Thank you for doing this guy ... I will try these out. Here's hoping these settings will work for me. Movie Mode - @2:22 Standard Mode - @5:15 HDR Source - @6:45
Thanks for this just got the tv 2 days ago and these are the 3rd ones I've tried, by far the best, hd picture now just about perfect. All I changed was backlight to 8. Using movie mode settings. Keep it up appreciated. Tv is class and 4K test videos on RUclips are unbelievable just need to wait for more content , well worth the money
Thank you SO much for this video. Nothing I found helped me set up for HDR mode for this TV. So I was always following calibration recommendations from other sites and setting backlight to 4 or 5 and wondering why my HDR movie was so dark I could only just see it! Now all my movies look absolutely stunning in HDR. So thanks again!
Third time calibrating and this video helped me overall set three modes instead of just one. So I'll try these new settings on my Samsung KS8000 8 Series 65"
This Tv received a 1231.1 update in late 2018 it would be nice to see you revisit the ks8000 as videos say the new firmware make the ks8000 amazingly better than newer 2018 4k tvs
These are great settings if you can't afford to get your tv Calibrated. For the people saying these suck you need to get off torch mode on the tv only then you will appreciate the colors and depth a calibrated setting like these will give. Thanks avforums!
My question is when go through the HDR settings, you skip the white balance settings, but for day and night, you have r-gain +9 and b-gain -9. So is white balance for HDR the same as for day/night? or is it 0 for everything?
Is there a recommended general setting that will work well for all programing to essentially set and forget? My wife won't go into the settings to constantly change them for day, night, movie, sports, etc. Alternatively, is there a way to configure then save setting modes say for day, night, movie, etc without having to drill down and change the individual componet settings each time? Thanks.
Okay nice settings at daytime thx But what should i Do if i wanna watch a uhd hdr movie or playing an hdr game like forza Horizon 3 the screen is Not even dark But barely Black Until i Put dynamic contrast on high than i i van See everything But the picture looks completely Different Any Tipps for me???
What settings do you recommend for HDR on Netflix movies? ive tried movie mode but the movie seems so dark but when i turn up home i can see backlight is turned all up. what am i missing? why cant i have good britghtness and colors for HDR content? :/ :)
Yeah, he just kind of skipped that, so I'm assuming it is the same. If you go into that setting on an HDR source you'll see the values are the same by default.
am I missing something but for some reason my ps4 pro looks better on hdr mode instead of game mode, is there a reason why? I mean honestly it's night and day, not only does it look awesome but it also runs smoothly in hdr mode.
Are you sure you turned on the HDR for your PS4 Pro's HDMI port? See Digital Foundry's video from today's date on how to set up this Samsung for gaming.
I calibrate my TV as a hobby, but how exactly do you calibrate HDR? because when I calibrate my TV i use Rec 709. when I adjust 10p gray scale in SDR too so does this effect HDR?
BTW, game mode what about Color Space - Auto or Native. I am using Auto as Native is quite vivid, plus once HDR games are available as stated earlier it should be Auto as it then tracks the colour space correctly and automatically. Thank you.
Thank you for this video although I am confused as you have also put up settings for this TV which are slightly different to this. Which is best please?
lufccharlie Sorry I don't understand what you mean? What settings I've used are you meaning? Steve Withers has put two videos for the UE55KS8000 but they are both slightly different
Went with factory default. I went with some minor adjustments, that i found on you tube. One thing they all have in common is movie mode is definitely the best so start there.
Jason Ludwick it just takes bit of time for your eyes to get used to it. Calibrated screens can not be beaten as the meet the industry standards, it's just that you may Never seen what a true picture looks like when it calibrated
Great video and thanks very much for posting it. I haven't been able to find out on any forums but when you make the adjustments you are describing, do they "save" on to those settings so you only have to do this once? I would obviously prefer not having to change all these settings every time I change between Movie and Standard etc?
It was already very accurate without needing to use the 10-point and copying such fine calibration controls from one TV to another is largely pointless.
During SDR content and increasing contrast levels between 86-100 I am noticing a pink tint during white test patterns. This is not the case during HDR content however, maybe a little pink past contrast level 95 but not a big deal. Is that the reason you mentioned "clipping" (you also see a pink tint?) and have settled for contrast level 85 during SDR content? And for HDR content you left Dynamic Contrast: Off. Why was that? I feel it boosts the brightness and behaves differently and not in such a negative way compared to using it during SDR content. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks again!
