I am honestly so surprised at the pushback against Chapter 3. After spending so long in an open world environment I really appreciated the steady forward progress, while also relaxing and slowing the pace a little bit, that a more traditional dungeon offered to me. The alternative is 20 hours of open world content which seems like would be really bad?
My thing with the mines was the pacing of it. It was a great change of pace in general and the character moments were good when they were there. But there was a decent amount of "dead air/space" in the section. I think if the Barret and Red section was right at the start when the team splits up instead of after the Turks fight it would have flowed better.
This game suffers from some severe pacing issues through and through , one good example is the Cait sith mission chapter , god i was so bored out of my ass i almost put down my controller , i usaually don't mind goofy stuff as long as it doesn't overstay its welcome which is the case here i feel the game could have done without some of its sections which are very uninspired also the padding in this game is a disease thats plaguing this game all over .
1:13:08 So this is actually incorrect. The alpha symbol next to a spell in the Commands menu is a spell that is being boosted by that character's folio loadout. Like Cloud with the Wind Current folio slot unlocked will also have boosted Wind materia damage.
Think the reason Barret shouts out to warn Rufus is cause he understood the implications. It puts the 3 talking to Rufus in immediate danger of having every gun turned on them potentially. Barret even says when he sees Yuffie "No not now" or something to that effect. He doesn't want to save Rufus, he's trying to stop Cloud and the girls from getting immediately offed by the entire army.

The Condor quest has a correct choice, that being the cow. You get a better photo if you pick the cow and it also improves your relationship with Tifa more.

Cloud sees sephiroth everytime there's someone with jenova cells. He's injected with S cells. So the robes, broden.. All triggers cloud seeing sephiroth. So the camera panning to broden is on purpose Also, I changed to dynamic difficulty because I'm finding the fights too easy. So it's weird seeing comments on reddit or RUclips that there's people struggling with normal difficulty. I think it's also because we had the whole of remake to practice. I did the summons with one down from full and it was not too bad
Regarding the whole Aerith extra knowledge thing just before minute 35, in Remake they explain while in her room/cell at Shinra HQ that every time the Whispers touch her they rip something from her knowledge, so we already knew that was happening. Now Rebirth is saying all her psychic extra knowledge is now gone which wasn’t clear in Remake
That Red XIII different voice is 100%, no doubt about it, still Max Mittleman, the same VA, just pitching up his voice. It's not Zack's VA or anyone else.
The lifespring tune was originally played in Cosmo Canyon, when you go up into Bugenhagen’s observatory. I was stopped in my tracks, and overwhelmed when I walked up to that crystal and heard that tune. I wasn’t expecting to hear my favourite song so early in rebirth.
Honestly its not just character interactions....some of the side quests are genuinely cool. Wayyyyyyy better than remakes. The Chadley stuff is the weak point but its optional.
The only problem I have with you and other people calling Chadley optional is that those are some of the coolest fights but they're so repetitive and get extremely bland because they never change the scenery in the “AR/VR” space, one of the several huge oversights in my opinion. It seemed like a cop-out to not put many resources into the summons, but I don't blame the team for it because I know they busted their asses making this game. I just found it disappointing. I wanted to have more Impact behind the summons and maybe add a little more lore to a short 10min quest getting them, but it is what it is.
@@Redroomjjgfd I think summons found in the actual world would have been way more impactful. In fact that's what I thought was gonna happen when we moved to the open world. The summons were copies in part 1 but my assumption was going into the open world wed finally get the REAL versions. Missed opportunity
Aerith already knew that Cloud "wasn't in Nibelheim 5 years ago" because she actively interrupts Tifa from confronting Cloud in front of everyone with her "I'm tired" moment, which would be terrible for the morale of the group. The tell is that she knows that Sephiroth isn't alive but around as opposed to having survived somehow.
Regarding Gilgamesh, yes supposedly it is the same Gilgamesh in all the games. For example in FF12 he even has the Buster Sword, Tidus' Brotherhood and Squall's Lionhart all with a kanji that means "replica" 😅

