He was my absolute favorite in those classic years, I read his first book, loved tons of programs he was involved with & he was spectacular at Promos, Matches, & just standing out on the roster, he was a god. I wish he could've retired with some dignity when he needed to
I love too how he compares his career to KISS, white-hot & spectacular in their first run then when KISS got stale they had to reinvent themselves & "take the makeup off" but in the end they both stayed too long at the party & KISS devolved into a total sham the last 10+ years of their career, same goes for Jericho it seems like
I know alot of folks in the comments are criticizing Jericho or saying hes washed. But I just wanna add that Chris Jericho was one of my favorite wrestlers during the attitude era, probably only behind Steve Austin. Jericho is a legend and all time great, even if his last couple of years in wrestling haven't been that great.
He’s done a lot of great things that can never be disputed. Had one hell of a career for sure but his run in AEW over the last couple of years has highlighted the importance of knowing when to hang up the boots. His promos are terrible and cringey now, his matches are dreadful and he brings the people he’s working with down instead of raising them up like he should be as a legend.
Oh, same with me. Jericho was my favourite wrestler in the world in the early 00s and he was a tremendous performer. But 20 years on, he has fallen a LONG way whereas his ego has only grown.
@@narenmappat576he didn’t even elevate MJF imo. Held him back for however long their programme together was. Jericho has been nothing more than a leach in AEW. Anybody who is popular or is on the come up work with Jericho and it’s not so Chris can elevate them up to his once obtained level it’s so he can remain in the spotlight for as long as he can. That’s stopped happening right now because there aren’t many in AEW that have that buzz around them anymore that Jericho hasn’t already tried to latch onto.
People aren’t chanting “please retire” because Jericho has “heel heat,” they’re chanting it because it’s painful to see him try and work a match when it’s obvious that he can’t perform up to standards anymore. Undertaker retired for that very reason, in his head he could still go, but his body was telling him something completely different. Sometimes you have to know when to hang it up. Jericho’s become Mickey Rourke’s character in “The Wrestler.” He’s become the very thing he hated in WCW: a worn out old timer who can’t hang anymore but won’t give up the spotlight because of his ego. Jericho’s a legend in the business, nobody’s denying that, but people want to remember his career for its highs like beating Rock and Stone Cold in the same night, not for bumbling around in a match against Dax Harwood. And if he keeps going, all people are gonna talk about is his recent AEW run, which hasn’t been that great if we’re being honest.
definitely time to retire. he’s a huge part of why aew is crumbling. instead of acting like a vet he’s following along with the bs stuff the younger guys do. not too mention he just looks so slow and old. which honestly makes you appreciate guys like macho man even more because he still had really good matches in wcw late in his career.
Machoman was in his early-mid 40s in WCW. Jericho is in his mid 50s, and he's only started slowing down these last two years. I still remember how amazing the match with Omega was in New Japan.
@@LCE040490AEW is in horrible shape. Every metric is lower than it has ever been. Aew will always exist though, as long as Tony’s dad is there to lose money on it
I met Jericho a while back, before he moved to AEW, I asked him what his plans where, this was 2018, he said he didn't want to "exaust his quota with the public because he didn't want to be a hogan or flair and hang on to world titles in his 50s"...now he's the ROH world champion, in his 50s, putting himself over the younger talent...
Jericho is an absolute legend! Part of the reason he's been such a valuable performer is how he has always been able to evolve his character over the years. Now he's working alongside the younger stars to make the most of their potential. But he's still got value as a brand. There's a reason why he was the first champion in AEW, because he was the biggest name on the roster and it gave everyone else a target to push towards.
The fans control wrestling. If the majority of fans are telling you youre washed at wrestling, youre washed. Mans also a two hit wonder in music and acts like he made a fantastic album.
I know Jericho is a legend, but he needs to understand for people who have just recently been introduced or re-introduced to wrestling this is the only memory we have of him - and it sucks. The Rock, Stone Cold, even modern day legends like CM Punk and Orton, they've always been good and stil are. Jericho's legacy is going to be permanently stained by the last couple of years
I love Chris. He went from being underrated to almost overrated. Great in ring, great on the mic. Solid career. I hope he stops soon and doesn't pull a Ric Flair.
He’s already in the Ric Flair stage of his career. Hugely outstayed his welcome right now. Promos are awful, matches are even worse and you could argue it’s down to the creative but when Jericho more than likely has complete control of his own creative you can only point the finger mainly at him. TK is slightly to blame for not doing what’s best for his TV show and right now what’s best for his show is Jericho being nowhere near it
One of the GOATS! 🐐 Personally I still love Jericho. I'm not the biggest fan of this learning tree gimmick, but I don't hate it either. Either way, I still love seeing Jericho on my TV in 2025!
