Note: Some users have pointed out two inaccuracies. 1. The end game content does not make up the majority of f2p currency. It makes up a chunk but the majority will come from dailies and events. 2. At 8:17, I say that feixiao does 3x the Ult damage of Seele. Thats a mistake, I was meant to say 'roughly double' after factoring in her A4 and A6. My bad.
even if you only get 320 sj every rotation you'll lose just 2.5 pull every 2 week so a 7.5 pull every version patch which considering every version patch give around 100 pulls on average is a great deal in return of not having the headache to care about "meta" at all is by far the most generous way Hoyo have given us to enjoy such a game. you just need to choose it that way.
I think the powercreep (or gameplay-gating ig) has negatively affected HSR in more ways than one. Not only does it make older characters irrelevant, but also makes endgame clears genuinely boring. Absolutely no one likes seeing the characters they liked and pulled for just disappear from the game, both in story and gameplay. Because of that, I almost don't want to pull characters for gameplay now, but instead from purely a character design standpoint and how much I like them.
This is where I feel stuck right now - I look at the 3.x characters that have been teased and only Anaxa looks interesting at all to me, but I know that very quickly the meta will end up dominated by Aglea and Tribbie and Mydei and any number of others I'm just not interested in. ...and I can't feel bothered to pull for them. If it was a case of like "get Tribbie and suddenly Seele/Silver Wolf will be an amazing core again" then maybe I'd do it. I pulled Nahida even though I don't like her, because she made my Yae Miko and Fischl great, but the way HSR just dumps out entire new teams at a time I know that won't be the case and I just feel ... burnt out from it. I work in marketing. I get the way FOMO is used to drive engagement and sales. HSR has gone ... too deep into that. It's not fear of missing out anymore, it's like ... basically a standing threat that if you skip a character you could be screwed for months, and I'm too old and tired to respond to that anymore.
I'm new, started last month. I can't attest to anything yet, but I do feel like life would be better if I had specific units that came from previous updates so that I could have an easier time with endgame content.
As someone who started in 2.3, i actually utilised powercreep to power my account. When new units are better than old, it doesn’t matter if i didn’t have old units, i simply pulled for new ones. My only 5* are FF, RM, Lingsha, Fei, Robin, Aventurine. I clear all endgame content. There are many older players with much more units than me, who can’t clear lol. But just having FF team and Fei team makes my account stronger than theirs. For people joining in 3.0, my advice would be to utilise powercreep to your advantage. ONLY summon for the newest toys. Invest in summon meta, get THerta and her support. Your account will instantly overtake older players
@@theorangecandleruan mei is not new tho, you just went for the best meta options that were available when you could pull and ignored other units like jade and boothil that despite being new were not as universally strong as the units you pulled
Tbh, i think alot of these issues could be fix if Hoyo just swallow their pride and buff/rework older characters. There's literally no reason not to when older units will never make as much revenue as new ones unless they're fan favourite and in fact it even increase the revenue for those older units because people would want to see their favorite characters get buff and invest in them even more
It's illegal tho they can get sued for that so they cant risk it I mean they tried buffing some older charecters like jingyuan and he's decent now higher than dan heng and jingliu atleast and they also successfully buffed himeko she is literally insane right now and will become even better with hertas release
@@Daimon-ls6noIt’s not illegal, and plenty of gacha games have buffed characters before. The only thing they could be sued for is if a character got nerfed or had some aspect of their kit removed from them.
This problem shows up not with just dealing damage, it also shows up on sustaining your hp and sp as well. Like how some fua teams cannot work because units cannot generate enough sp to sustain whole team without topaz or aventurine. Or how while fighting some bosses you really benefit from using shielders cause bosses debuffs your healing or deals damage themselves when they hit to shields. Or for more recent example, they started giving enemies more speed so that they kill you really fast even before your sustain can do anything. But would you look at that?! New sustain Lingsha can sustain your team in these situations without a worry! They really killed my dear Fu xuan's relevancy by those tactics...
AFAIK so far there are only 2 elites who have a strict shield mechanic (penacony ape and skinny Belobog robot). They're pretty survivable so far, but I hope there won't be more, it is very frustrating to get them as a random boss in DU while you chose a healer instead of shielder for your sustain. Also, the entire game literally has 2 and a half shielders 2 of which are 5*, like come on 🙄
@@Duarte_GB Definitely not as good as before. Even with her signature LC, she gets a really hard time agains new enemies compared to how she was. They deal so much damage that her her stacks can't keep up with it cause cannot use her ult enough. And meanwhile she struggles to keep herself alive enemies shreds down her allies
Powercreep wasnt really an issue before 2.5, when they increased the hp in moc by 50% (the same percentage increase as going from floor 10 to 12 in 1.6). Before that everyone still knew that Feixiao is better than Seele, break is a better archetype than dot, but no one complained, becuase the latter could still clear with high investment. I think hoyo should have just added more Moc floors instead of increasing the hp in floor 12. and if these new floors didnt have jades as rewerds, there wouldnt be a problem with the hp amounts.
