If you'd lead into corner 2 on that final lap, that win would have been in the bag!...My 1965 1300cc Beetle has also finished ahead of Mustangs, Falcons and Galaxies in Historic Touring Car Racing as the VW is much better under brakes and through the corners, but I don't have the power to compete against the best of the V8's. Well done and more onboards please!

The iron pigs are not fair! A well prepared Mustang (low and hard) could be as quick as a Mini in corners! The Mustang drivers have no skills in cornering! They have nothing but their engine power on straights! The blocking is very unfair! Those bad drivers should be ashamed after this race!
BMC/Leyland never put the development money into it that they needed to - partially because outside wartime, British engineering never did, but also partially because they didn't have enough money - they undercharged on each Mini they sold.
The mini gains 5-10 car lengths per corner showing Maustags can't corner. He is backing off in the corners so he doesn't hit the slow cornering Mustangs. OK overall American cars can't corner is more accurate. Isn't I5 a staightline. They have a huge advantage on the straight away but Mustangs SUCK in corners.

Jim Henry they were optional extras and absolutely terrible. Also an option in 1997 for the Cooper Touring, but not a true factory fit.

What engine is in the Mini?
The engine is limited by historic racing regs to a 1293cc A-series with twin SU carbs. These put out around 125bhp@8000rpm
