Growing up in Yorkshire, my dad used to listen to Ry Cooder all the time, back in the days of car cassettes, finish the side 1, flip to side 2, rinse and repeat. Definitely. The movie was very " deep". I remember seeing Paris Texas first the first time & feeling like I was kicked in the gut because of all the depths of human interaction & emotion. It was Dean Stanton & Ry Cooder that set a lot of the tone.
Paris, Texas is my favourite film. The Ry Cooder score resonates with the fabric and emotion of Wim Wender's oeuvre. Thank you for presenting it here. Peace and harmony to you, friend in this space.
Wim Wenders made a beautiful film. It's haunting. The soul searching, the trials of seeking to right wrong, and the reconciliation it offers is priceless.
Ry Cooder at his best...Its a haunting atmospheric album, really does compliment the movie so well...The Stones wanted him, but he said NO THANKS...So we've been able to enjoy so much more from him over the years...For me Ry Cooder and J.J. Cale epitomises 'Greatness'.
@@SlackHoffmanAdd Rory Gallagher to your list. He turned down the Rolling Stones and Deep Purple to avoid the craziness of stardom and focus on his music.
The Movie, Soundtrack and the Highway are fantastic individually. Let us give thanks to God for these three extremely good shots at that illusive target, perfection.
Paris, Texas and Paris, France, what a contrast in settings, history, people, energy. I love them both, the music from Both. What Ry Cooder’s musical score does for this Paris is in a perfect tone for the town, a versatile musical genius for sure, both south of the border and north of the border. Cheers for him!😊

Spectacular!! I wanna be there!! I watched this movie nearly 20 years ago. I was inspired by the movie and the slide tunes so that composed. Many thanks to Ry Cooder.
We've made a trip of 16800 km with a rental car ;) From the Eastcoast through the middle til Frisco, down to the border and back to Florida on the south side. That was a trip, wow. Remember the roads, the people there and the surroundings. Trip of my life. Enjoyed it!!!
This is actually Ry covering Blind Willie Johnson. Willie's song was called Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground. It's a Gospel Blues song. It was included on the Gold Disk that's aboard Voyager 1&2 sent into space by NASA in 1977.
I don't think you can EVER appreciate the desolation and beauty that this captures unless you have lived in the west and especially to have grown up in it. This music captures the soul of it!
I'm British and grew up in the countryside. I visited New Mexico over 20 years ago and was struck by the beauty of the desert. We travelled by road to Tucson where we visited the Desert Museum The beauty, smells and sounds have stayed with me these past twenty years. I was awestruck! ❤
I grew up in eastern Ontario Canada. I’ve been to the states for about 3 hours total in my life, and that was to Watertown NY. Something about this type of music makes me think of playing guitar on the porch of a stilt house in a swamp. Something about that makes me feel more home than being home.
One of my favorite, if not the favorite soundtrack and movie I have ever seen and heard. Huge Ry fan here, I have most of his recordings and saw him twice live. I particularly like the scene where HDS is in the brothel and starts...’There was this guy...’ Nastassja Kinski was also exceptional.Btw Director Wim Wenders was the doctor who treated HDS. The film hit me on so many levels, being an orphan having lost my mother as a 4 year old, reconnecting and so on. Can’t remember how many times I have watched the film at home.
Flew down to Dallas a few years back to buy a car I'd been shopping around for. The solo drive back to CA along Rt. 66 also served as a backdrop to this incredible Ry Cooder soundtrack. Yeah, it's still like that.
This is just so goddamn good. True, deep, and brilliant music. That guitar tone. Couldn't have written better music about a story in the vast expanse of Texas. Just phenomenal 👏
This is an adaptation of Blind Willie Johnson's song 'Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground' recorded in 1927, which Ry Cooder originally covered as 'Dark Is the Night' for his 1970 self-titled debut album. He also re-recorded 'Dark Was the Night' for the movie soundtrack.
@@Methilde Blind Willie Johnson's 'Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground' was chosen as the lone blues song out of 27 musical selections included on the 'Voyager Golden Record (an unbelievable honor) and placed as the second to last selection before Beethoven's String Quartet No. 13 in B flat, Opus 130, Cavatina. The Voyager Golden Record was included on both Voyager I and Voyager II space probes which were launched into space in 1977. If you like this mournful song, you also might like Djivan Gasparian's song 'My Home'.
