You can't simply listen to Eric Johnson's music for "just a few minutes" and move on with your day. Shit hits you really hard. It's physically impossible. For EJ's music it's always one of these days where I will reservate hours on end just focused on listening to it, contemplating about my whole existence and if I really accomplished something, and then after all that I will probably cry to pieces. My soul is purified and I will have the strength to attempt living in a functional state for 6 more months. Shit hits you heavy.
Just before you think it couldn't get any better, the song pretends to end and then the outro reprise solo kicks in with the flanger pedals set out of phase 180 degrees apart from each other creating that huge "Woooshhh" sound. You can close your eyes and picture the Marshall logo and grill cloth falling off the speaker cabinet in this magic moment. Epic.
Yes, I can listen to that section over and over again and never get tired of it. You can really hear his classical influences there. That part is so intricate and rocking at the same time.
Although I Like hearing to a lot good players I dont Know but I think that Eric has a legendary unique style of playing and this makes him my best quitar player!!!
I know Eric Johson, but I had no CD's from him until, I saw a video from him on RUclips. Bought immediately 3 of best CD'S E.J made. Including this one. The Venus Reprise is a master piece. Play it loud on your stereo equipment and enjoy. Glenn
It must be painful for him to perform this live and relive what was going on at the time. We are lucky this even got recorded to tape at all. Once in a lifetime achievement.
Hope EJ plays this entire album live on tour like ah via musicom, venus isle's guitar work is superb & getting Jessica Simpson to model the album cover is eye candy!
Interesting little tidbit: Venus Reprise originally had vocals, and--prior to the recording and release of Venus Isle--was performed live with the vocals included. The song was originally titled "We'll Find Our Way Through the Mountain". Why Eric decided to remove the vocals, I have no idea. The original song seemed good enough, but I cannot complain about what we have here. Venus Isle is an excellent record.
I've seen it only labeled as "Mountain". Eric used to do this in live performances: We'll get over that Mountain, We'll find a way that we can get by, I supposed that he had other plans for it. This album originally was to be called "Long Path Meadow" in some of the guitar magazine articles, but it transformed into "Venus Isle", which, I think, was Eric's ode to Hendrix. The coda for Mountain is very much like the coda for Axis Bold as Love. Before Prince, Hendrix was most associated with the concept of Venus or the color purple.
Anyone who approaches music in this way is going about it all wrong. Poor, pathetic creatures who gain no enjoyment from life other than putting everything on a value scale/competitive arena.
I went on a few dates with a born again christian chick and I was listening to this one day while driving. She got all pissed that i was listening to "new age" devil music. I tried to explain to her he's a famous guitar player, but she almost threw it out the car window. Needless to say, I broke up with her couple days later. Never talked to her again after that.
She must've been really sheltered to think Eric Johnson was devil music. I mean I could see her making that mistake if it was Number of the Beast. This is pretty tame rock and mostly instrumental.

Love how he can tell a story with a guitar.....sad thing is only 100k people have seen this and I’m about 50k of them.
the art work of music.
The transition from Pavilion to Venus Reprise is insanely excellent! Pure excellence.
The solo that begins at 2:12 makes me shiver. He kills it so hard. One of my favorite solos of all time.

Man this whole album was awsome
Excellence and beauty.
The musician from outer space. This guy is not human. 10/10
What a sweeeeet melodies going out here... Among The sweetest song I ever heard.

bridge f/ Pavilion to Venus Reprise is the musical equivalent of being rocketed into the 4th dimension
WELL said, solo starting at 3:31 took me out...BUT that bridge you mention is another step UP...As the Reprise solo instantly betrays...
Although I Like hearing to a lot good players I dont Know but I think that Eric has a legendary unique style of playing and this makes him my best quitar player!!!
Madman, absolutely!! Cant get enough!!
I feel like I'm playing an intense level on Sonic TH while listening to this
Eric Johnson Amazing instrumental Rock great congratulations i love his music

This song is just an emotional journey. I hope Eric adds it back to his set list at some point.

It doesnt matter when or why, this goes with everything.
omg this song is tooo good! even the ending solo is incredible!
i'd rate the lead in this song as the best in music history. 2nd is the lead in Battle Lines by Steve Morse.
+Umbrian2003 Lol, both tracks you mention killer, love them a lot, BUT rock history? That means you left out HENDRIX...Not to mention Jeff Beck...
Peter Short and yingve malmsteim and Joe satriani...
@@Umbrian2003 I honestly agree. I have never heard a single lead tone that smooth, its from a different dimension. Amazing. And he kills that solo.
best album ever
Way better than Vai and Satriani imo. So much more sonically going on here. Just lovely.
yeah, EJ has feel & doesn’t sacrifice consonance for pure technique
I don't know why but im smiling while listening this song. :)
amazing!!!!!!!!!

In a class all his own!! Stands tall in the select group of guitar wizards..
phenominal, period !!
eric johnson is one of the best! Johnson Vs. Malmsteen Vs. Vai Vs. Satriani Vs. Buckethead... ultimate battle.
Anyone who approaches music in this way is going about it all wrong. Poor, pathetic creatures who gain no enjoyment from life other than putting everything on a value scale/competitive arena.

@metachozoite Don't worry about being famous. That's the very first thing I was told when I started playing. You'll start rushing everything.