Ya those free elemental folios are really weak too, theres a reason it says it will enhance the actual corresponding spells, as you're best off using that. I think they're there if ur in a pinch with no SP or u dont have that spell equipped and still need to hit a weakness. I went from trying to get them all to just taking the ones I need to advance to things I want
It depends on the target. They don't do much against bosses but they are really good against mobs. One attack hits multiple, and attacks like Wind Current bring them right to your feet, allowing you to hit multiple with a follow up Braver.
Those abilities are spending i think only half of single ATB gauge (or they grant atb, not sure here) , so you can basically get next action almost immedietly after using those skills
A mix of comedy and serious moments is very much what the final fantasy series has always been and what makes them so fantastic. People who have only played 16 might be caught offguard going into most of the other titles in the series.
I re-listened to the Ch. 1 Demo discussion and man, I can't wait to listen to it again with this one right after. The chemistry between you four is amazing.
I genuinely feel bad about "spoiling" the beginning of Rebirth, Ben. I was worried you might have accidentally skipped over some crucial thing in the Deepest Dive! Apologies.
I really love how chapter 2 is its own little open world, then you go to chapter 3 and its a more linear dungeon similar to Remake, each chapter has felt different enough to keep things fresh.

Why would killing the mobs at the towers get old? The combat is awesome, how does a fight at the tower change that? Also the next "open zone" does get a change up

I saw a comment from someone on another video where they said they hoped the 7th infantry end up crewing the Highwind. I thought that was such a good idea.
I totally missed Roche signing the camera in my playthrough because I got the “stealing the show” trophy and won the award that Roche won in your playthrough. Luckily my nephew is playing the game and the next day I was over my brothers house and helping him with the game and he didn’t do the 3 star parade so I got to see that scene. Funny how if you do worse in the parade you get the better cutscene.
The alpha symbol next to a spell means it’s powered up by a character’s skill point ability. For example, wildfire allows someone to do a fire attack without having fire equipped or using mp, but also powers up your fire spell if you do happen to have the materia equipped
So glad to be back and following along to a Deepest Dive! One thing- regarding the alpha symbol next to spells, those as far as I know aren't related to elemental effects on your weapons, it appears when you purchase the corresponding elemental ability in the folios and just symbolizes a power boost your normal spells are going to get. So if you unlock the fire elemental ability in the folios, your fire spell will from then on be strengthened if you have it equipped.
Recommendation for everyone thats comfortable from combat from the first game: change off Normal to the Dynamic difficulty if youre looking for some level of challenge (especially in boss fights). It takes a while for the game to see how youre playing, but once it knows it makes the game so much better (Im on Chapter 9, no spoilers but yeah way better). The bosses especially are a lot more fun when you have to put some effort into really exploiting their weakness and switching between the 3 party members
You definitely hear the broadcast in Kalm too. So the tornado happened in both. What DID confuse me is that the Zack timeline mentioned a SOLDIER working with avalanche, but it couldn’t be cloud or zack based on them just showing up in Midgar. Its weird but i assume will be explored later
Idk if it’s hard but general chapter time stamps would be great on these. I know you jump around but would still be good. I’m coming back after ending chapter 4 and looking for where I left off. Ben is one of the best gaming commentators, as always.
Barret tried to stop the assassination because Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith were seconds away from making a deal that would get Shinra off their backs so they could focus on Sephiroth. Also, even if they killed Rufus, then Scarlet or Heidigger or Palmer take his place and that's probably not any better (in fact, arguably even worse). I'm honestly not sure how you missed that plot point, the pretty much said so outright.
He didn't know about the pardon deal but his whole team is in harm's way surrounded by an army. It’s by pure luck Rufus didn’t order them gunned down on his way out after Yuffie’s attempt on his life.
I'm behind but have been loving the game, the amount of side content is a bit much but i haven't felt like not doing the tasks. My favorite song so far is that stamp theme throughout that side mission, it took me awhile to actually tell it was stamps theme too lol. Reminded me of something i might hear in katamari damaci lol
If you guys are 100% the zones u should def switch to Dynamic so u dont out level everything super hard. Honestly even on dynamic a lot of fights are still pretty easy.
Re: the synergy abilities You can spam them but if I remember correctly, it does say that using them multiple times in a row dilutes their impact so it pays off more to mix it up rather than spam them.
My understanding for why Barret was trying to stop yuffie was that he didn’t want cloud aerith and tifa to be implicated or blamed, or possibly killed in any ensuing crossfire if she was successful.
If you had watched Tim Roger’s video series on the translation of Final Fantasy VII, you would know what’s going on with the voice Aerith is talking to in the room with Red XIII.
57:49 This is why I am disappointed in the decision to not have anyone on the panel who never played the original. That's one of the things I enjoyed about the Deepest Dive for Remake is hearing what Kyle and JeffM had to say.

