I went to China a few years ago to source machinery and India for customer support reps for a firm I was working for. In China I couldn’t even use Cash anywhere. Thankfully my driver used his WeChat QR and contactless payment system for all purchases and I reimbursed him. I was pretty much reliant on him because I would’ve needed a Chinese bank account to set up contactless payments. Hopefully India implements a system for tourists to be able to use these services without having to open a local bank account.
upi is now available for foreigners, you can top up 2k rupees on a no-bank account.
It's available to foreigners now. It's still in the early stages of testing. So only available in major airports.

@@moonshine8255 UPI is now available for tourists/visitors
Old Indian people are not so digitally literate for it .
The QR code is not the real thing , its the technology behind real time transfer that is !! The UPI system uses just a virtual ID to transfer money between accounts real time, billions of times in a day !
QR code makes it possible for those street vendors to adopt this . They no longer need those pos machines ( which breaks the bank) . It’s a brilliant idea .
"Cleanliness" and "Looking modern" are two different things. There are far more cleaner and livable cities in India, outside the overrated, overcrowded & unlivable Mumbai/Gurugram/Bengaluru etc.
But these western media choose the nearest shabbiest chai ki tapri from their hotel to potray a bad image.
One of the biggest obstacle to new technologies is lack of knowledge. I think that USA should educate its citizens about these technologies and secure the system❤

Sadly that's the land India actually controls. It's been like that from 1970s and it's not gonna change anytime soon
It's not the QR code the innovation, it is the linking of bank accounts for free into a single mobile number.
People who have thousands of crores in black money do not like digital payments, but others love it. India's opposition parties opposed this change. We all know why.
