Oh man. This video would have been so much more effective if the audio was recorded in STEREO. The room acoustics play a big part in the sound of pianos, and the fact that the pianos were recorded (or at least mixed) in mono, we lose the sense of "being there."
definitely, plus the compression algorithm of youtube is quite bad in and of itself, both video and audio. i'd imagine that being there in person would have far more impact. that being said, i loved the different sounds of his different pianos. they were beautiful
they sound so clear and crisp and ethereal and airy can you imagine playing one of Joe Hisaishi's (one of Studio Ghibli's famouse composers) pieces on it? it'd be like heaven on earth.
That's in part because of the style of what he's playing, but mostly because the strings are so long and the resonance so big that the silencers can't work properly, so the sound of the notes kinda melt together a bit. Really cool effect, older pianos sound a bit like this
Agree with Alex. Also, there is a lack of overtones. Just one nicely clear note. Very different. Very, very nice. Personally I like it and can see it in serious concerts. But a regular piano still beats the richness and depth. It is a new and valid musical instrument that time will determine if it will be part of the repertoire.

I know its supposed to be about the large piano, but the Small piano stole my heart and I want one of those. The softness and delicate way he played makes that my favorite beacuse it sounds like magic
@@bg357wg yeah, I purchased it and it doesn’t sound as good as I was hoping for. I’m sure it sounds wonderful in person but coming through my daw it sounds mediocre.
The first two pianos have an almost flute-like sound. Delicate and pure. BUT unlike the Alexander Piano - you use wrapped strings in the bass. He sought to learn what the sound of open strings would be like and it is fantastic. More like a standard piano, true, but incredible bass that stands out regardless of what you are playing. But that upright of your is amazing as well. It does have a beautiful sound to it and the bass is rich as well.
You can play these at home right now! Una Corda and that giant piano has been sampled years ago and they are amazing to play. Check out Native Instruments "Una Corda" and "The Giant".
MetraMan09 There you go wrong. The historical origin of the foot measurement comes from a foot indeed. But today it’s not literally the size of your foot. Otherwise all buildings in the USA would be crooked if every construction worker used his foot to measure. It’s 30,48 cm according to Google.

The first piano - JUST WOW!!!! Beyond words, especially the higher octaves... Feels like it resonates with the soul. Makes sense, but would have never thought that a single string piano could sound so amazing!!! Second piano - Beautiful mellow tone, strangely sounds a lot like harp Third - Well... nothing special, other than its size

I like how the platform they sit on to play it seems as it would be held up there by the friction from the compression clamps that normally are used when gluing wooden pieces together or holding a piece of wood or metal down on place when worked on. I have never gotten one so tight that it would have been safe to hold up a balcony like that, let alone to stand on top of it. I hope the clamps are not what is holding the balcony up there.