My Problem with powercreep is how powercreepable character kits are made, like they make a dps and it can only work as a dps and nothing else ever, they should learn from Genshin Impact, yes genshin, because in genshin there are character that used to be dps units, got powercreeped and now they work verry well as support units, you can definetly use ganyu as a melt activator,or yelan as a hydro applicator, even if they were used as main dps when they came out, their versatile kits allowed for expansion beyond your typical powercreep, raiden shogun might not be the hardest hitting dps in the game, but she still has a verry consistent off field electro dmg which allows for versatility
one similar issue i have is how unorginal hsr kits are compared to genshin, which just makes the powercreep even worse. Fugue is just a better HMC lingsha is a better gallagher sunday is just a better bronya aglea is just a better jing yuan (leaks now) mydei is just a better blade. it feels like almost every unit recently is a copy of an older unit, which happens very rarely in genshin (all i can think off is chiori being directly better than albedo but it isnt really a case anymore since there are still some nieche teams where he is better)
@@patobrien5001 Yes,you're right,it is simple in genshin, but in hsr it is also simple, but if you don't meet the requirement of dmg,you simply cannot win,in genshin you may add a bit of the skill factor,if you do things in a certain way,you can have a chance to finish slightly faster or slower,so there is a skill factor,in hsr,you can repeat the same match 100 times, but if you don't have the required builds, characters and overall dmg,you cannot finish,so I think it's better to be simple like in genshin,at least you have a choice to use different team comps and play the way you want,in hsr there's no choice, either play a rigid team or lose
This video is good and mostly correct, but one crucial piece is missing in this video: Equipment (Runes, Relics, Planetarys, Echos, Disk Drives, whatever the name). Half of a characters viablilty comes from these things. All S-tier Character have fitting Equipment or do only need stats. For example the relic system is also the reason break effect is the strongest. The best relic set & forcing on fewer stats is easier & better. ZZZ is going to face the same problem with anomaly. This isnt new, other games already made this mistake. The showcase of this is Yunli vs Clara in HSR. The numbers are very similar, with different dmg distribution between Ult, skill and counter(they even want the same lighcone). However, Yunli has a fitting relic set, where clara relies on a basic element set. Giving Yunli like 15% more dmg (very roughly) and putting her into S-tier, while clara stays out of it. To stay in HSR, Firefly & Dot would be very bad without their relic & Planetary set. Try using them with different sets and the numbers will make you very unhappy. But Hoyo tries to use relics to save some old units, which they succeeded in. There will be a lot more sets and if they fit older units they will get into Meta again (like Jing Yuan).
I agree, I think HSR has done a decent job at not making the Relic sets too hyper focussed on one unit and generic enough to actually be used on older units. ZZZ has already kind of fallen into that trap, just look at how specific the Miyabi set is.
@@yattyy I mean, while it's true that the Miyabi 4p is very specific, it's also not even that much better than existing options like 4p Woodpecker or 4p Polar. PHllSH at the time calced her BiS set to be only like ~3% better. Not to mention how much, MUCH more friendly the artifact/relic system is in ZZZ in comparison to HSR/Genshin.
This all doesn't matter for ZZZ because it's Skill-based and not trun-based as long as you play good it's not important to crit with every hit because you can just dodge and hit them more. It's not nearly as important to have the right substats in ZZZ as it is in HSR and I play both games for months now..
@@KingDarkness100 Whats defines a Top Tier Charakter in ZZZ right now? Maybe to beat its hardest content? Oh this Endgame content is either a puzzle or a DPS check (Combat with a Time Limit). You can beat every fight in ZZZ with skill only, but not the clock. Can you get all the rewards in Shiyu Defense 07 or Deadly assult without Disks? Go ahead try it and meet the thing called "skill ceiling". As time will go one and your gameplay while improving will hit a ceiling. As gameplay get optimized, gear will matter more and more. This is the common between all Hoyogames, because their equip systems are all on the same basis. This System wont change because its the main reason people keep playing. Another hint, what is the number one tip to maximize deadly assult? Watch any video i can wait. Oh its "share you best gear with other caracters".This sounds like almost everyone else came to a similar conclusion. You missed the context and in this context gear matters a lot even in ZZZ, where gear has less impact.
its not just damage that gets powercrept but also sustain. Latest sustains not only protect you from dying much better but also buff your damage at the same time. Which wouldnt be much of an issue if the incoming damage didnt also increase accordingly to where you struggle to not die if you dont have the latest and greatest sustains you struggle to stay alive making older ones completely pointless as they cant even do the only job they have on a team.
Nice vid. I will say that I disagree on one of your points. When you said these endgame modes are the primary source of currency for F2P, I think that’s false and implies that you are missing out a lot by not clearing all of endgame. You get a total of 800 jades from clearing endgame every 2 weeks. Even looking at that in a vacuum it isn’t the primary source of Jades for a F2P account. You’d get 840 jades from dailies in that same 14 day period, and then when you consider all the other ways to get jades (Events, weekly SU, new patch content, etc.) the endgame rewards look relatively small. That’s also making the assumption that you can’t clear ANY endgame, which seems a bit much. I did some testing and looked at the numbers, and players realistically should be able to clear 3/4th of the end game content bare minimum. The crazy catered bosses, big HP inflation, and difficult to survive stages only occur on MoC 10+. Before that you can run the most scuffed teams of all time and still clear. For example, I did a test run on MoC 9, where side 1 was using my F2P Fei Xiao + Moze + March 7th + Loucha comp, and second side was using F2P Himeko + HMC + Asta + Gallagher. I was able to clear the content easily. Then I did another run using primary F2P old units. Seele + SW + Tingyun + Loucha, and other side Kafka + Asta + March 7th + Gall. I still cleared easily, despite only using left over rainbow relics, doing improper rotations, with 8/10 traces. PF 3 is free because Herta and Himeko are F2P options, the only one that is challenging/inconsistent in any way for even the beginner accounts would be Apoc, but even there Apoc 2 is clearable by even the bottom of the barrel player. That is to say, the HP creep is effecting a much more narrow pool of players then you may think, and the negative impacts on the F2P/beginner side of the playerbase is minimal at worst. I’d say the psychic damage that comes with being unable to clear all endgame content is arguably more impactful then the missing rewards for those whom it affects.