@@borbetomagus Thanks, i gonna listen it. By the way quite a long time ago, i saw the integral of Beethoven quartets in three evenings given by Amadeus Quartet in Paris. What a great Nasa choice.
I love this. Ry Cooder is one of the very finest exponents to ever slide up and down a fretboard. This is so haunting. The video footage here works so very well to. August last year I finally got to tick one off my bucket list. I had a couple of days moving around alone through the Mojave desert and Death Valley wrapped up in that heat. I had this song and also Americas Horse with no name in my head. It was an amazing and memorable beyond belief two and a little days in my life. The rugged landscape so barren and arid, and yet so full of character.......We have nothing like this here in England!
Merci beaucoup................... its a very nice movie and the pictures are wonderful (like I were in your country). Many thanks. America great again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been to Morocco and felt instantly in touch with the truth of the landscape. People are so kind and good but even so, to go away from all the people is also good. Into the landscape. It's the same with the American southwest, but there is even more landscape, not so many people. Even so when you walk out into the chaparral - go as far as you like - you will look down and see rusty tin cans. How old? I don't know. But there is a little bit of sadness, the sigh of ghosts. Like Morocco, such innocence, yet so many ghosts.
Omg the last time i heard this music is one year ago , and i finally found it again , and i found with it your beautiful comments !!❤💗thank uu guys for ur beautiful comments.
Having seen the movie several times, the plaintive sound of the slide guitar of Ry, and those roads that I hitched four times from PA to CA, once with only 4 rides, the bittersweet passing of the years, and all the memories of that special time in my late teens and early 20's------- all wrapped up in a fever dream of the ethereal beauty of Isabella Rossellini-----and then the final parting as he realizes they can't go back, will never see each other again.....like a road well traveled that can never be again...I now know what is meant by a low sweet beautiful suffering.
What a great example of Ry Cooder's incredible guitar work. Because this one is in an alternate tuning, we've added it to our RUclips Playlist "Songs on Alternate Tunings." Thank you for sharing!
In Spain 🇪🇸 this was the theme music for an information programme about a current topic. Imagine being a child in the 80s, listening to this song and discovering a world full of suffering and war, mostly. In any case, a great song that touches you deeply...‼️☀ 🏜🎶 🎸
ah Ry the quintessential guitar bluesman love all Rys work but his slowblues are the guiding light for me without peer from any guitar player of the last 50 years. Respect and a lifetime of appreciation for an extraordinary musician.
I can't forget Ry Cooder's Paris Texas never, ever, forever. This music is the gate to great voyage to the wild. Solitude, the deepest solitude I can hear from Parix-Texas. But not only that, there is something warmth of human beings' world. In my heart, suddenly I can hear Ry Cooder's vast sound............ I wanna smell the wild, (no safety zone) area's air.
I have to keep coming back to this song, it relaxes me...makes me feel serene, all the bullshit arguments from all the negative people I've met just melt away and seem so small and pointless...i don't want to be interrupted when i listen to this.
