  • www.vladtv.com - Logic opened up to VladTV about people confusing and questioning his race for as long as he can remember, but says that he doesn't let it get him down because he's comfortable with himself.
    The Maryland-born emcee is half African American and half White, but revealed that he's been mistaken for both races as well as for being Hispanic. Despite all the confusion about his race, Logic keeps a positive outlook on the subject and tells viewers to always be comfortable with themselves, because the situation can be difficult at times.
    Check out more of what Logic had to say in the above clip.

Did this tard just stumble across the video, read the title, clicked on it and before watching the video itself paused it and came down to the comments to literally reiterate what logic said in the video above? Human race isn’t gonna make it much farther than this boys, it’s a sinking ship.

    Why do people always mix up race, ethnicity and nationality!? Like, how hard is it to distinguish them? Dominican/Puerto Rican/Brazilian aren't races they are NATIONALITIES. Dominican Republic+ Puerto Rico + Brazil etc. are COUNTRIES. Eg. I was born in Jamaica but it would be dumb as hell for me to say i'm not black i'm Jamaican...like wtf?? My race = black, ethnicity = Afro-Caribbean, nationality = Jamaican.
    America fucked everything up. They call everyone who's mixed black, and everyone who's black African American. They give no fucks about the distinctions and now we ourselves seem to be confused...

    • @LadyCharity
      @LadyCharity 8 лет назад +8

      +Demo Lition Yes we are still confused lol! They just say their nationality which is not their race. If I say I am just American as a person of color I'd be laughed at lol..smh!! And I was rolling with Logic til he said that mess about Dominicans. Hispanic/Latino nor their respective nationalities are a race!!

    It's so frustrating when people insist that you are one of the two though... I'm comfortable with who I am, and people need to respect that... I find it to be really rude when, even after I say I identify as both races (which I do), they ask which one I think I am more, or they tell me which one they think I'm more of...

    I'm glad that he said that you have to be comfortable with who you are and really know it, so that others don't try to confuse you. I can so relate to that because I'm also mixed race like Logic, except my father is white instead. But like Logic, my ambiguous appearance leans more towards my European ancestry, and like him, I was always being sized up by people, mostly it was from black folks, because most white people didn't question my race, it's like they just saw a white person (or Hispanic, since that is my 'official' classification, even though it isn't a race, but when I check off my race or races, I use either "Other" or if the form provides more options, then I'll select all of my three races: white, black & Asian--in that order as well, largely due to my DNA percentages--I'm more white than black). Growing up as a child in the 70s and 80s black folks were always telling me that I needed to side with my black side and self-identify as black--certainly it was due to the "one drop rule" mentality, even though it was no longer a legal rule any longer. There were times in my youth that it used to confuse me and I would go back & forth with my racial identity, mostly to fit in....when I was around blacks, I'd say that I was black, and when I was around whites, I'd say that I was mixed or Latino. I was never really being dishonest since I was all of those things, but it felt false to side with only one side of my racial identity, so even though I was all of those races, I was also none of them exclusively. Now that I am a grown woman, I'll never let someone try to control or brainwash me into thinking that I'm something that I'm not any longer, just to suit their own agenda. I'm a mixed race, biracial Latina. No one can change that because I know who I am and I now love that I'm different and unique and I embrace and accept who I am now. It's the healthiest mindset to have in the end. We can't control who we are, just like we didn't ask to be born or choose what race we wanted to be. We are who we are and I'm glad more or more mixies are doing the same today! :)

Most of The Caribbean island latinos are mixed, south America is diverse however the majority who you'll encounter in the streets is predominantly brown people. Mexico and countries of central America are the only ones that still obtain a high percentage of native ancestry. Latin America is primarily defined and based off of NATIVE culture, there is to a small degree african influence to latin music culture but latin America ultimately assimilates to it's native american roots. If y'all are basing historical information off of white colonialism with the declaration of "latino is not a race but an ethnicity" then your argument is invalid. Latin America has and always will be a BROWN nation.

If you went by skin color then Aboriginal Australians would be black, Indians would be white and so would Western Asians which is obviously not true. Race isn't only skin color, but facial bone structure. My dad side of the family is Native American, Middle Eastern, Sub-Saharan African, North African, Hispanic/Latino, Scandinavian, Western and Eastern European. We are all different colors some come out white skinned, olive skinned, light skinned and brown skinned. But we are who we are and no matter how anyone thinks or treats us we are multiracial.