@minnmax Switch to dynamic if you all are exploring the regions more fully. It's still pretty easy but enemies do last a bit longer than normal. It's definitely more of a proper normal like part 1.
I'm just finishing Chapter 4 and so far... I'm really not into the open world stuff. Feels like I'm checking boxes off a map rather than enjoying a fulfilling story. I hope it picks up soon because I'm getting bored

I understand Chadley is a joke on the surface, but his relationship with Cloud is narratively symbolic of Sephiroth. In Remake, Chadley said he was able to gain free will and break free from Hojo's control thanks to Cloud. Similarly, Sephiroth was able to break free from Jenova's control thanks to Cloud.
I'm glad they mentioned characters in a party having bonds and connections with each other and not just the main character. I really think that's what makes me care about them even more than I already did!
I don't even enjoy the game that much (sorry, Ben) but love the energy and passion of this crew, and the format of the Deepest Dive! Excellent work y'all.

Haven't Cloud, Barrett, and Aerith all only known each other for around 4 days at this point? You guys and the game keep portraying them as best friends but unless I'm remembering wrong, they're basically still strangers.
If I'm not mistaken, by the time you finish Chapter 4 it's probably been a little over a week for Cloud knowing Barret and a few days that they've known Aerith. A couple of days total for Red. Remake takes place over 4 days, so far Rebirth has had 2 more full days: - Night 1: Bombing first reactor - Day 2: Doing merc stuff, talking with the gang in the bar - Night 2: Going topside with Jessie, Wedge and Biggs - Day 3: Bombing second reactor, Cloud meets Aerith and hangs out in sector 5, Yuffie meets with Sonon and HQ - Night 3: Wall Market, Train Graveyard, Yuffie finds Deepground, plate falls - Day 4: Corneo stuff part two, going topside - Night 4: Saving Aerith, escaping, fighting Sephiroth - Morning 5: End of Remake - Night 5: Cloud recounts his past - Day 6: Waking up in Kalm - Night 6: Sleeping in Junon Inn
Traumatic experiences bond people involved in them very quickly. The situation with the Sector 7 plate and fleeing Shinra HQ I would say qualifies. So yes, while they arent great childhood friends like Cloud and Tifa, they all share a common goal and just went through the craziest 4 days most of them have ever experienced with eachother. Its scientifically proven that makes for fast friends.
A little disappointed that Ben is so sure Wutai is in the NEXT game. I’m sure he knows something I don’t, but I was hoping we would get there near the end of this one. Also, Roche got an award??? Is it because none of these guys did all three-star formations at the parade? I’m pretty sure I got the award, and I was a bit confused about how that was different from the commendation.
Yes, there is the commendation which you have to get because of the story, and the award from Heidigger which is separate. The award is easier to get if you do all three-star (more difficult) formations. Heck, it might even be exclusive to that, I'm not sure.
The devs have confirmed in interviews that they moved Wutai further up and we wont be going there until game 3. They said they just couldnt fit it in while also expanding it to the extent that they want to. Im fine with it, means more to play for the next game and better backstory and character moments for Yuffie, who in my opinion needs them to make her more likeable.
How do you not get trained by the last three generations of consoles to immediately stand still when some dialogue like that comes out of nowhere? (mostly cos in half the games that exist any interaction will cut it off and you’ll miss out on important story) the idea of throwing yourself into the battle before she finishes her pre-battle description is alien to me.
@@sonicsean34Her dialogue isn't interesting enough to wait around and listen to it. I skip all the Chadley and Mai stuff. I'm here to watch the party interact with each other, and not her to have everyone stand around ignoring everything Chadley says. (Which is Square Enix biggest mistake. They should have had the party reacting to what he was saying.) There's so much world building that's naturally integrated into characters talking to each other, but Chadley and Mai are basically talking to you, the player, and not them.
Count how many times Ben says “I’m such a sucker for” Also, I’ll say it again, Ben cannot see this series clearly. Any criticism and he is quick to push back. Nothing happens in this game for 20 hours and yet, I’m enjoying it.
It is weird how many qualifications you put on this. How can this be a thorough discussion of ff7 rebirth without talking about the original. If someone doesn't want to know what happens in the original than they shouldn't watch this. That game has been out for over 20 years. It makes zero sense to not link the two.
The majority of players are starting with the remake and skipping the old retro version. "Over 20 years" is irrelevant, because nobody goes back to play every single notable game in history in chronological order. And some people are just beginning to play games now. It doesn't make sense to confuse the conversation with alternate timelines and potentially spoil the rest of the remakes when we're discussing THIS game, and playing together in chunks. It's the ideal solution to have a bonus video for people who want to compare with the original. Everybody wins.

