  • Getting a good sound on soprano sax requires that we develop good air support and some embouchure strength. There are lots of exercises that are specific to those things, but here I offer a little change. In this video, I focus on how to be an honest listener while you gain skill on the soprano.
Ultimately, it is all about SOUND. And the approach we take here is concerned with every aspect of your sound.
Done slowly with care, and done regularly, you'll find your tone improved and your listening become finer and more acute.
AND..... try to work with NO VIBRATO. Let the notes be themselves, without manipulation. This is an important part of it.
It's a meditation on sound and technique, with sound being the teacher. When I work this way, I'll do it for 20 minutes to a half hour, at least, often longer. My goal is to build strength and tone, so I am never in a hurry to be finished.
Give it a try for a few weeks and HEAR what happens.