    • @aboemusic
      @aboemusic 7 лет назад +10

      "Mixed isn't a race"
      But that's a matter of perspective though.
      If we think about it logically, using an example in life which involves bringing two or more things together in order to create a new thing, then we can see that logically, it sort of does follow that mixed is a race.
      Let me explain:
      When a person bakes a cake, they use several ingredients, all of which are individual, unique items - flour, sugar, fat, etc. There is no connection between the items, other than fundamental ones such as they are all available on planet Earth (and were perhaps all bought in the same store).
      But, when we bring these individual items together to create a cake, we have created something new. Of course, the cake is still made up of its constituent parts, but it has taken on a new form. Hence why, when referring to a cake, we call it a cake, and not flour & sugar & fat etc.
      So, in this way, it logically follows that mixed race people, having been created by the coming together of other races and created through a series of complex processes are indeed like a cake and so are, in a way, a new race. It could be said that perhaps every mixed race person is themselves potentially a completely new race. The logistics of that, though, would make some aspects of life a little blurry and perhaps even complicated (medicine, for example).
      Anyway, that's just another way of looking at it.

    I know some biracial (black/white ppl) and they have all pretty much claimed their black side more. I had a best friend since middle school whose mother is Italian American and father just straight up black American. She always clung to her black side. It seemed to me she wanted to just be black, the way she acted. But her father was always sorta the pro-black type, so I guess he instilled a lot in her and her siblings. I think that may be the case in many biracial households. They are taught from the get-go where they stand in this country and the very divisive perception of race here in the states, so they learn to be proud "ethnic" ppl. Makes sense to me, but I also believe anyone who is mixed or biracial (not just black and white) has the right to indentify as they choose. No one has the right to tell them otherwise. They know what they are and they should be what they feel.👌🏼

It's not really a question I like getting asked or a statement like "I knew you had black in you".I get way awkward and don't know how to answer.

No 1/4 partially mixed guy that looks totally white goes around calling himself black except one with identity disorder trying to confirm he belongs in hiphop. People would still listen if he never said he was black. But thats beside the point. If I were him there's no way in hell I would've decided to be a full time rapper fulfilling the black stereotype. Would've started a business and got support from fellow whites who didnt know I was 1/4 mixed...you know how hard it is to be taken seriously as a black darkskin entrepreneur? People think you are either exclusively a "black business" for blacks or they question your competence HEAVILY.

    I love how the man says "don't sum me up" and the video proceeds to give examples how people of African ancestry relate to the concept of race depending on which part of the world they come from, and the comments on the video are the people who're trying to sum Logic up like "Deal with it, you're white" or "No, no, no, you're biracial". Let multi-ethnic people define themselves, just listen and respect the choice.

    I've listened to only some logic (like 4 songs) and I thought he was a change from most of the shit I've heard come out since 2010, but my friend likes him a lot because he thinks he's white and this kid only likes white rappers for some reason. My ancestry isn't as simple as a lot of people's, most people are either one ethnicity or 2, like "I'm a full Italian" or "my mom is Jewish and my dad is English so we celebrate both Christmas and Channukah n shit", I can't tie myself down to that though, I'm for sure mostly white (as in 78.75%), but when people ask me what my ETHNIC background is it's confusing, I say (from most ancestry to least) "I'm Irish, French Canadian, Iroquois, Norwegian (my namesake), English, Scottish, Dutch, Egyptian, Thai, and Swedish" and people say stfu ur a white boy or you look like a 'wasian' with my squinted eyes and light skin.

    In all honesty and at the risk of sounding clique and corny, race classification is really all hokey pokey and only skin deep literally there’s no major difference beyond that but human beings like to group themselves even amongst same races you’ll have different clans, tribes, families differentiating themselves even though they might be super similar and if traced back enough have similar ancestry, but hey that’s just what we do some of the pros and cons of higher intelligence we see things in patterns and like classification

I look very mixed I’m lighter than drake like Logic, but my hair is Afrocentric, so I look like a white boy with dreads and still mixed. I’m half Irish-scotch & half African American so African Americans already have a lot of white so I’m like 60% white lmao. It wasn’t a struggle growing up mixed, I grew up lucky, because it was a suburb in the United States so I got lucky seen as black by most but also white , however if I grew up in a ghetto I’d suspect I’d be treated very white.

      growin up mixed i really had the struggle of people asking what i am. My dad is black and my mom is white, but at first glance, you can't tell what I am. My hair is straight, wavy and curly and i do have a lighter skin tone. Me and my sister have similar facial features however her hair is very curly, so you can tell she's at least half black. Some people assume hispanic or philipino but when I tell them im mixed or black they're shocked. And i dont blame them because i can blend in in a lot of places. Like South America, southeast asia, central america, africa, etc. At this point i just say im mixed but it really depends who you were raised around. Ill be honest and say i grew up mostly around white people and white areas, but i don't feel white or black.