Practical solutions to the current issues: 1- An exclusive way to buff older units. Dragalia Lost introduced a mechanic for older/4 star units that effectively gave them 10 levels of increase base stats and gavee them a new passives/skill changes. This would incentivize players to pull for and invest in older units since there is a stigma that pulling on dps reruns can be bad in hsr. 2-Emphasis on more mechanics based gameplay and characters-what i mean by this is putting more emphasis on characters with unique features to interact with gameplay rather than increase numbers ie make enemies that can give foes toughness shields/take less toughness for x turns but are dispellable so old units like luka, pela, and luocha have new niches. perhaps we get boss mechanics where skills cost double but deal double damage so units like arlan and jingliu have new relevance and we have to create new teams that are more sp positive to accommodate. We also are starving for more 4 stars that can support gameplay of other characters. 3- Modes that require more teams. I dont like how Genshin did this but on paper the idea of spreading out your good units mean you dont need to ramp up the dps check escalation as quickly.
Fei Xiao is absolutely strong because she is Fei Xiao. She can get impressively fast clears with a random assortment of 4 stars on her team. This Apoc shadow was designed with 3 teams in mind for each side. FF Break, DoT, and Quantum for side 1. Jing Yuan, Acheron, and Rappa Break for side 2. Outside of this, the bosses have other rogue strategies than can work. Yunli works side 1 despite 40% physical res because of the very high enemy attack frequency. Jade Blade/Lingsha works side 2 because breaking the boss is dependent on doing a lot of AoE hits. In fact, Feixiao is not designed for either side, and only works because she, and her team, are the most powerful units right now.
Don't get me wrong she is an extremely strong unit. But her true strength imo is her insane synergy with Topaz and Aventurine, i don't know the exact amount, but how many ults she gets off just through those two alone must be over 2x if not more. Robin is just busted in general. Fair enough about the other teams, I do agree in that sense. To say Feixaio is not designed to for part one but Yunli is due to high attack frequency doesn't make sense as the constant AOE hits makes Aventurine FuA like crazy making Feixiao pop off too.
@@yattyy Topaz / Aventurine are designed to synergize with any FUA unit though, it's like if someone said Firefly was only good because of her synergy with Ruan Mei and HTB. That's just how a damage archetype works
@@galaxi6585 There is a difference between synergizing and making them a tier 0 DPS. Feixiao main damage comes from the ult, Topaz and aventurine provide so many stacks that feixiao is able to ult around 2x more frequently if not more depending on the fight. Whilst they may make a team with Dr ratio better, it's not the same level as what they do for Feixiao Firefly is 100% not good without HMC or Fugue. Play her without a super break provider. Having tested on AP, a non super break hit did roughly 83k, with super break it was 233k. Huge difference imo
@@yattyy Did you actually try Feixiao in the current MoC? The HP inflation is so insane that, with the traditional FART team, WITH E1 Robin, she must use 2 ultimates instead of 1 to 0c the first wave now, which means less ultimates for the actual boss. Even in the previous one, she was already struggling to 0c Svarog despite it being full of wind-weak enemies. Obviously if you wanna play sustainless then it works still, but it's not the point. I'm not exactly sure how Feixiao is anything "OP" in that sense. Yeah, she is in sustainless teams, but that's not the meta, except for Break.
One of the biggest problems for me is the lack of functional 4-star alternatives, in terms of both characters and perhaps especially light cones. There's not a functional 4-star shielder. The healers are iffy at best, outside of Gallagher, who is tied fairly heavily to one team. The supports are ... niche and underpowered, and good luck doing anything with a 4-star DPS, most require multiple 5-star eidolon supports to even approach doing enough damage to clear content. On top of that so many characters, be it 4 or 5 star, have perhaps a single usable light cone outside of their signature, and many of those can be really hard to access, requiring you to roll on banners you might not otherwise want to. There's nothing so simple as a Favonius Sword, or even something like Mistsplitter as a universal 5-star stat stick. The "free" cones you can buy from the MoC shop are generally outdated and bad, and on top of that somehow all the paid Battlepass light cones are functionally awful. You just don't have easy to access options for most characters, paid or free, without diving into the light cone banner. Acheron released basically REQUIRING her signature cone to function, as there weren't any other Nihility options that fit her at all. People are going to start this game in 3.0, and pull Silver Wolf because she's adorable and in tons of marketing, and just ... immediately be cooked. Even if you do pick the "right" character as a new player, I just can't imagine trying to catch up with the meta as a low spender, because this game is based around having at least three full teams of limited 5-stars and multiple signature weapons in order to clear endgame.
By my reckoning, most of the pull income in HSR, Genshin and ZZZ is a combination of log-ins and event rewards, *not* MoC/PF/AS. The latter matters more for complete f2p than to monthly buyers but even then you get most of the patch rewards for doing chores basically. The second thing to mention is that, yeah, it sucks if you don't get all the rewards, but you can get *most* of the rewards without a bunch of limited units propping you up, which means you're actually more likely to miss on a small handful of pulls (throwing out a figure of like 5-6 if you clear around 4/5 of the rounds in a patch) than what the video implies in it's tone. It's a given that new units will usually outperform the older ones and the dev will want you to feel satisfied with your pull. That Genshin has early game characters that remain relevant is a particularly standout exception that I chalk up to shortsightedness (MHY *has* actually made stuff accidentally too good and they still kinda do today) rather than because they intended for them to stay relevant for so long initially. I will praise that this video recognizes that powercreep is a necessary evil, however. Too many people think it shouldn't happen when live service games basically rely on it to subsist, not just for revenue but for the simple fact that not trying out new things just makes the game become stale.
I totally agree, another user mentioned a similar sentiment about the f2p income statement being wrong. Total misjudgement on my end. I appreciate the nod, I wanted to really highlight that in the grand scheme, when done well, powercreep can generally be a good thing which pushes the game forward and keep things fresh.
No, it's not. Genshin passed for four years without it, with Verizon one characters still cleaning the abyss, it's a matter of skill. HSR is powercreeping in a way even top 1 chars in their releases are now useless
@@rafaeloliveira9353 I did say in my video that Genshin has done a great job at powercreep as most of the supports and sub DPS like Bennet, Xiangling, Xingqiu etc are still universally used.
its fine with hsr since the meta only exist if you want it and thats what people need to realize. the moment you don't care about moc, pf and as then you'll be much happier playing the game since story and event battles is more for you to have fun than to be a challenge that need "meta" units.