... Pred zamišljenim gledaocem se usporenim protokom vremena otvara veličanstvena priča Sema Šeparda, pretvorena u vizuelno remek delo sedme umetnosti, magična slika izbledele i beživotne teksaške pustinje unutar koje luta godinama izgubljeni čovek u potrazi za svojim pređašnjim životom, porodicom, ljubavlju i svim onim sponama koji život u metaforičnim, pustinjskim predelima naših života čine jedinim mogućim i podnošljivim... Predivna fotografija Robija Milera, naglašena montažom i dugim, melanholičnim, usporenim kadrovima, uz izvrsnu bottleneck blues muzičku podlogu velemajstora gitare - Rej Kudera, koji svojim klizajućim blue notama oživljava autentične predele američkih nepreglednih prostranstava, i glumačku, vizuelnu harizmu zagonetne Nastasje Kinski koja naprosto pleni lepotom, jedinstvenom ženskom tajnovitošću i senzualnošću, čine ovaj briljantni Wendersov film moćnom metaforom o životu, traganju, emocijama i večno krugu unutar koga se sve odigrava i ponavlja... Pariz, Texas (ime koje izaziva sukob i kontrast između Evrope i Amerike) je film o putovanjima, drama pomirenja i iskupljenja, moderna zapadnjačka i emocionalna odiseja epske jednostavnosti i emocionalnog integriteta postavljena protiv Amerike - i mitske ( zadivljujući vidici u teksaškoj pograničnoj pustinji jednako su iskonski poput pejzaža Johna Forda, Monument Valley) i moderne (od usamljenih mostova uz cestu i neonskih totema do pogleda prema Los Angelesu s porodične kuće na brdu)… Pariz, Texas kroz plodonosnu saradnju evropskog reditelja, klasika nemačkog Novog filmskog talasa, Wima Wendesa i američkog autora, scenariste Sama Sheparda obnavlja elemente klasičnog holivudskog i evropskog umetničkog filma... ... Naravno, pustinje i gradovi imaju mnogo toga zajedničkog. Paris, Texas ostaje film posvećen sanjarima, veličanstveno delo Vima Vendersa koje iskreno i otvoreno progovara moćnim slikama i muzikom o čovekovoj samoći, patnji, žrtvovanju, praštanju, nadanju i, napokon, o najvećem blagu sveta ... o ljubavi... ...
Across the plains and deserts then through the mountains, we followed the Mother Road. Always searching for a better life following the path of our ancestor Tom Joad. In California there was work to earn our bread once we bypassed the vigilantes" barricades. It was here we set down new roots but never forgetting those before us and whence we came. God Bless Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas and where their bones still lay.
Wow. What a track. And the accompanying video. Perfect match. Really captures the essence of Route 66, the history and its natural wonder. Each guitar twang is a powerhouse of emotion. Excellent work to Cooder, the video creator, and photographer. 👍 Great upload.
Thank god, this movie was released in 83/84, I think the 80's atmosphere significantly contributes to the beauty of this movie. And I can't imagine if the scenes 're shot by using digital cam, it may ruin its sacredness.

60 years old my whole life in L.A. retired , desert rat, now, zero stress, beautiful night sky, mountains, plants , insects, life in the harsh conditions, never a dull day, what took me so long
that's a dream of mine ❤

That sound is indescribable.......wonderful, and takes our soul to a dimension that our mind alone cannot reach....from the interior of Brazil....greetings to the American brothers...
Listening to this as we roll into 2020 happy new years long live the blues
You have no idea what’s to come bro
Listening to this while we're Quarantined
The blues have definitely come back in 1920, er, I mean 2020... welcome to the next great depression. Brother, can you spare a dime?
This Soundtrack and video describes perfectly the situation on earth after we alle died of Corona
Oh trust me, the blues are going to live for a long long time, just not sure about the rest of us. be safe and wash your hands
If ever sound can paint a picture…
This (and Albatross!) are just incredible.
Grew up a Van Halen fan. Got older. Never heard anyone play guitar like Ry. Rips my head off. Haunting, subtle, latent, powerful.
Jamie Woyton ....every kid wanted to be him on the playground...he was king of the "slide"
+ Jamie. There is no one else like RY.
"Dark was the night cold was the ground " - Blind Willie Johnson
w/ Ry, every note talks
Definitely. The movie was very " deep". I remember seeing Paris Texas first the first time & feeling like I was kicked in the gut because of all the depths of human interaction & emotion. It was Dean Stanton & Ry Cooder that set a lot of the tone.
When classical meets class and class meets classical, you get this. Pure Class!!!
Paris, Texas is my favourite film. The Ry Cooder score resonates with the fabric and emotion of Wim Wender's oeuvre.
Thank you for presenting it here.
Peace and harmony to you, friend in this space.
Seen last night Paris Texas : exactly the proper song.
Wim Wenders made a beautiful film. It's haunting. The soul searching, the trials of seeking to right wrong, and the reconciliation it offers is priceless.
love it peace on your life!
Not to mention Buena Vista Social club (for me..)
