That's pretty good mileage. My 2014 Sportster "48" was getting about 50 MPG. First thing I did was switch the 2.1 gal. Peanut tank for a 4.5 gal. tank. I have 3 Sportsters, a 1964 XLCH and a 1975 Iron Head (AMF) and the "48". I bought them new and have kept them along with a 1949 Cushman motor scooter I bought when I was 14. I'm 76 now...and still riding and wrenching.

I used to be a motorcycle courier in the 90s and i used a stock 883 4 speed chain drive sportster and i could get from Birmingham to London on a stock tank, fill up as i got off the motorway, deliver, then top up to get back to Birmingham on another full tank. The accelerator pump on the carb drank fuel. The fuel economy went south once i fitted a dynojet kit and didn't get 120mph out of it on the M25 (London orbital motorway), i also never pulled a 9 mile wheelie on the M1( main motorway London to the north) because i was bored (there were no cameras in those days).
    I wasn't going for 10 miles.
I should point out that American gallons (3.79L) are smaller than UK gallons (4.54L).
    Size IS important Sean.
The fuelly site is a great source for real world fuel economy figures.

12min 50sec I don't know if you'll ever see this, but this goes for everyone, you should never feel embarrassed about something you can't change about yourself. Everybody is different for a reason, and the best thing you can do for yourself is embrace those things; no matter how weird or annoying it might seem to other people or even yourself, you should embrace and cherish those qualities about yourself. One of the main reasons I started watching your channel (and youtube in general) was because of how genuine you are, so I vote take the shades off!

Yeah driving style matters a lot. My Triupmh Tiger goes like 50mpg if I let throttle in when I want and do all kind of driving doing some faster speeds and offroading. But If I stick to steady 60mph speed on straight quality road I can keep it at 70mpg. Its not fun to drive like that, though. :)

I find it hard to beleive .. I thought the Honda Cub was supposed to get like 125 MPG.
My Yamaha FZ-07 gets 58 MPG at 55-60 MPH and you don't accelerate hard.

    • @purpleether5405
      @purpleether5405 2 года назад +1

Yeah, this test is bullshit. the cub will get max over 150mpg, even running it hard won't bring it all the way down to the 60's. there's no way. I had a similar 125 and it was consistently over 140mpg no matter how i rode it.

My dad has built a few high end Harleys and a few of them were record breakers on speed. He built two of the fastest bikes hand built in Minnesota.

VRSC Muscle's a monster, compared to std V-Rods. I have a '17 Muscle & had an '03 V-Rod. Found-out turning through a light, when caught in a terrential rainfall, that the Muscle will drift sideways like a jackknife'd big rig. Fortunately, I've double-jacknifed a pair of pup trailers when coming-down the Catskills in a storm during the middle of the night (pulling 2 empties,) during my freight-hauling days.

Not surprised at all about the mileage. I had a 2008 Nightster that I used to ride from Columbia, SC to Raleigh, NC at 75MPH the entire way, and it always got 50 MPG. This was good considering that the Nightster had a 3.3 gallon tank.

I used to work at a steel fabrication shop and we tried making parts for them. They wanted perfection but did not want to pay. I hope that you have a better experience with them. That was to bad because the shop was only 33 miles away from them.

Wow, incredible. Plus, it weighs a lot more. I Am guessing the dry weight of the Harley is about 500-550 lbs.

Owned one of those for about 5 months. Loved it, but I had way too many complaints about the bike. The 2.5 rear shock is spine breaking, the mechanical shifting vs piston assisted with other Harleys was difficult to adjust to. The electrical system fried on mine, the areas behind the battery...which is the weirdest and most ridiculous location closest to the ground and front tire lol. The gauge cluster was amazing though, and the performance value of the bike is amazing. The bike tops out around 155 ( so I was told ;) ). Besides some normal tuning and some basic add-ons could be a great all-around bike. Anything besides local riding is not gonna happen

Sport Mode is a must when testing, the best feature that should be in every Harley. Ability to control everything without a tuner, almost like the way this bike can. 2 Programmable Tunes besides the stock tunes it already has built in.

My Buell does 0-60 that fast. 82 ft.lbs w/ 102 hp. 2004 XB12S with head/exhaust mods by Darkhorse Crankworks. Bottom end Timkens and a welded crank. I only weigh 130 and it's sitting at 390 dry.

That MPG test was great. Reminds me of the old Top Gear episode where they sent a Prius and an E90 M3 around their track. The M3 just had to keep up with the Prius, and it got better MPG. Love the postie bike, though.