Chris Jericho knows his worth. Period. If there is one thing you should take away from Jericho regardless of the business you are in, it's know your worth. Be aware of what you bring to the table and don't be afraid to bet on yourself. All hail the eye a tollah of rock n' Rolla!!!
when i first started watching wrestling, it was Jericho the heel attacking Dean Malenko in WCW in late 90s. i didnt understand the heel dynamics at the time, but it was them and the fellow cruiserweights that made me a lifetime fan
One thing I agree is that Jericho gets all the hate even though Tony makes the majority of his booking decisions. Jericho just does what he's asked to.
The difference between Cena & Jericho is Cena knows it is time for him to get out and he has other revenue of income. Jericho trying to hold on his glory days
Hear me out: for the first two years he carried the company with the Inner Circle and he should’ve won way more titles then he did. That he didn’t hold tag team gold with Sammy was a huge miss for example. But everything he did after just wasn’t working. I could see him hold a few midcard belts to put younger talent over, but he simply doesn’t work as a top guy anymore, he’s just too slow and too out of shape.
I don’t get how John Cena having a retirement tour is having a large “ego”. John wants to give back to the fans ALL OVER THE WORLD. A retirement tour allows him to give one last lasting memory to that fan, that will last a lifetime, and a way of John saying “thank you for supporting me all these years” I’m a fan of Jericho, but imo bad take.
23:52 Well apparently as I saw the titles, one of them saying that fans chanted "Please retire" to Jericho, I can confirm that Chris Jericho is henceforth the new Ric Flair lol. Still one of the greatest pro wrestlers in History ever .
Jericho is an horrific watch in 2025 which is why his segments get ever decreasing ratings, his work is awful and he looks awful. Being great b4 doesn't excuse it.
I think jericho has become the guru of wrestling business. Prolly the analytical and the psychological effects about everything around wrestling business i think he somehow knows it all.
I lasted 27 minutes, but that's all I can manage for this episode I think. There is no way he is serious with the self assessments he's giving here. This is tragic.
There's a difference between disliking a character for the basis of a story, and disliking the work of the performer. I can hate Joffrey in Game of Thrones, but think Jack Glesson's acting was great; this is not that. This is everyone thinking Christopher Irvine's wrestling work, whether that be in or outside of the ring, as a performer in 2025, is bad, and they don't want to see it on their TV. You can't just say "Heels are supposed to be hated" and act like that's a 'Get out of Jail Free' card for every negative reaction shown by fans towards an onscreen bad guy. The amount of sheer ego and self delusion to chalk that up to "well I guess I'm doing my job right" is astounding. Hang the boots up Jericho, it's done.
I’m starting to believe Jericho is trying to become the first wrestler ever, who has had such obvious go away heat with a audience, but is continuing to try make the fans become so fucking sick and tired of seeing him. That he’ll turn that go away heat into money drawing heat, where all those fans chanting “Please retire” will eventually wanna pay to see someone finally beat the fuck out of him. That’s the only logical explanation I can think of why Jericho is continuing to do this awful fucking gimmick. Especially since he’s been in the wrestling business for well over 30 years now and knows that go away heat is the type of heat you absolutely never want when your a heel.
Honestly Jericho is the best thing to happen to AEW. whether u love him or hate him hes always there doing something innovative. even while doing well in the ring he almost always does a really good job of helping elevate the people around him and his opponents.
I agree he’s getting older and slower but his knowledge of the buisness is limitless and all the people hating on him don’t understand that he might not be over with the hardcore fans anymore but he’s still in most of the highest rated segments AEW does cause he’s a star and fucking hall of famer and the casuals know his name cause he’s one of the all time greats
People can say what they want bout his current stuff in AEW but Jericho is a legend and deserves more respect than he gets on here or on X. Comon everyone do better.
1996-2016 Jericho is one of the greatest ever. He deserves that respect. Its clear the issue is he needs a creative filter to stop him from doing dumb stuff like he has done in AEW in the last couple years but dont let it take away from the fact this man was universally adored for decades. He hasnt done anything wrong personally so the hate he gets is ridiculous and shows the fragile psyche of most wrestling fans.

Jericho is a legend and all time great, even if his last couple of years in wrestling haven't been that great.
His legacy is great. But his current work is just diminishing what he did in the past
I DONT GIVE A FUCK HES WORK IS ASSS BRUH
He’s done a lot of great things that can never be disputed. Had one hell of a career for sure but his run in AEW over the last couple of years has highlighted the importance of knowing when to hang up the boots.
His promos are terrible and cringey now, his matches are dreadful and he brings the people he’s working with down instead of raising them up like he should be as a legend.
Oh, same with me. Jericho was my favourite wrestler in the world in the early 00s and he was a tremendous performer. But 20 years on, he has fallen a LONG way whereas his ego has only grown.
Chris really believes he elevated all those guys he worked with... wow 😂
I doubt that Jericho really believes that. The only one who really does is Tony Khan.
