    Here's a tip for using the grip mat with layering stencils. Use the largest one, and place the Wendy Vecchi Make Art acrylic L-shaped magnet, or the L-shaped portion of an acrylic stamp positioner, on top of the mat, near the corner. Then you can place your stencil in the corner of the acrylic piece and still have both your corner and the stickiness.

    Here's another tip, my friend and I discussed the grip mats remind us of our gelli plates and sure enough those gelli plates/mats work just as good as the Grip Mats, the only difference is the gelli are thicker and won't fit into the misti. But they're great for everything else 😃

    I have a suggestion. If u want 2 keep ur plastics on ur gripmats, b4 taking them off, write 'ON' on the outside. U will then always put the good(not dusty) side back on the mat as it will say 'NO' if u put it the wrong way. Hope that makes sense. Thanks 4 sharing Justine

    I bought the Misti-size grip mat and I LOVE it! I considered the 8 1/2" square one too but held off to see how happy I was with the Misti-size. I found it useful for not only stamping but also for stenciling in the Misti and passed on any other size.
    Since my grip mat stays inside the Misti, the Misti's corner is perfectly useful for orienting layered stencils.
    My tip is to put a thin strip of washi tape on the top of the acrylic protective sheets so I can find them easily when I'm ready to re-attach them. With my grip mat permanently installed inside the Misti and I just put one protective sheet over it before I flip the top on the Misti and put it away.
    The Waffle Flower grip mat has to rank right up at the top with the Misti for money well spent!

    I bought a similar product from Peddler’s Den right before Waffle Flower came out with these. That one is an odd size, but I find that it’s great for stenciling. The WF in the Misti size has made all the difference in the world. I do place the top acetate sheet on top before putting away the Misti, as I have two very fluffy furballs (long-haired cats). I was thinking of removing the grid so it grips better, but now I may cut it down like you did, as I don’t make anything larger than 5x7 either. I had not considered the 8.5 square, but I do have a few stencils that are larger than usual. It might be worth it. Thanks for the thorough review!

    Thank you very much for this review, Justine! It's very timely for me, as I've been considering getting a grip mat. I like that you used it for a couple of months before reviewing, and so could speak from a position of some authority & practicality, rather than just jump in & parrot what the manufacturer says. You have definitely convinced me to go ahead & get one. Thank you again. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)

    I have this mat for both my regular and mini Misti’s and found that for my regular one I used the grid transparency from the mini Misti instead of the larger one so the mat doesn’t shift which I found it did using the grid transparency for that size mat. I think I need to wash mine because the sticky is lacking although I haven’t used it much. I leave it in my Misti for storage and cut down an acetate sheet to put over most of it. Great review!

    Now that I’ve watched, great detailed review. My only question for me concerns stenciling. I use yellow Frog Tape or similar low stick tape just at the top of a stencil as a hinge, which Tim Holtz taught me (and a million other people).
    The stencil is lifted up to check the paste or ink application, and is plopped back down to continue, whether it’s adding more paste, switching colors on the fly, whatever.
    I’ve done it that way on my magnetic glass mat (no magnets), on the Tim Holtz glass mat before it and on my very old Ranger teflon mat before that. So I don’t see a benefit for stenciling, though will still try it since maybe I’m missing something obvious.
    And I can see it being very handy for stamping, so I’ll get one. Thanks so much!

    Ma'am, I really wanted to see you use the sticky mat in the MISTY, with stamps, closing its door, and then reopening it. I would love to be able to use the stamping door without magnets as the neodymium magnets seem to be taller than my stamps or the paper sticks to the stamps whenever I open the door.

  • @avrawilliams8675
    @avrawilliams8675 8 месяцев назад

    I purchased the Misti size but haven't used it in my Misti yet. I've been using it on my glass mat for stenciling. I keep the grid mat on the bottom so only the edges are exposed and adhere to my glass mat, making it easier to remove. I plan to eventually get the largest size for stenciling so I can keep this one in my misti.

    Glad to see you are finding this a useful tool. I had purchased the grip mats in the Misti size and recently added ones in the Mini-Misti and largest size. I love the Waffle Flower Grip mat. However, I just found out that the Tim Holtz Distress Specialty Stamping Paper REALLY sticks to the grip mat to the point I had to tear the paper off the mat and run it under water to get the rest of the stuck paper off it. I guess I can try again if I really de-sticky the mat. Just an FYI to crafters out there. I love this paper, it blends beautifully for stencils.

    Any suggestion beside rinse under water, wash with soap and water to make the grip mat sticky again. I've only used it a few times and the sticky is gone nothing, even after doing these things to it. Am I missing something here, or did I get a defected product? What little bit it did work it was great, but certainly not worth the money if the sticky don't come back. Very sad, such high hopes for this. I wonder if the altnew grip mat works any better, anyone use one?

    I can’t make up my mind about Waffle Flower’s Grip Mat. I mean it cannot be a complete replacement for either tape or repositioning spray adhesive, can it? One, paper isn’t the only substrate I stencil.-there’s also walls, fabric, boxes, etc. Second, the repositioning spray is more for delicate stencil parts that actually touch the substrate and not simply to hold a stencil in place. Third, I cannot see getting away from tape while using dies.
    I also have just about every size and shape of gel plate available. If I wanted to I could use those for stenciling on top of paper. Or ink blending for that matter.
    On the other hand, I am wondering if the Grip Mats work better in the MISTI than the foam pad. I will probably get the 6.5 x 8.5 Grip Mat if I can ever find it in stock. It’s inexpensive so even if I live to regret it, it won’t be too upsetting.
    I keep thinking about tools like The Melting Pot, which I bought back in the day when Suze Weinberg was the embossing powder queen and Tim Holtz still worked for Ranger. Suze Weinberg is still around I think. Don’t know what she’s doing but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a relatively recent photo somewhere.
    I bought the pot only to learn that an electric griddle or skillet was far superior for crafting. Not only more surface area but actually easier to use. I didn’t pay full price (remember the days when big box craft stores would let us stack coupons?).
    Envelope Punch Board was a finicky bust too. I didn’t pay for that at all fortunately. A local scrapbooking store gave it to me as a loyalty present.
    It’s hard to get over the mound of tools that didn’t live up to the hype though, so I’m looking at the WF Grip Mat with a jaundiced eye.

    I don’t like that peeling the cardstock off of the grip mat, bends the cardstock fibers, or curves it - then you have to flatten it or iron it. The green grid lines create confusion as you can see 2 sets of lines when overlaid on the MISTI grid. It’s OK as a tool, but I don’t see the need for it…. I do use it to hold my Wendy Vecchi mat still on my Tim holtz glass mat. Thank. You for reviewing actual use

    • @justinehovey
      @justinehovey  2 месяца назад

      I agree. In the end I put it in the Misti without the grid and I’m happier. I bend the grip mat back rather than the cardstock when I’m working with thinner cardstock. Similar to how I would remove things off a cricut mat. Thanks for sharing your experience!