MoC 12 Svarog seems meant for FUA team being it's weak to Fire and Wind but the still not fixed Aventurine bug keeps making me wipe and then when I do kill him with at least 3 cycles to spare, can't kill TS because it feels like True Sting is meant for Rappa or Therta since its weak to imaginary and ice plus no trotters spawn BECAUSE TS keeps making babies. This MoC 12 is the first one I haven't been able to clear....
i saw someone say that powercreep in star rail makes endgame clears somewhat boring and i have to say thats also what i feel, like, they couldn't have worded it better. like, in hi3 and genshin, i wait for the reset of the weekly/biweekly modes respectively with anticipation (heck abyss in hi3 is 2 times per week, so its not even weekly), in hsr i dread it. i like malding a little bit in hi3 abyss for hopefully scoring better than one or two people who have better gear than me, because even if i cant, it doesn't change much what rewards i get, as long as i dont demote, and even if i do, its like 40-80xtal lost for that reset, i can get it back usually, plus demotion if im not in a tight rope isnt even a question for one or two bad weathers in genshin, i love the theater and really like doing abyss to some degree (to some degree cuz they like their time waster bosses sometimes), i dunno, i just like them, even if i do get a bit mad at abyss sometimes in hsr i dread when MoC, PF or Apoc Shadow reset, they feel like a chore... id even say its not about team variety, hi3 you have like 12 chars that actually are relevant and they make like 6 teams
The second half of the Apocalyptic Shadow didn't need Rappa at all. I cleared it with 3180 points using Lv80 Acheron, Lv80 Aventurine, Lv70 Pela, and Lv70 Silver Wolf. The issue you're seeing isn't Powercreep yet, it's Early-Installment Weirdness from a game being in it's first year; where all the characters kits had no greater synergy, tanks couldn't sustain themselves, and Yanqing was tiered on par with Clara.
8:17 700% is not triple of 425% lol Feixiao does have a higher ult multiplier, but it's (6 x 90%) + 160% for a total of 700% as stated at the start of the description
I agree that powercreep exists, but I don't agree that it's as problematic as to force pulls as the current moment. I am concerned that this may change in 3.x however. For context, I am a f2p day 1 player who has only pulled 8 characters total from the start of the game, and I have full cleared every endgame mode with full stars from version 1.2 onward. The only limited 5*s I have pulled are Seele, Luocha, Silver wolf, Kafka, RM, Acheron, Rappa, and Robin. That means for most of 2.0 I have been able to make it with only one "meta" dps. Sure I have both the big supports, yet for the longest time, I didn't have the "meta" dps units that go best with either of them. I also don't have the "meta" support for Acheron (JQ) instead pairing her with Silverwolf and Pela even to this day. I almost never consider "meta" in my pulls. For all of 1.x and half of 2.x my greatest consideration was whether they're og honkai characters. Only at the very end of the 2.x patches did a friend finally convince me to depart from that strict standard, pull Rappa and build a proper break team. Though tbh, given my past experience, I likely could have gotten 3* on all endgame without her. (She knocked my cycles used for moc from about 8-6) Meta shifts and powercreep do exist, but it's less oppressive than a lot of CCs make it seem. having to pull only 8 characters in a total of 20 months is only about 1 character every two and a half months.
it is a self fulfilling prophecy. they themselves set the expectations for powercreep, now they have to keep the ball rolling or else people will skip fearing of the next unit. and seeing as it got mentioned: arknights is probably the only game left where powercreep is meaningless since you can clear with anyone and they do not powercreep this hard (there has only been like 5 in 5 years of service and they are all completely not needed still, they just make life easier. I don't use them at all), it just takes thinking, and even then it's not a perfect game (spark system is ass).
I remember someones videos pokkes view saying its like and arms race and i feel it true. On comparasion, 4th and 5th fighters generation are always subject to vertical upgrade (progressional evoltiion) or direct powercreep (generation gap) disscusion, which can be related to 2.0 and upcoming 3.0 characters, as we dont really know how its gonna be, but on the other side, 1.0 characters are victims of generational gaps just like 1 to 3rd fighter generation, of course some few fighters from 3rd and event 2nd geneartion are "used" in countries airforce and can do actually their tasks but that doesnt mean they are still good standing and have a fair chance to compete over 4th generation fighters who already outclassed them. Leavin aside the comparasion, its a mixture of critical factors who led to the powercreep/outclass of 1.0 characters. - we can note hp inflation. - probably me but i can say new bosses unique mechanic is just Crowd control spamming. - sometimes the buffs given are straight awful and keeps favoring the same characters over and over In correlation: - the hp inflation is countered by the newest characters at most - usually if the boss has a certain or not so looked mechanic, coincidentally newer characters have also tools to overxounter or directly ignore those. -this same issue also favors newer characters, whata a surprise. Moving aside bosses: -sets can be, sometimes, too specially designed for the new characters or a too spececific type of characters, which is a double edge sword cause sets like the mara and some planetary are too niche or directly garbage to use at full, while at the same time the spacetracker, talia and bananaspace aged/can still age like fine wine. - not to mention some sets try to be to universally but in the end are completely outclassed, like wild wheat, element bonus, herta space station and the sun one. - sadly old characters kit are to simply designed and newer ones are too overloaded, this should not be an issue since a lot of games even not gacha ones have this but older characters can still plenty shine (exmaple ambessa and trundel from league, though the game isnt the best examplenof balancing)
Very well written, I agree with pretty much everything. The whole topic about relic sets is interesting. I don't know if you play ZZZ but they have really gone down the path of making sets tailored for one unit in particular but HSR has managed to still keep them generic enough that it at least allows for archetypal use instead of literally one unit. In some cases it even managed to bring some older units up which is nice, but overall i do agree.