Turns out it not only “would be nice”, but “it IS nice” that they clearly put the chapter stopping points and dates for those sections in the description. minnmax recently put up a video about experiencing life with aphantasia on their channel. It may be a fun watch for you. It deals with how different people digest and understand information differently. Some hear inner monologues with what they perceive as their own voice when they are thinking, others hear a random disembodied voice or voices, while others feel they are reading their thoughts as a form of text. It can be fascinating to see how different humans end up experiencing our shared world through endless variables. Take, for example, this video and its description. 14,000 people have viewed this video. Over 100 of those people decided to comment on the video. A majority of the comments were meant to add to the conversation or simply highlight moments in the over 3 hour video. Others decided to make a fun joke about the game we are all discussing. Of all those experiences we are sharing, one person decided to comment that they couldn’t find information that everyone else experienced as being clearly displayed. Fascinating. What a truly unique and remarkable way to experience the world. That’s how I will choose to interpret this comment. A lesser person may just view it as “1 in 14,000 people like lying for attention”.
Is there any explanation as to why none of us have our weapons anymore since this game takes place right after the end of the first one? I'm fine when sequels do that, but prefer some kind of explanation for it, even if it is as stupid as they just accidentally left them at the last rest stop. Something!

I have zero problems with a protagonist being moody and serious. I can relate to him. It brings necessary balance to the group
I totally missed Roche signing the camera in my playthrough because I got the “stealing the show” trophy and won the award that Roche won in your playthrough.
Luckily my nephew is playing the game and the next day I was over my brothers house and helping him with the game and he didn’t do the 3 star parade so I got to see that scene.
Funny how if you do worse in the parade you get the better cutscene.
The alpha symbol next to a spell means it’s powered up by a character’s skill point ability. For example, wildfire allows someone to do a fire attack without having fire equipped or using mp, but also powers up your fire spell if you do happen to have the materia equipped

So glad to be back and following along to a Deepest Dive! One thing- regarding the alpha symbol next to spells, those as far as I know aren't related to elemental effects on your weapons, it appears when you purchase the corresponding elemental ability in the folios and just symbolizes a power boost your normal spells are going to get. So if you unlock the fire elemental ability in the folios, your fire spell will from then on be strengthened if you have it equipped.

Recommendation for everyone thats comfortable from combat from the first game: change off Normal to the Dynamic difficulty if youre looking for some level of challenge (especially in boss fights).
It takes a while for the game to see how youre playing, but once it knows it makes the game so much better (Im on Chapter 9, no spoilers but yeah way better). The bosses especially are a lot more fun when you have to put some effort into really exploiting their weakness and switching between the 3 party members

You definitely hear the broadcast in Kalm too. So the tornado happened in both. What DID confuse me is that the Zack timeline mentioned a SOLDIER working with avalanche, but it couldn’t be cloud or zack based on them just showing up in Midgar. Its weird but i assume will be explored later

Barret tried to stop the assassination because Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith were seconds away from making a deal that would get Shinra off their backs so they could focus on Sephiroth. Also, even if they killed Rufus, then Scarlet or Heidigger or Palmer take his place and that's probably not any better (in fact, arguably even worse). I'm honestly not sure how you missed that plot point, the pretty much said so outright.
He didn't know about the pardon deal but his whole team is in harm's way surrounded by an army. It’s by pure luck Rufus didn’t order them gunned down on his way out after Yuffie’s attempt on his life.

I'm behind but have been loving the game, the amount of side content is a bit much but i haven't felt like not doing the tasks.
My favorite song so far is that stamp theme throughout that side mission, it took me awhile to actually tell it was stamps theme too lol. Reminded me of something i might hear in katamari damaci lol
If you guys are 100% the zones u should def switch to Dynamic so u dont out level everything super hard. Honestly even on dynamic a lot of fights are still pretty easy.
Re: the synergy abilities
You can spam them but if I remember correctly, it does say that using them multiple times in a row dilutes their impact so it pays off more to mix it up rather than spam them.
Also controversial opinion, I like Chadley! I think he’s neat lol
My understanding for why Barret was trying to stop yuffie was that he didn’t want cloud aerith and tifa to be implicated or blamed, or possibly killed in any ensuing crossfire if she was successful.