He could name one person he elevated ..MJF ...rest .. Hager, Sami, JAS dudes ..where are they now ?
@@narenmappat576he didn’t even elevate MJF imo. Held him back for however long their programme together was. Jericho has been nothing more than a leach in AEW. Anybody who is popular or is on the come up work with Jericho and it’s not so Chris can elevate them up to his once obtained level it’s so he can remain in the spotlight for as long as he can. That’s stopped happening right now because there aren’t many in AEW that have that buzz around them anymore that Jericho hasn’t already tried to latch onto.
@@Sp3ar. jeez cant disagree on that; remember that awfil cassidy few with orange chamapgne cause people liked cassidy?!
What is it with people in wrestling saying it’s bigger than ever, we all know it’s clearly not the case.
It is,but in WWE
The business opportunity is bigger that’s about it
People aren’t chanting “please retire” because Jericho has “heel heat,” they’re chanting it because it’s painful to see him try and work a match when it’s obvious that he can’t perform up to standards anymore.
And jericho is younger then undertaker when he retired.
*justified chants
WHAT ? WHAT ? WHAT ? WHAT ?
Glad to have RUclips Premium, that is an insane amount of ads he’s tried to squeeze in!
Glad to use adblockers, didn't even know there were ads in the video!
Not liking a heel character and not wanting someone on your screen are 2 completely different things. Jericho needs to learn the difference.
A reaction is a reaction. Wrestlers lose their jobs when there isn’t a reaction as that highlights people don’t care either way.
Lecturing a legend from your keyboard 💀
@ someone’s gotta say it. It’s an opinion at the end of the day but a popular one.
Chris Jericho is definitely one of the wrestlers of all time
definitely time to retire. he’s a huge part of why aew is crumbling. instead of acting like a vet he’s following along with the bs stuff the younger guys do. not too mention he just looks so slow and old. which honestly makes you appreciate guys like macho man even more because he still had really good matches in wcw late in his career.
Aew isn't crumbling
Machoman was in his early-mid 40s in WCW. Jericho is in his mid 50s, and he's only started slowing down these last two years. I still remember how amazing the match with Omega was in New Japan.
@@LCE040490 you’re right. its in ruin.
100%. So true. He is one of the big examples why that company isn’t succeeding
@@LCE040490AEW is in horrible shape. Every metric is lower than it has ever been. Aew will always exist though, as long as Tony’s dad is there to lose money on it
CVV has just been putting out banger, after banger after banger! BTW I think you should interview Jacob Fatu!
44:19 Hank Hill impression was spot on
I met Jericho a while back, before he moved to AEW, I asked him what his plans where, this was 2018, he said he didn't want to "exaust his quota with the public because he didn't want to be a hogan or flair and hang on to world titles in his 50s"...now he's the ROH world champion, in his 50s, putting himself over the younger talent...
Please retire, Jericho
Jericho: ratings don’t matter anymore.
Also Jericho: my segments are the highest rated on the show.
Idk why but Jericho is one of the delusional cocky guys I actually enjoy. Compared to Cm punk I can stand Chris Jericho way more
We are hoping you retire because we love you Jericho. You were my favorite wrestler since I saw you live in Cincinnati in 98
For real used to be so great. He’s AWFUL now and it’s ruining his legacy
The fans control wrestling.
If the majority of fans are telling you youre washed at wrestling, youre washed. Mans also a two hit wonder in music and acts like he made a fantastic album.
Oh no ! We lost CVV to the Jericho Vortex.
I know Jericho is a legend, but he needs to understand for people who have just recently been introduced or re-introduced to wrestling this is the only memory we have of him - and it sucks.
The Rock, Stone Cold, even modern day legends like CM Punk and Orton, they've always been good and stil are.
Jericho's legacy is going to be permanently stained by the last couple of years
The blinking blue light behind Jericho 😖
*You just made the list!*
oh look his last good gimmick
Even if you are not a wrestling fan, everyone on the planet knows 2 things about wrestling bar none: 1. Hulk Hogan exists.
2. The Walls of Jericho.
TK is slightly to blame for not doing what’s best for his TV show and right now what’s best for his show is Jericho being nowhere near it
Next level delusional
The issue with AEW is it is ALL OVER the place. There might be some good things but the stories are never strong enough to hold anything together.
Retire Jericho. PLEASE
I wanna see this guy on his back in every match he has for the rest of his career
Y2J has sadly become the same as the old top spot hogging vets he always said he despised in WCW...
He's not in a top spot tho... Only on RoH because they're trying to get a TV deal. Othereise he's put a lot of people over.
top 5 favorite wrestler all time for me
One of the GOATS! 🐐
Personally I still love Jericho. I'm not the biggest fan of this learning tree gimmick, but I don't hate it either. Either way, I still love seeing Jericho on my TV in 2025!