@yattyy zzz is falling in the same mistake, though i have massive skill isssue since i have severe coordination disability and im a trash to dodge, miyabi set is too specific again, a ser who could easily buff elen, lyacon and soukaku is now locked behind the anomaly buff that it has. The rest of sets arent that bad, therefore i still feel relics will have the same fate, considering the 1.0 og def set already got replaced
The more the game goes on, the more likely it is to end up with older characters suddenly being good (like Huohuo most likely being Aglaea's best sustain) I don't think its possible for Hoyo to keep designing new characters while completely making older ones useless. Dps wise? Absolutely. But like in any gacha, the supports will stay relevant the longest. Ofc it sucks when your team becomes obsolete but some amount of powercreep is bound to happen eventually. Not all games can be Arknights after all! 🎉 But I think the free pulls we get is fairly generous too, tho? It's one 5 star every patch. Plenty of games that don't give that.
@@nene2969 yea just wanted to get the facts right. Considering the fact there making some ligthcones must pulls it certainly hurts a bit. And I can mention the 6 rerun banner because we don't know if that's gonna stay. It's about as generous as most mihoyo games in terms of pulls per patch. You get one 50/50 per patch. I'm terms of other gacha I guess it depends which one, some are really bad yea
Most of your points are true but I think that this issue strongly affects newer players way more than older players just due to the fact that they don't have access to the premium supports/DPS in general. I do agree that the endgame powercreep is getting ridiculous due to the HP inflation but tbh endgame clearing isn't necessary for casual players as far as I know. I think one of the solutions is to just add some sort of selectable rerun for newer players to be able to jumpstart in their journey into endgame since we know that the amount of jades is actually quite a lot. While some players do feel like the content may be overwhelming, I think HSR is doing ok since they're introducing more easier DPS for f2p players now compared to what we had back then(Like the herta that syncs well with pretty much any erudition and such), so I think its just a matter of choosing from the players itself. If they chose the wrong units and feel dissatisfied then we can't blame hoyo for it. But yea again, endgame isn't compulsory and it shouldn't be. Overall, good points. Hopefully the game gets better after 3.0 drops to make endgame slightly more enjoyable
I agree, I had some friends who started just before the Feixiao Banner. Due to the fact that most end game content revolves around the most recent units and them pulling for most of new stuff that came out they have actually had a much better time at clearing than originally expected. The MoC that released yesterday was not too bad even if they had subpar stats as having a decent feixiao with robin and rappa with HMC and Fugue made clearing okay.
I do like the idea of being able to pick older banners, would really help if people could pick up Robin or a Sunday as they are usually the missing piece.
@@yattyy Yea hopefully HSR can implement that system eventually once the game grows, cuz I also have some premium sustains and AoE characters not in my acc due to irl stuffs.
I am F2P, so I don't pretend to ever be able to complete endgame content. Investing in meta will always end badly, so I use the few resources to take characters that I like, or appear frequently in the story.
You can 100% complete endgame content as a f2p. The thing with Hoyo games is they are not hard at all and anyway, if you don't care about the endgame modes, you are not losing much currency
7:40 lol what? completely lost me here. The endgame is not the primary source of income, to recoup the cost of one characters takes months or maybe even a year. Going for even one meta unit you dont like will cost you months of grinding and by the time you get the currency back, that meta unit is no longer meta. The endgame gives wayyy too little currency to be worth going for meta units unless you want to beat the endgame.
@@knightofcarrion7358 I replied to other comments with the same sentiment as yours. Yes, I misjudged the value of rewards from end game content when compared to the whole f2p picture, my bad
Idc of the powercreep stuffs, my teams are fully built, I don't need to use that "specific" character to clear the content. I just use • Acheron, black swan, kafka, and aventurine • Firefly(earlier March 7th hunt), ruan mei, Gallagher and htb. With that team, I can clear 34/36 stars from moc, 11/12 stars from pf, 10/12 stars from apoc. It's not abt the "specific" character that you want to get to clear, but it's abt the stats of the character. You need to bring up the stats and the traces for each and every character so that you can clear the content easily. For example, u don't need rappa to clear the moc 12. But u can do it by march 7th or firefly.
The 1.x Hypercarries are badly-designed, though. Multiplier increases don't save Seele from being all-or-nothing with her kit, or Jingliu/DHIL not being able to ignore resistances/weaknesses, or their Eidolons not meaningfully improving this situation. Having your Hypercarry do 100% of the damage also means there's no space to keep up with any meaningful increases in numbers, aside from outright targeted powercreep of the DPS or Support, which is the worst example of powercreep. Ironically, DoT is probably the team comp from 1.x in the healthiest state. Still plenty of room for a dedicated support, vertical investment in Eidolons directly buffs the team, they still get shilled by Hoyo now and then, and they're a team comp Hoyo are absolutely keeping an eye on, so you'll know they'll get new support now and then, rather than being 'feature-complete' like FUA. As for future plans? Hoyo are 100% going to start pushing Harmony characters for different archetypes, in order to push Robin back into her FUA niche. And as for who I'd pull? Herta. Erudition is an undersupported archetype as is, and Herta staples 80% Crit Damage to every Erudition by virtue of her existing. Erudition comps also usually come with self-reinforcing buffs across the board, you can usually just staple Crit Rate to their characters and go BRRRRRRR. Not to mention of course that we still don't have Premium 5 star options for Lightning, Wind, and Imaginary, or a dedicated 5-star sustain, so there's still plenty of room to grow. Erudition has potential to become an absolute menace in endgame, and I think people are too fixated on Castorice and Mydei/Phainon to notice this. Not to mention of course, that pulling and building Erudition units means you can basically clear PF without even trying, which is one of the 3 big endgame modes.
interesting point about DoT and we'd tend to agree. there's still plenty of room for growth for the archetype, at least presuming hoyo gets back around to it. whereas with someone like Sunday, considered a huge buff to 1.x hypercarry units, only Jing Yuan can actually utilize his whole kit, everyone else (Seele, DHIL, Jingliu) are missing at least a 50% dmg bonus, making him mostly there for the SP economy since his skill buff is pretty much half that of Bronya's.