I just purchased the Samsung UN65KS8000 its the 4k UHD, here in the USA at Best Buy. If I were to incorporate these setting would I do more bad than good.
Is there any possible way that you can do a video for the Samsung UN65KS8000. 4k SUHD tv. Or point me in the direction to get some similar help. I've been messing with it on my own but have made things worse it feels.
SDR only uses 'Standard' Definition Range rather than 'High' Definition Range. HDR is capable of more depth and richness of colors and contrast due to the physical construction of the TV. Samsung assumes that with dynamic contrast you want to have the broad range of contrast that HDR is capable of. An SDR source isn't encoded to tell the display enough information to deliver the same spectrum in a way that wouldn't potentially make the image worse.
Hy.. How this model manage motion, especially micro stutter? On flatpanelshd, they said that this tv suffer from stuttering, and ther is no way to remove it. Any thoughts?
Hi its a great Video but can you me help? i have the UE55KS8080 and i need the perfect Setting for PS4 Pro Game mode. This is so complicate fore me to find a good Setting for play Shooter Games and good Collor mode.
I know you were excited to show us how the HDR+ weakens the color when on. However, When you turned Game Mode to ON it did the same thing. Are you sure that is the best setting?
I got the same Tv since almost a year now and i calibrated back then. Now i used your setting and i think its way too dark and way to red. White ist more yellowish than a real white tone .
Also if I use an XBOX One S as my UHD Blu Ray Player that HDMI input is the same as my cable box, is it ok to have UHD HDMI turned on even for regular TV watching?
Vichar B. My thoughts also. I noticed after updating 9000 from new most of the recommended settings were already applied. AVForums did mention colour tracking wasn't working right hence native suggestion but it may be fixed post update and Auto is ok to use now? Clarification would be nice
The Auto Colour Space setting normally delivers a very accurate performance, so using the Custom setting would add little value. Since the KS9000 review, Samsung have informed us that the Auto is the best option for HDR. They said in Auto the TV will track to the incoming signal, which is why we now recommended that setting instead.
Thank you! I'm having issues with the smart led setting, there's a vertical band of light that appears when I have it enabled and when there's a light object on screen, such as the Playstation logo and the screen is black
LittleMopeHead Hey! To fix this, go into the sources and when you hover over your current source (PC for example) Press up and then press edit. once you do just change the device to bluray player and it'll be fixed.
There no correct setting in everything , is a matter of taste , i setup my tv so many times for a lot of years , i'm saying the truth , so many times for many years that i get used to all the setting posibles in my tv , even i calibrate the settings with the same model or the same series , and in the end i realise that it look the same to me , the only difference is the contrast , colors ,edge enhancement . blacklight and tint , my tv is 1080p and no matter what kind of setup i used , is always gonna be 1080p , the resolutions are the real quality of the screen , the setting of the tv are for me , only effects ,the same with audio ,thas mi opinion and that is my experience , with my obsession with image quality.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Everyone always puts Sharpness to zero? Its say in the description that the closer to 100 the sharper the image. So why wouldn't you put it to 100?
Sharpness controls actually alter the image by "adding" a false/fake edge around objects on the screen by increasing the high frequencies (think of the treble control on a stereo, which does a similar thing in audio). That's bad if you want a natural looking picture. "0" or minimum for sharpness is correct for many TV's although some TV's actually "cut" high frequencies at "0" setting, making the picture unnaturally soft. You should put up a sharpness test pattern on your screen and experiment for yourself if your goal is to have as natural image as possible.
sharpness controls the amount of light that is let through the boarder of the object. if the object is finely grated light to dark grey line alternation, the object will appear brighter with a higher sharpness. higher sharpness causes 'graininess' because the more light let through on the boarder will drastically show the pixel shape
Ok so I set up daytime settings and then HDR settings. When I switch between HDR source and non-HDR source the settings change but the viewing mode does not (Movie/Standard). Any ideas anyone?
Every panel is different to another. So, these settings have nothing to do with the best settings. You always need to calibrate every single display. I'm asking myself why they don't say that during this guide. Professionals would suggest that very important information.
Thank you for doing this guy ... I will try these out. Here's hoping these settings will work for me.
Movie Mode - @2:22