Switch to dynamic if you all are exploring the regions more fully. It's still pretty easy but enemies do last a bit longer than normal. It's definitely more of a proper normal like part 1.

I understand Chadley is a joke on the surface, but his relationship with Cloud is narratively symbolic of Sephiroth. In Remake, Chadley said he was able to gain free will and break free from Hojo's control thanks to Cloud. Similarly, Sephiroth was able to break free from Jenova's control thanks to Cloud.

Haven't Cloud, Barrett, and Aerith all only known each other for around 4 days at this point? You guys and the game keep portraying them as best friends but unless I'm remembering wrong, they're basically still strangers.
If I'm not mistaken, by the time you finish Chapter 4 it's probably been a little over a week for Cloud knowing Barret and a few days that they've known Aerith. A couple of days total for Red.
Remake takes place over 4 days, so far Rebirth has had 2 more full days:
- Night 1: Bombing first reactor
- Day 2: Doing merc stuff, talking with the gang in the bar
- Night 2: Going topside with Jessie, Wedge and Biggs
- Day 3: Bombing second reactor, Cloud meets Aerith and hangs out in sector 5, Yuffie meets with Sonon and HQ
- Night 3: Wall Market, Train Graveyard, Yuffie finds Deepground, plate falls
- Day 4: Corneo stuff part two, going topside
- Night 4: Saving Aerith, escaping, fighting Sephiroth
- Morning 5: End of Remake
- Night 5: Cloud recounts his past
- Day 6: Waking up in Kalm
- Night 6: Sleeping in Junon Inn
Traumatic experiences bond people involved in them very quickly. The situation with the Sector 7 plate and fleeing Shinra HQ I would say qualifies. So yes, while they arent great childhood friends like Cloud and Tifa, they all share a common goal and just went through the craziest 4 days most of them have ever experienced with eachother. Its scientifically proven that makes for fast friends.
A little disappointed that Ben is so sure Wutai is in the NEXT game. I’m sure he knows something I don’t, but I was hoping we would get there near the end of this one.
Also, Roche got an award??? Is it because none of these guys did all three-star formations at the parade? I’m pretty sure I got the award, and I was a bit confused about how that was different from the commendation.
Yes, there is the commendation which you have to get because of the story, and the award from Heidigger which is separate. The award is easier to get if you do all three-star (more difficult) formations. Heck, it might even be exclusive to that, I'm not sure.
The devs have confirmed in interviews that they moved Wutai further up and we wont be going there until game 3. They said they just couldnt fit it in while also expanding it to the extent that they want to. Im fine with it, means more to play for the next game and better backstory and character moments for Yuffie, who in my opinion needs them to make her more likeable.
You have to score above 100k to get the award. I missed it by less than 100 points or something because I didn't realize blue meant hold at first.

How do you not get trained by the last three generations of consoles to immediately stand still when some dialogue like that comes out of nowhere? (mostly cos in half the games that exist any interaction will cut it off and you’ll miss out on important story) the idea of throwing yourself into the battle before she finishes her pre-battle description is alien to me.

I skip all the Chadley and Mai stuff. I'm here to watch the party interact with each other, and not her to have everyone stand around ignoring everything Chadley says.
(Which is Square Enix biggest mistake. They should have had the party reacting to what he was saying.)
There's so much world building that's naturally integrated into characters talking to each other, but Chadley and Mai are basically talking to you, the player, and not them.

It is weird how many qualifications you put on this.
How can this be a thorough discussion of ff7 rebirth without talking about the original. If someone doesn't want to know what happens in the original than they shouldn't watch this. That game has been out for over 20 years. It makes zero sense to not link the two.
The majority of players are starting with the remake and skipping the old retro version. "Over 20 years" is irrelevant, because nobody goes back to play every single notable game in history in chronological order. And some people are just beginning to play games now.
It doesn't make sense to confuse the conversation with alternate timelines and potentially spoil the rest of the remakes when we're discussing THIS game, and playing together in chunks.
It's the ideal solution to have a bonus video for people who want to compare with the original. Everybody wins.

Is there any explanation as to why none of us have our weapons anymore since this game takes place right after the end of the first one? I'm fine when sequels do that, but prefer some kind of explanation for it, even if it is as stupid as they just accidentally left them at the last rest stop. Something!
Not really a true explanation but I will say, the weapons show up again a bit later in the game during a specific sidequest.
