Hey, cool assessment and review. I just looked at Ali Express and see the same exact Chinese headless guitar I use for travelling around Mexico. I bought mine over a year ago off Amazon for $200. Off Ali Express it is $87 to just over $100 depending on vendor. I almost want to buy another one but I am packed and leaving shortly. Mine came in tune and I have touched nothing other than new Billy Gibbons light strings. It came with 8 / 40’s. Travel, heat, cold, humidity seem to have no effect other than a bit of tuning. Fit and finish is impeccable. I have bought most of my other guitars off Craigslist, some were unused sitting in closets or under beds, 4 of them are Schecter, different models for $180 to $240. All of em get locking strap buttons.
Thanks! Yep. If you do buy off AliExpress just make sure they have good reviews and photos in the reviews. It sounds like there can be a lot of bad vendors out there. That's great that it stays in tune well and you haven't had to do any mods to it! Strap locks on Ali are pretty cheap too, but the quality isn't as good. I've put some on the guitar I plan to use live when my new band starts playing. We will see how they hold up.
Thanks! Thinking about something like that. Squire offers some very affordable alternatives and they are great quality. Trying to find good options for people that are very inexpensive.
Not having the $$ for a Gibson, I recently bought an Epiphone 1959 Standard Les Paul and going by the inlay on it, yours looks like the inlay is much thicker which makes me think it's not an inlay. Just a wild guess though. Before buying mine, a friend lent me his Chibson and I thought it felt incredibly heavy though I didn't put it on a scale. How does the weight on yours compare? Still, $200 isn't a bad price overall if you change out the pickups and it delivers the sound.
Yep. I think it is probably painted on. It's a lot of work to get the binding right. The Chibson weighs 8.5 lbs, my real Gibson weighs about 9.75 lbs. So it is lighter than a 2009 Gibson Les Paul. My 1992 Gibson Les Paul weighs 10.25 lbs! One of the reasons I stopped playing that one live. I'd say the major difference is aesthetics and quality of materials. They neck and frets felt fine. I'll definitely change out the bridge pickup as I almost never use the neck pickup.
I have bought a few LPs and Strat replicas. I also bought a couple PRS replicas and I have had no issues. I would say directly message the seller and manufacturer before ordering because a lot of them will send you a lemon. I’ve been playing for close to 30 years and I’ve spent a lot of time in guitar center and Sam Ash and I will definitely say that if you get the right seller and if you’re blind folded you won’t really tell a difference. But also it’s a matter of preference too. If a 2k or 5k guitar is going to get you the sound you want, then go for it. But also you can make a frankenstrat and do the same for little to no money. Just play
I tried that by just removing the top part of the bridge and trying to put it back on the pins, but it wouldn't fit. Maybe if I unscrewed the pins from the body of the guitar and just flipped the entire bridge it would work.
I bought one of those. They're not even close to a Gibson. I bought a Les Paul custom and it was an absolute waste of money. The necks are so thin and narrow and those pickups sound very thin. It also looks like its hurting you to play that. The frets on mine were awful and it absolutely will not stay in tune no matter what I do. Your real Les Paul sounds much fuller and the notes ring out a lot more clear and distinct. The chibson sounds thin and like plastic. It blows my mind that people are just willingly buying counterfeits and then they try to convince people that they're as good as the original.
why would you compare a cheap 200$ knockoff to an actual LP? The entire comparison is based on online cosmetic appearance. A comparison to some other 200$ guitar would be a much more reasonable & convincing thing to do
@@MyName-4884 it's not a clone. A clone is an identical copy. It's a cheap knockoff. Aside from some superficial cosmetic similarities, & inaccurate counterfeit branding, it offers nothing close to the real thing. Don't need a 20min vid to say that either
Okay, I stand corrected. It’s not clone it’s a knockoff. It still doesn’t change the purpose of the video. He never claimed it was like the real thing. He was demonstrating the similarities and differences between a knockoff and the real thing. A rather simple concept to grasp. Nobody forced you to watch. I found it interesting. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. If you didn’t watch it, then don’t post a comment about a video you didn’t watch. Problem solved.
@@MyName-4884 I don't care what he did or didn't claim, or what he demonstrates as similar or not. The purpose of my comment is to question why he would do any of it in the first place. You don't get to decide what anyone does & doesn't watch here, or if they should comment or not. If you have a problem with any of that, then too bad. Learn to live with it
Yep. I think they are on par with a higher-end Epiphone. I played a couple at a guitar shop after I got the Chibson, just to see how they compared. I think the Epiphones have better pickups, but otherwise, very comparable.
@@Jaymfd oh yes for me firefly has great guitars. I have two a double cut dual P90's blinding snow white finish about 5 years old when they first came out and a smokey burst I bought about 10 months ago. Both are really good guitars. The fanboys can cry n wine all they want but mahogany is mahogany and maple is maple is maple for the most part. If your guitar is built with decent wood at all and put together with competence then it will or can be a good instrument. Doesn't matter what the geographical location of the instrument is at that moment. Good wood good build quality decent ok to good hardware and pickups = good guitar.
Gibson are not for players, they are for collectors. I would never buy a guitar above $500 because really you don’t get that much more of a guitar. Iv’e bought my fair share of Chinese LP copies and 80% where total crap. I would reckomend buying something for a decent price from a well known brand like Tokai, Cort etc and modify it to your needs. Well known brands keeps quality control pretty consistent so that’s a good start. On a side note i would never buy a fake Gibson, hell put something else on the headstock. As far as your comparison, the Gibson has a little better note definition but not a big difference.
I bought a Gibson tribute les Paul p90 for 560€ new. It sounds as good as my 58 Les Paul but not so confortable. You pay what you get but Gibson is overpriced, yes
That white stripe you are calling “inlay” is actually called binding.
That’s what I said! 😂
Very cool and interesting ! I think that you’re onto something here !
Really appreciate this video ! 😛

Both sound pretty good , Even tho i’m a fender style guy . I hope you can do an off brand strat soon . love your videos

These Chibson guitars make me want to wash my hands after seeing these reviews😂. I would absolutely never waste my money on these things.
Gibsons don’t use mother of Pearl inlays either except on the Custom models, they use acrylic.

Hi!!!What amp used? Fender champion?
I'm using a Fender Twin 65 Reissue in this video.
Wow they are getting good at making a decent guitar on a very small budget, aren't they? Great review, thanks!
Yep. Way better than it used to be. Although it sounds like these things vary from seller to seller so do a lot of research before buying.
they're not better instruments, just better looking online. What do you expect for 200bucks
Busted

Would it make a difference if the bridge was just flipped around (correcting intonation of course)?

I know. Isn't that crazy. As good as Gibson😂. Shit some chibsons are better. 😮.
It blows my mind someone would buy an actual Gibson . Quality control is garbage
Looks like the Epiphone gold top finish
Stop buying counterfeit goods, period.

what about comparing it to an Epiphone? closer in pricepoint no?
Awesome videos! i really enjoy your channel!

I'm playing a firefly SG right now and after some slight mods and a setup, I'm pleased with it!

Why would anyone buy a fake Gibson with Gibson on the head stock? Pretty petty.
My pickups cost more than that guitar 😮
I would only buy an illegal counterfeit guitar with counterfeit money.