Super cute dog! Upload a vid of him pls
Can you guys help me calibrate this for gaming?
gemini duece +2
eja35oz ???
depends wich game, general use game mode, reduce de input lag
Copy the daytime settings into game mode. That should do it.
Okay nice settings at daytime thx

Hey. What are the 2 point WB settings on the HDR mode? Same as in the nightime/daytime setting? Thank you
Yeah, he just kind of skipped that, so I'm assuming it is the same. If you go into that setting on an HDR source you'll see the values are the same by default.
if possible I would love to see a calibration when in game mode..the colors seem very plain
color space native on game mode.
dani bruens unless you're on HDR games. Native will look worse than auto when playing HDR games
Copy the daytime settings into game mode. That should do it.
Do you still recommend this setting for latest update 1208?
I will be getting this TV for my ps4 pro, should I use these settings or game mode?
game mode
Truman Steemers carpet cleaning it's fine on movie.
See Digital Foundry's video from today's date on how to set up this Samsung for gaming.
Yes, this reduces the latency/input lag.
Game mode 100%. For hdr you need backlight 20 contrast 100 dynamic contrast off. the rest is up to you
What are the settings when using Standard with HDR? Is there a reason only Movie with HDR settings are mentioned?
am I missing something but for some reason my ps4 pro looks better on hdr mode instead of game mode, is there a reason why? I mean honestly it's night and day, not only does it look awesome but it also runs smoothly in hdr mode.
Are you sure you turned on the HDR for your PS4 Pro's HDMI port? See Digital Foundry's video from today's date on how to set up this Samsung for gaming.
hi what would u suggest for pc use possibly photoshop use on this tv..? thanks in advance for your reply.
What kind of hdmi cable do you use? And does the brand matter?
I calibrate my TV as a hobby, but how exactly do you calibrate HDR? because when I calibrate my TV i use Rec 709. when I adjust 10p gray scale in SDR too so does this effect HDR?

nice settings. but why don't yougive more advance calibration? like where is 10-point white and all colour settings.
The two point control gave a very accurate greyscale, so there was no reason to use the ten point and the Auto colour space was also very accurate.
AVForums un78ks9800 is full array back lighting. The new qled 2017 are Edge-lit LED. Which one is better? I want to buy one.
Thank you for this video although I am confused as you have also put up settings for this TV which are slightly different to this. Which is best please?
morpheus20170 what settings please?
lufccharlie Sorry I don't understand what you mean? What settings I've used are you meaning? Steve Withers has put two videos for the UE55KS8000 but they are both slightly different
Is this the KS8000 EU model? or the KS9000 US model? as I understand the US KS9000 is in fact a KS8000 in Europe
what settings should i use to get the best picture in game mode in a dark room SDR and HDR?
for the record I set up my ks8500 with this same calibration and it is so dark. I don't know if it's the difference between us and uk
Jason Ludwick me too, what did you end up doing? I can't stand the darkness
Went with factory default. I went with some minor adjustments, that i found on you tube. One thing they all have in common is movie mode is definitely the best so start there.

Fantastic, thanks for the reply.
Daniel E
hi, also it works with eu65ks8000?
What about 10 point white balance (Movie mode)? You bypassed that. How come? Thanks for the video.
It was already very accurate without needing to use the 10-point and copying such fine calibration controls from one TV to another is largely pointless.

do the uk and usa model of this tv have different I'm getting this tv but it has different stand
Yes Samsung use different model numbers between the US and the UK.
I just purchased the Samsung UN65KS8000 its the 4k UHD, here in the USA at Best Buy. If I were to incorporate these setting would I do more bad than good.
Cant wait to get my KS8090 🙊
what is the white balance 2 point for hdr
Why is gaming mode greyed out? It is on my set as well
Why did you leave HDR at its default settings?
Is there any possible way that you can do a video for the Samsung UN65KS8000. 4k SUHD tv. Or point me in the direction to get some similar help. I've been messing with it on my own but have made things worse it feels.
You could try the settings in this video on the 65KS8000 and see what you think, most of them are fairly general.
do i leave game mode on when i am not gaming?
When HDR content is on dynamic contrast on makes the image so much brighter. Why does it behave differently with SDR & HDR?
SDR only uses 'Standard' Definition Range rather than 'High' Definition Range. HDR is capable of more depth and richness of colors and contrast due to the physical construction of the TV. Hi, plz can you show calibration for Samsung ru7100? Thanks
Hy.. How this model manage motion, especially micro stutter? On flatpanelshd, they said that this tv suffer from stuttering, and ther is no way to remove it. Any thoughts?
We didn't experience any problems with micro stutter or we would have mentioned it.
so my TV Europe KS8090 is the same like in this video??? You tested a UK Europe version?
Yes I think they're the same model.
Daniel Fischer bist du zufrieden mit dem tv ? 😀