I think there's a real aspect where you just posit ideas that don't have solid backing. Is it really true that "if you don't have fei/firefly you're screwed for the first half of apoc shadow"? I don't think it is. I used Firefly on the B side and god damn monoquantum with QQ of all people on the A side and it did just fine, yes, I have a real investment in that team but it cleared at over 3.5k, way above what would be necessary so less investment would still do just fine. And even then, let's say it's completely over and this time you can't clear the the last stage with full max rewards. You're losing half a pull every 2 weeks. I don't like a lot of this gacha system stuff but this is not that bad. In the first place, you get so many pulls in this game on a per patch basis that you can either invest in breadth or in depth. Either of these function very well in this game.
To be fair, QQ has been used for a lot of clears throughout the patches. If yours is very well built, the Apoc buff was quite insane for that team, I think its was something like 40% more quant damage or something. My pinned comment did correct the idea that the pulls missed is not that big a problem in the grand scheme of a f2p players income but I think it depends on you stance on whether f2p players should be able to full clear end game. I think a there are deffo people(just take a look at some comments) that feel like its an issue for them but you can obviously say its a skill issue and you just need to build better teams etc but thats a discussion for another time.
@ Yeah, there was an insane Quantum buff, that’s true. (Though I’ve used her for every endgame mode since sparkle and she’s still getting 3.3 at worst with my E2 Sparkle team though that’s obviously high investment) and on the other hand there seems to do some buff like this every time. We had ice before making jingliu super good in the previous apoc. I do think F2P should absolutely be able to clear endgame modes. I’m a monthly+bp player myself and have not struggled in a long time, personally. There is a real issue of “content needs to be hard enough to not be a complete joke to decently build characters and strong synergies” and this game does not have much of it even as is. I know plenty of people that are F2P do clear just fine but it is no doubt easier with more resources and you probably need to be smarter about who you pull (and which lc) and actually get decent relics etc. You point out yourself that Powercreep to a certain degree is a necessary evil and I actually think this game has handled it quite well. If you’re a new player you can get fewer of the new meta units and clear fast, if you’re an old player you can invest heavier in the supports, skip some stuff if you have one really good team and save. If anything, many old units have come back and gotten better over time - topaz you named yourself, herta is another great example. Serval will be useful in 3.0 again out of nowhere. Sparkle gave QQ a new life. Jing Yuan was brought back through Sunday. Jade will likely actually become useful through The Herta.
ZZZ is not true at all you can clear Deadly Assault side 3 Marionette only with E6 Soukaku(a support played as DPS) it's literally on RUclips meanwhile in HSR I can't even clear the new MoC 12 in 10 cycles with my Feixiao, Robin, Aventurin M7/Moze and Rappa, Fugue, HMC, Lingsha teams let alone clear anything with only 1 Character and yes my relics are not the best but they have the right sets and mainstats and traces aren't maxed but I can't farm them because you need to build so many units like Himiko/Herta just so I can clear PF it's just anoying meanwhile in ZZZ I have build many Units too but having the perfect substats is not nearly as important to clear stuff because the game is way more Skillbased. It just sucks I though my Rappa team is finally build by having Fugue but nope I still need Ruan Mei which is not rerunning(why on earth does Hoyo not rerun her besides releasing all the super break characters...) even getting Fugue E1 would not replace her and DDD is also absent on my account it just frustrates me
@@KingDarkness100 stats and traces matter much more in hsr since there isn't a 'skill gap' which can win you fights, it's really just press the buttons in the right order. With those teams you should really be able to do it. Your break team, you have to make sure you are hitting specific break points for Break Effect and also Effect Hit rate for fugue etc. check prydwyn for the break points and stuff, similarly with the FuA team, you need good crit for it to work.
@@yattyy The thing is I have all the breakpoints on my break teams: Rappa has 417, Fugue has 329, HMC has 377, and Lingsha has 364 all in battle of course so that is not my problem I also have Rappa LC. Now if we are talking about my Fei team the stats on Character screen are for Fei 3,7k Attack, 82 crit and 101 CDMG and E1S1, March has 3,2 Attack, 75 Crit and 137 CDMG with S2 Herta LC, Aventurine has 4,1k DEF 24 crit and 136 CDMG with 4 Star Lc and Robin is E1 with 4,3k Attack and the 4 Star Event Herta Lc S5. My relics aren't THAT bad but I still can't clear it I tried it so many times now.. best I can do is 18 cycles left and i'm not playing in a dumb way. Is it really the traces? They are all at level 6/10 some are 8/10 with every trace unlocked. I'm not joking it's not possible for me to clear this MoC 12 and it frustrates me. Ruan Mei is way to good to not have her because her action delay is so op Fugue does not change that..
Absolutely amazing video, but I think powercreep is not actually that big of an issue, for recuring players at least. Star rail is very generous with rewards and allows you to get a limited unit every 1-2 patches, 2-4 phases free to play (depending on luck of course). Meaning even as a free to play you can easily keep up with the meta, since it takes many many months for a current meta unit to become bad, you can easily get 4-5 limited units before the one you have becomes bad, making the issue of staying in meta relevance not a very big problem. But for new players who do not know what characters are meta (who will carry them while they pull many new characters) and old characters who are very very weak, it can be a massive problem for them to be able to progress in the story and newer game modes with characters who cant pull their weight, in turn making it hard for them to get rewards, making it harder to progress over all. I do think adding new characters who enable old ones is a brilliant idea, like how feixiao is decent-mediocre alone, but top tier when combined with other mediocre units (topaz, march, moze). and adds new powerful characters whilst also making old characters better.