This music makes me feel sad, but it's like some weird kind of sadness that you enjoy.
or like reminds you of something you cant quite remember
weird, but true; just like the movie
which movie?
Paris-Texas
It's called the blues.
He played on "Let It Bleed".
Mustn't forget Roy Buchanan to round out your holy trinity.
Ry recorded original "Memo From Turner" with jagger.
Your bang on the money brother ry and jj were true greats and never sold their souls ……it was just about the music 🎶and the vibe
@@SlackHoffmanAdd Rory Gallagher to your list. He turned down the Rolling Stones and Deep Purple to avoid the craziness of stardom and focus on his music.
This tune just shouts creative energy into my mind.
I love it, so emotional and dreamy.
amazing! The movie, the artists, the music, they all became one in this awesome movie.
Sadness, love, road.
The best movie and the best soundtrack.
you're right
Immenso Ry Cooder

Yep...my favourite film (& soundtrack) R.I.P Harry
❤️
The Movie, Soundtrack and the Highway are fantastic individually. Let us give thanks to God for these three extremely good shots at that illusive target, perfection.
Paris, Texas and Paris, France, what a contrast in settings, history, people, energy. I love them both, the music from Both. What Ry Cooder’s musical score does for this Paris is in a perfect tone for the town, a versatile musical genius for sure, both south of the border and north of the border. Cheers for him!😊
Paris Texas a movie that is still in my mind so beautiful, also by the music of Ry Coodre...a genius!
She's gone to Houston, I think....
im in love with this movie, as an greek director, I think I'm a little bit jealous... :P
this mesmerizing piece steals your soul longing to see those landscapes again. Almost hoping to see an apparition in the middle of the road.
God, I just love slide guitar. I could listen to it for hours.
Great photos for such a fantastic piece of music.
I recognise some of the places from my own trips to the USA.
Only ever saw Ry Cooder play once. (Manchester, England).
Would love to see Ry again... and would love to visit the USA again.
This represents, more than anything, the dogged determination to keep on keeping on.
My God,quanto tempo sem ouvir esta musica!um classico dos road movie, grande filme, grande trilha sonora sob a responsabilidade de Ry Cooder,as imagens da route66, desert, canyon the bar on the road, the tradicuonal signs, enfim it all good neste filme. Obrigado pela postagem.
Feliz Ano Novo, valeu, peace, health ,felicidades tudo de bom no próximo ano.
This connects me to everything I love. Including my father. The power of art.
Love the father reference. My father took me on all of his travels. Business in desert oilfields. I was only 6 then, but still wake up thinking of those times. And miss him horrendously. But I know he is still out there, driving those back roads
@@zombieheadpopper800 I can't believe I saw your comment only now. But I am so glad I did! How crazy it's to share the same blood with someone... fathers are specials and remarkable on their on ways! Hope you are doing well ❤️
Fantastische Musik ...
Loved driving from Phoenix, AZ to El Paso, TX through New Mexico. I wished I had this piece of art on!
This is actually Ry covering Blind Willie Johnson. Willie's song was called Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground. It's a Gospel Blues song. It was included on the Gold Disk that's aboard Voyager 1&2 sent into space by NASA in 1977.
Hypnotic sound track and image combination. As near perfect as it gets!
Music like this is from another world ..it's so Good ..Ry COODER pure excellence
I don't think you can EVER appreciate the desolation and beauty that this captures unless you have lived in the west and especially to have grown up in it. This music captures the soul of it!
Agree well said bro
I'm British and grew up in the countryside. I visited New Mexico over 20 years ago and was struck by the beauty of the desert. We travelled by road to Tucson where we visited the Desert Museum
The beauty, smells and sounds have stayed with me these past twenty years. I was awestruck! ❤
@deborahwylde1410 you got it then for sure. Glad you were able to visit that place and experience it. :-)
This guy is 70 next year and he's still slide king in my head......
Beautiful haunting music and wonderful images. Would love to go there and travel on Route 66
Ry's soothing music coupled with a collage of imaginative feeling imagery, what could be better......
I grew up in eastern Ontario Canada.
