the edging and once dry you cover your foam with the dirt aswell.

@@patsaunders6035 How did you like the academy? Did you go just to learn for your own build, or are you trying to become certified?
That's a good tip on getting the dirt right up to the water's edge. I picked up a tip like that on one of the aquascape sandbox builds. I'm planning to put a bead of foam around the entire edge of the pond so that I can bring whatever material I want right up and over the edge.
I think the advice about "never cutting the liner" is from a fear that you'll cut it too short-which you can totally do if you're not careful-and the idea that maybe you'll want to make edging adjustments in the future and having as much extra liner as possible helps in that.

Im thinking about using the same liner, can you talk about how difficult it was to form to your hole and talk about your leak issues?

Yes. I’ll make a video about it before long. The liner is difficult to form to tight curves compared to EPDM, but I found it workable.
Long story short on leaks: appears to be minimal and I’m not sure if it’s my fault or the manufacturer’s.

Hi wanted to ask you how your liner is doing. Is it holding water with out leaching the water threw it..

I will do a video about the leaks in the near future. It is still leaching in some places, but I was able to patch many places and those patches seem to have worked. I have more investigation to do to figure out how much of my water loss is leaks vs evaporation, but I feel comfortable now saying that my leaks are very insignificant. Maybe not even worth worrying about it.
In all, I would still recommend RPE liners for certain types of builds, but I don't think I would recommend from the manufacturer I purchased from.