@@Satyr42 Y'all must know the difference between powercreep and meta. Obviously THerta will be insane since endgame modes will be tailored for her, that's why we got the puppet trio in practically every other MoC since Firefly's release, why HYV kept putting fire-weak enemies since Lingsha, and why we kept getting wind-weak enemies and friendly scenarios for Feixiao. Whether she's a true T0 DPS remains to be seen and you absolutely can't judge that in scenarios where she's getting shilled.
you didn't touch on this too deep so i will add my opinion on this but i also think people is confusing improvement with powercreep and let me explain this. As the game go on, the dev have more exp designing char kit as you might have remember hsr is mhy first turn-based game, as the dev have more experience the kit they design have less mistake, all part of kit synergize better into 1 flow, making the char more effective at their role, and dealing more dmg on total even if some new char multiplier is not that higher than old one. For example, all the problem we have with Lightning Lord(slow, don't ER) was all fixed with later summon char like Topaz and Lingsha both have action adv their summon and their summon can generate energy, the list can go on if you look for it, the point is mhy dev is not some perfect being they made mistake and they improve on the next one. The stronger char we seeing is not that the dev is intentionally trying to powercreep older char but by improving on what they did wrong last time, the newer char come out stronger than old one, tbh i think it good thing they are improving on their mistake or would u rather have same old kit design and mistake of 1.0 kit on newest char, like i would be more worry if they show no improvement. Ofc you could argue why not go back and fix old char? Well there is a lot of issue with that many thing to consider and balance around which is extra work on top of the massive work they already have to keep push out content every patch and new region/planet every year for the game, it not as easy as it sound to be. Another potential problem is if old char is still strong then why should player pull for new char, like not all char is likeable by the whole community and making one that popular take time so they can't do that with every char, so it back to gameplay. At the end of day hsr is still business, they need to make money, maybe the dev did want to go back and fix old char but the higher up say no, it free game but not a charity, they need to make money, i won't said it good or bad but it business, people have to understand that money invest back into game don't translated back to same amount profit they earn back from that investment, sometime they invest more than they gain back so putting all the profit back into the game is also not the way to do it and frankly it dumb move side note: i think FGO actually have the best buff system from all the game i play, as many of their buff actually impactful more than example you bring up, and to this day i haven't seen much game able to replicate their success with buff char, it also able to dodge most law around adjusting already release product in some gacha law.
maybe more like somewhat vertically invested. cleared Cocolia with over 1300 AV remaining (3300+ score) with E0S1 Kafka, but she had E1S1 Black Swan and Ruan Mei each on the team. it was close enough that a purely f2p DoT team likely would struggle to get the 3300pts
@@0v_x0 DoT team basically dead unless you are just investing it with money (no doubt), and f2p DoT team not even close to 3300pts, it's not really enjoyable to play with DoT team right now on AS
Let's be honest, the people that complain about powercreep the most never even cleared 36/36 before and they probably "build pity" on every banner too, never finishing the building process of a character before pulling a new one. They will never full clear if they dont change their mentality about the game. Also missing a star in other game modes or 3 in MoC is just a 80 jade loss, its not a big deal
bro I cleared every MoC 12, PF, AS since Feixiao banner but I can't clear the new MoC 12 because it's clearly designed for Aglaea and Herta and the massive HP inflation. No need to defend it by going against the players.
@@guiltikrow6897 I mean yeah, if you've spent upwards of $2K on 2 characters, I think you've managed to pay your way into being able to clear anything 😂
Star Rail has no powercreep problem at the moment since over a year now, since 1.4, almost every unit is viable and has a well defined niche in the meta (SU, PF, AS), please do your research first before making a video
New players are screwed. So many missing pieces. Four star characters aree really bad. Except few.
I'm new, started last month. I can't attest to anything yet, but I do feel like life would be better if I had specific units that came from previous updates so that I could have an easier time with endgame content.
@@kuvrut7747 the upcoming reruns are good, really try get a Robin. Once the new DPS drops, focus on that and abuse RMC
@@yattyyhe has still a problem bcuz he need 2 teams💀
@@theorangecandleruan mei is not new tho, you just went for the best meta options that were available when you could pull and ignored other units like jade and boothil that despite being new were not as universally strong as the units you pulled
Tbh, i think alot of these issues could be fix if Hoyo just swallow their pride and buff/rework older characters. There's literally no reason not to when older units will never make as much revenue as new ones unless they're fan favourite and in fact it even increase the revenue for those older units because people would want to see their favorite characters get buff and invest in them even more
It's illegal tho they can get sued for that so they cant risk it I mean they tried buffing some older charecters like jingyuan and he's decent now higher than dan heng and jingliu atleast and they also successfully buffed himeko she is literally insane right now and will become even better with hertas release
imo its better to release supports for older units like how they did with jingyuan
Also, the entire game literally has 2 and a half shielders 2 of which are 5*, like come on 🙄
Fu xuan is still doing really well. Provided you use the technique before starting the fight which you can always do
@@Duarte_GB Definitely not as good as before.
@JustSkii thats largely because imo the gameplay in genshin is so simple that the characters being different in kits is easy
Why did you bring Yelan up, she was never a main dps at C0 ever.
@JustSkii That's quite interesting and true, indeed characters have verry similar kits,so the powercreep of the older character is verry obvious
It feels really bad that most 4 stars are pretty much unusable, there are a lot of fan favorites that are left in the dust.
They need to do banners for exclusive light cones character-specific able to make 4 stars as strong as 5.
7:28 I beat that side with Dan heng IL Version 1 team (no sparkle) by 31 points no needa brag. (I had to use feixiao first half💀💀)
its not just damage that gets powercrept but also sustain.