AVForums is suppose GB based?
Also if I use an XBOX One S as my UHD Blu Ray Player that HDMI input is the same as my cable box, is it ok to have UHD HDMI turned on even for regular TV watching?
Yes it's fine.
Hi would these settings be fine to use on the UA KS8005 tv?
Australian model thanks in advance
Hi can used these setting for ks8500?
There's no harm in trying them out.
What about Color Space settings? Should I use then the ones from KS9000 video. Also, HDR on KS9000 you state Native while here as Auto, why?
Vichar B. My thoughts also. I noticed after updating 9000 from new most of the recommended settings were already applied. AVForums did mention colour tracking wasn't working right hence native suggestion but it may be fixed post update and Auto is ok to use now? Clarification would be nice
seems to me auto color space only works on hdr+ mode. other then that I run native on movie mode and game mode.

They said in Auto the TV will track to the incoming signal, which is why we now recommended that setting instead.
any settings you recommend for sports?
You can use the same settings but you may want to experiment with Auto Motion Plus.
Can this be applied to USA model also, the UN55KS8000?
I think that model equates to the KS7000 in Europe, so check out the settings video for that review.
AVForums I can't find a settings video for that model from you
When connecting TV's to PC settings will be different
can this setting also be use on ks8500?
No harm in trying and see what you think.
Would this calibration work with the UN65KS8500?
No harm in trying and seeing what you think.
Will these work well for the 65" KS8000?
Yes, the majority of the settings are just as applicable to the 65" model.
can i use these for game mode too?
Yes you can.
Thank you! I'm having issues with the smart led setting, there's a vertical band of light that appears when I have it enabled and when there's a light object on screen, such as the Playstation logo and the screen is black
I have a picture if you want to see my issue
These settings are way too dim for me
They're not too dim, they're accurate. If you don't like accurate colours, then that's fine, but it's definitely the correct way to see things.
Tomiply it's called his opinion. Jeesh
Each TV might need a little adjustment from 1 to the next even though they are the same model
I think this is EU version which is KS 9000 for US version. I don't know why Samsung did their naming like that. It really confusing.
US KS9500= EU KS9000
US KS9000= EU KS8000
US KS8500= EU KS7500
US KS8000= EU KS7000
houtty21 thanks
dose it work for 8500 serie??
No harm in trying and see what you think.
Helpful ,,Thank You
I just want my picture to show deeper blacks because I hate when it looks Smokey or grayish when a scene in the dark is on
In that case, use a gamma of 2.4 in a dark room.
Man. It's too bad TVs are now so complicated to set-up.
Someone help me please. My Picture Mode settings are limited for some reason. I only have STANDARD and DYNAMIC. No MOVIE mode, etc. Please help!
LittleMopeHead Hey! To fix this, go into the sources and when you hover over your current source (PC for example) Press up and then press edit. once you do just change the device to bluray player and it'll be fixed.
Thank you! That fixed it. I had the HDMI 1 as PC before. I heard if you switch the input PC to Game(?), it should fix it too.
This is my tv .but don't forget it's the 9000 in America for some reason
trust me on the 75" if I have movie mode and backlight 5 all I can see is flesh and folks teeth. must be model dependant
Why every time the sharpness setting on zero????
Jim Banville never knew that, thanks.

i prefer between 20 and 40

Hi, did you watch the video and specifically the disclaimer at 00:23 where we mention exactly those points? Thanks for taking the time to comment.
My fault... I'm sorry :)
lol
Worst setting . Horrible
do u have setting for q7f?