I’ve been to the states for about 3 hours total in my life, and that was to Watertown NY.
Something about this type of music makes me think of playing guitar on the porch of a stilt house in a swamp. Something about that makes me feel more home than being home.
There is probably a reason for that.
My GF loves 50s music and was probably inhabiting another body back then. If you believe in reincarnation
Come on down to Texas.
Lots of land to buy.
Just vote conservative or your taxes will kill you.
I saw this film in my 20s I am now 71 years old but Ry Cooder is still a master
One of my favorite, if not the favorite soundtrack and movie I have ever seen and heard. Huge Ry fan here, I have most of his recordings and saw him twice live. I particularly like the scene where HDS is in the brothel and starts...’There was this guy...’ Nastassja Kinski was also exceptional.Btw Director Wim Wenders was the doctor who treated HDS. The film hit me on so many levels, being an orphan having lost my mother as a 4 year old, reconnecting and so on. Can’t remember how many times I have watched the film at home.
It was not Wim Wenders, it was another german director, Bernhard Wicki
Nice piece of guitar. I love Arizona, the grand canyon state.. I was located in Phoenix in 1989....
The music is splendid , and so the movie. I will never forget it
Flew down to Dallas a few years back to buy a car I'd been shopping around for.
@@borbetomagus Thanks for the information
@@borbetomagus Thanks to make me discover this beautiful original version.
Paris Texas is very impressive and favourite movie.
I really like this nostalgic music.
Thank you.
Greeting from Japan 🇯🇵
I love this.
Ry Cooder is one of the very finest exponents to ever slide up and down a fretboard. This is so haunting.
The video footage here works so very well to.
August last year I finally got to tick one off my bucket list. I had a couple of days moving around alone through the Mojave desert and Death Valley wrapped up in that heat. I had this song and also Americas Horse with no name in my head.
It was an amazing and memorable beyond belief two and a little days in my life.
The rugged landscape so barren and arid, and yet so full of character.......We have nothing like this here in England!
Indémodable ... Toujours excellent !... un charme inoxydable !
Beautiful playing and beautiful photography too, a feast for the senses. Thanks for this.
Visually, one of the most beautiful films of all time. Fact
Merci beaucoup................... its a very nice movie and the pictures are wonderful (like I were in your country). Many thanks. America great again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm from Morocco " Alhoceima - Imzouren " and i don't know why i'm crying while listening to this texacien music
I do ... because its universally beautiful.. 😍
Ben amar Imane I’ve been to Morocco. Beautiful country.
The heart knows what your mind will miss. Makes me cry too.
Omg the last time i heard this music is one year ago , and i finally found it again , and i found with it your beautiful comments !!❤💗thank uu guys for ur beautiful comments.
Texas, sure looks beautiful!
Someday, I hope to go there and visit all of its natural beauty . =)
Wish someone had recorded a video of Ry in the studio on this... so expressive...
You can hear Ry Cooder playing it in this video, but the sound is very bad...(poor video quality).ruclips.net/video/RQgZ6qogJRo/видео.html
Its not in an alternative tuning, its standard
QUEL FILM!!!!
BRAVO
In my top ten records of all time. Brilliant!
I saw the movie decades ago. Fell in love with the soundtrack.
His Southern Comfort tunes are also brilliant 👏
No matter how many times I hear the opening of this or Voodoo Chile , I get goosebumps.
That is hauntingly beautiful music
I can't forget Ry Cooder's Paris Texas never, ever, forever. This music is the gate to great voyage to the wild. Solitude, the deepest solitude I can hear from Parix-Texas. But not only that, there is something warmth of human beings' world. In my heart, suddenly I can hear Ry Cooder's vast sound............ I wanna smell the wild, (no safety zone) area's air.
a strange excellent film, with fantastic music
I have to keep coming back to this song, it relaxes me...makes me feel serene, all the bullshit arguments from all the negative people I've met just melt away and seem so small and pointless...i don't want to be interrupted when i listen to this.
Ok o ii ll
Ry Cooder is my 2nd best ever favourite guitarist, just after the extraordinary Jeff Beck.