Nah that's fair, I guess its more accurate to say a 'good chunk' of their end game content.
The mental dps is deffo up there
Practical solutions to the current issues:
1- An exclusive way to buff older units.
Whilst they may make a team with Dr ratio better, it's not the same level as what they do for Feixiao
Firefly is 100% not good without HMC or Fugue.
This MoC 12 is the first one I haven't been able to clear....
i saw someone say that powercreep in star rail makes endgame clears somewhat boring and i have to say thats also what i feel, like, they couldn't have worded it better. like, in hi3 and genshin, i wait for the reset of the weekly/biweekly modes respectively with anticipation (heck abyss in hi3 is 2 times per week, so its not even weekly), in hsr i dread it.
i like malding a little bit in hi3 abyss for hopefully scoring better than one or two people who have better gear than me, because even if i cant, it doesn't change much what rewards i get, as long as i dont demote, and even if i do, its like 40-80xtal lost for that reset, i can get it back usually, plus demotion if im not in a tight rope isnt even a question for one or two bad weathers
in genshin, i love the theater and really like doing abyss to some degree (to some degree cuz they like their time waster bosses sometimes), i dunno, i just like them, even if i do get a bit mad at abyss sometimes
in hsr i dread when MoC, PF or Apoc Shadow reset, they feel like a chore...
id even say its not about team variety, hi3 you have like 12 chars that actually are relevant and they make like 6 teams
Really underrated video my guy glad I stumbled upon it.
Much appreciated
9:12 the actually did this in apoc shadows one of the choose able buffs buffed quantum dmg a ton so you could use a seele team
8:17 700% is not triple of 425% lol
Feixiao does have a higher ult multiplier, but it's (6 x 90%) + 160% for a total of 700% as stated at the start of the description
@@meltysap1679 I misspoke, I was meant to say around double after factoring in her A4 and A6. I'll add a pinned comment. My bad
(She knocked my cycles used for moc from about 8-6)
Meta shifts and powercreep do exist, but it's less oppressive than a lot of CCs make it seem. having to pull only 8 characters in a total of 20 months is only about 1 character every two and a half months.
since the bulk of F2P jades are from dailies and events, they should add a cutscene skip button.
it is a self fulfilling prophecy. they themselves set the expectations for powercreep, now they have to keep the ball rolling or else people will skip fearing of the next unit. and seeing as it got mentioned: arknights is probably the only game left where powercreep is meaningless since you can clear with anyone and they do not powercreep this hard (there has only been like 5 in 5 years of service and they are all completely not needed still, they just make life easier.
- sometimes the buffs given are straight awful and keeps favoring the same characters over and over
In correlation:
- the hp inflation is countered by the newest characters at most
- usually if the boss has a certain or not so looked mechanic, coincidentally newer characters have also tools to overxounter or directly ignore those.
-this same issue also favors newer characters, whata a surprise.
Moving aside bosses:
-sets can be, sometimes, too specially designed for the new characters or a too spececific type of characters, which is a double edge sword cause sets like the mara and some planetary are too niche or directly garbage to use at full, while at the same time the spacetracker, talia and bananaspace aged/can still age like fine wine.
The more the game goes on, the more likely it is to end up with older characters suddenly being good (like Huohuo most likely being Aglaea's best sustain)
I don't think its possible for Hoyo to keep designing new characters while completely making older ones useless. Dps wise? Absolutely. But like in any gacha, the supports will stay relevant the longest.
Ofc it sucks when your team becomes obsolete but some amount of powercreep is bound to happen eventually. Not all games can be Arknights after all! 🎉
But I think the free pulls we get is fairly generous too, tho? It's one 5 star every patch. Plenty of games that don't give that.
Pretty sure you'd don't get enough for Q guaranteed 5 star per patch it's like 110 pulls per patch. That 1 5* if you never lose the 50/50
@Duarte_GB Okay, it's a quaranteed LIMITED 5 star every 2 patches.
@@happypepper9326 Honestly, that's the best way to never feel bad in a gacha game
@@yattyy oh well fair enough
Idc of the powercreep stuffs, my teams are fully built, I don't need to use that "specific" character to clear the content.
I just use
• Acheron, black swan, kafka, and aventurine
• Firefly(earlier March 7th hunt), ruan mei, Gallagher and htb.
34/36 isn't exactly clearing clearing friend.
Great read tbh
interesting point about DoT and we'd tend to agree. there's still plenty of room for growth for the archetype, at least presuming hoyo gets back around to it. whereas with someone like Sunday, considered a huge buff to 1.x hypercarry units, only Jing Yuan can actually utilize his whole kit, everyone else (Seele, DHIL, Jingliu) are missing at least a 50% dmg bonus, making him mostly there for the SP economy since his skill buff is pretty much half that of Bronya's.
I just dropped the game a couple days ago, shit got too overwhelming.
To be fare dr.ratio wrecks that boss theres vids out there of it but i agree the powercreep is alot these days
Current characters are literally being powercrept by the very next patch. I'm a low spender and I can't keep up with this shit anymore.
Overload
you didn't touch on this too deep so i will add my opinion on this but i also think people is confusing improvement with powercreep and let me explain this.
At the end of day hsr is still business, they need to make money, maybe the dev did want to go back and fix old char but the higher up say no, it free game but not a charity, they need to make money, i won't said it good or bad but it business, people have to understand that money invest back into game don't translated back to same amount profit they earn back from that investment, sometime they invest more than they gain back so putting all the profit back into the game is also not the way to do it and frankly it dumb move
side note: i think FGO actually have the best buff system from all the game i play, as many of their buff actually impactful more than example you bring up, and to this day i haven't seen much game able to replicate their success with buff char, it also able to dodge most law around adjusting already release product in some gacha law.