When Chris asks Jericho about what’s the difference about wrestling now and Jericho responded in ring or business? It was a genius response
Chris Jericho knows his worth. Period. If there is one thing you should take away from Jericho regardless of the business you are in, it's know your worth. Be aware of what you bring to the table and don't be afraid to bet on yourself. All hail the eye a tollah of rock n' Rolla!!!
His worth is decreasing every day😂😂
when i first started watching wrestling, it was Jericho the heel attacking Dean Malenko in WCW in late 90s. i didnt understand the heel dynamics at the time, but it was them and the fellow cruiserweights that made me a lifetime fan
One thing I agree is that Jericho gets all the hate even though Tony makes the majority of his booking decisions. Jericho just does what he's asked to.
Because Jericho does a lot of his creative. Whether it’s Tony’s decision or not, Jericho ruins wrestlers and it’s annoying
No he's not. He's had more say in what he does than anyone else. Do your homework.
are you dense
@@user-vl6rf9ou7hGive me a concrete source other than JR and I'll concede. Otherwise it's just more internet rumors.
I could see him hold a few midcard belts to put younger talent over, but he simply doesn’t work as a top guy anymore, he’s just too slow and too out of shape.
chris can we please get jey uso on here
I don’t get how John Cena having a retirement tour is having a large “ego”. John wants to give back to the fans ALL OVER THE WORLD. A retirement tour allows him to give one last lasting memory to that fan, that will last a lifetime, and a way of John saying “thank you for supporting me all these years” I’m a fan of Jericho, but imo bad take.
You know what happens to people who think he should retire? YOU JUST MADE THE LIST!

23:52 Well apparently as I saw the titles, one of them saying that fans chanted "Please retire" to Jericho, I can confirm that Chris Jericho is henceforth the new Ric Flair lol. Still one of the greatest pro wrestlers in History ever .
He’s not still that great. He has ruined his legacy
@ I understand u
Everyone who’s sticking up for Jericho hasn’t watched AEW recently, bro’s segments are clapped.
Jericho is an horrific watch in 2025 which is why his segments get ever decreasing ratings, his work is awful and he looks awful. Being great b4 doesn't excuse it.
Jericho honestly thinks he is the smartest person in the wrestling business.
he's old, they should give him an office job and give the ROH talents something to go for
These episodes have been absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to see who’s up next. Keep crushing it, buddy! 🤘🏻💪🏻
I think jericho has become the guru of wrestling business. Prolly the analytical and the psychological effects about everything around wrestling business i think he somehow knows it all.
Great interview!! I've been a fan since his WCW days and I always will be.
A whole comment section of people proving Chris right 😂😂😂
Great interview. Big fan of Jericho. In my top 10 favourites of all time.
The REAL Best In The World. Absolute GOAT.
I lasted 27 minutes, but that's all I can manage for this episode I think. There is no way he is serious with the self assessments he's giving here. This is tragic.
Jericho has ruined his legacy. He now belongs in the Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash club. Just a big bloated leech on the wrestling business.
Greatest of all time in terms of longevity. He was there in the peak of ECW, WCW, WWF, WWE, AEW, and NJPW
Yet people like you still watch him. If people actually hated him, they wouldn't do that.
Top guy Jericho
I’ve heard Jericho say all of these things before. He’s becoming the old guy who tells the same stories over and over.
“In my mind I’m already in the HOF” such a Jericho thing to say and I love it.
"The Jericho Vortex". dude basically admitted to listening to Jim Cornette and particularly Brian Last
Or WrestleTalk
Honestly Jericho is the best thing to happen to AEW. whether u love him or hate him hes always there doing something innovative. even while doing well in the ring he almost always does a really good job of helping elevate the people around him and his opponents.
I can say fuck yeah to this
I agree he’s getting older and slower but his knowledge of the buisness is limitless and all the people hating on him don’t understand that he might not be over with the hardcore fans anymore but he’s still in most of the highest rated segments AEW does cause he’s a star and fucking hall of famer and the casuals know his name cause he’s one of the all time greats
Jericho is steadily on his way to become the next Hogan.
People can say what they want bout his current stuff in AEW but Jericho is a legend and deserves more respect than he gets on here or on X. Comon everyone do better.
My favourite Jericho era was the era against Angle and Benoit and the KO era. One of the best 👏🏻
I still have the picture I took with Jericho during my first wwe event I went to, I'll never forget that memory. He'll always have my respect
Jericho is such a GREAT story teller & one of the most phycological wrestling minds EVER. Everrrrrrrr
Its go away heat, we dont want jericho to die, we just want him off the tv. You could say its a tk issue but hes the one on tv.
Chris definitely held he's own against anyone
I think I’m one of the only people in existence who has liked the learning tree since it started. I think it’s hilarious
Jericho Is Delusional.