Good shout 👍
Haven't seen the film but rycooder encouraged me to change my tuning and beat a major addiction cheers geez
I’m so very glad I clicked on this one. I understand more and more now why this guy’s name has been dropped in numerous occasions
Viaggiare per perdersi
Viaggiare per trovarsi
Bellissimo video, Ry Cooder meraviglioso. Grazie !
Grande il paessagio e la musica! Mi piace! :-)

... Pred zamišljenim gledaocem se usporenim protokom vremena otvara veličanstvena priča Sema Šeparda, pretvorena u vizuelno remek delo sedme umetnosti, magična slika izbledele i beživotne teksaške pustinje unutar koje luta godinama izgubljeni čovek u potrazi za svojim pređašnjim životom, porodicom, ljubavlju i svim onim sponama koji život u metaforičnim, pustinjskim predelima naših života čine jedinim mogućim i podnošljivim... Predivna fotografija Robija Milera, naglašena montažom i dugim, melanholičnim, usporenim kadrovima, uz izvrsnu bottleneck blues muzičku podlogu velemajstora gitare - Rej Kudera, koji svojim klizajućim blue notama oživljava autentične predele američkih nepreglednih prostranstava, i glumačku, vizuelnu harizmu zagonetne Nastasje Kinski koja naprosto pleni lepotom, jedinstvenom ženskom tajnovitošću i senzualnošću, čine ovaj briljantni Wendersov film moćnom metaforom o životu, traganju, emocijama i večno krugu unutar koga se sve odigrava i ponavlja... Pariz, Texas (ime koje izaziva sukob i kontrast između Evrope i Amerike) je film o putovanjima, drama pomirenja i iskupljenja, moderna zapadnjačka i emocionalna odiseja epske jednostavnosti i emocionalnog integriteta postavljena protiv Amerike - i mitske ( zadivljujući vidici u teksaškoj pograničnoj pustinji jednako su iskonski poput pejzaža Johna Forda, Monument Valley) i moderne (od usamljenih mostova uz cestu i neonskih totema do pogleda prema Los Angelesu s porodične kuće na brdu)… Pariz, Texas kroz plodonosnu saradnju evropskog reditelja, klasika nemačkog Novog filmskog talasa, Wima Wendesa i američkog autora, scenariste Sama Sheparda obnavlja elemente klasičnog holivudskog i evropskog umetničkog filma...
Naravno, pustinje i gradovi imaju mnogo toga zajedničkog.
Paris, Texas ostaje film posvećen sanjarima, veličanstveno delo Vima Vendersa koje iskreno i otvoreno progovara moćnim slikama i muzikom o čovekovoj samoći, patnji, žrtvovanju, praštanju, nadanju i, napokon, o najvećem blagu sveta ... o ljubavi...
Great old movie. When America made great movies. The atmosphere is amazing. The soundtrack is perfect to listen on a lonely hot summer day.
It's a German film.
Wim Wenders might be flattered by that. But then we’d have to ask him😎
Wow. What a track. And the accompanying video. Perfect match. Really captures the essence of Route 66, the history and its natural wonder. Each guitar twang is a powerhouse of emotion. Excellent work to Cooder, the video creator, and photographer. 👍 Great upload.
Brilliant. Brings me back, great film, great times, great soundtrack.
Great music, great musician, great movie. Thanks for presenting it so effectively!
Thank god, this movie was released in 83/84, I think the 80's atmosphere significantly contributes to the beauty of this movie. And I can't imagine if the scenes 're shot by using digital cam, it may ruin its sacredness.
A classic, this one ! Superb Ry Cooder one of the best guitarist walking on this here earth!
Great film. great song & a great video.
This song is awesome when I was younger my friend came by and smoked me out for the first time and released a balloon into the air when this song was on I got to say I was trance by both the guitar work and the balloon got me hooked on ry cooder mid 90s great album
thanks for sharing this nice compilation from the fantastic & immortal Ry Cooder
Very beautiful photography!! And with Ry's sound track, we/me am in heaven.
How many films does the protagonist say nothing for the the first 30 minutes... The film and guitar are a sublime work of art deeply moving. If you love this film and live in London maybe we can have a beer and discuss its brilliance.
