I was on the this and I am in this video. It wasn't 1am it was sometime between 11-12.30 at the latest as we usually went to the buffet at 11.20. The cruise is a school holiday cruise and was full with 5400 on board. The lines moved within 5 mins as they only have a small selection of food it's not taking long. The cruise was also dirt cheap, makes me laugh when people expect silver service when they paid less than a Premier Inn per night and their cruise includes food. P&O is not fancy at all but the prices reflect that. Some of the passengers are snobs who think they are special because they cruise, we go on cruises that cost many times more per night but this was a cheap no fly cruise to get away and met the expectations based on the price.
I really don't know what to say.....it's late at night & you still expect full cover. Why not post when you're home that your local chippy wasn't open at 4am but it's your right to have chips whenever you want. Oh the sense of entitlement is off the charts with these people.
Am I missing something?? It’s 1am!! Surely you don’t expect a full spread. If there was lots more fresh food out and 80% of people are in bed could you imagine all the food waste!?! Well said Louis. Why anyone would want to stuff their faces at midnight when they’ve had a several course full dinner at any one of a dozen venues a few hours earlier is totally beyond me. Wife and I were on Arvia a couple of weeks ago. Usually, we were asleep before midnight, and even if we weren’t, wouldn’t be expecting a full spread at that time of night. We paid £2098 for a 200 sq ft Seaview cabin with two weeks full board including £150 onboard spending money. That’s £78 a night each. Given the standard of the food, I’d say that was excellent value, and we will be cruising again with P&O
Full catering and meals finish at 9.30pm, this is just the leftovers from the restaurants really so there's no waste. You can't expect full catering at 1am in the morning
Late night buffet is never meant to feed a full ship. This is for people who are still up and like any weekend at the pub, feel like a cheeky nibble. We haven’t seen any lines like this, thankfully, but this is not a requirement. Don’t like queues? Order room service
On my last P&O cruise (2022) we board mid afternoon and the entire buffet was closed. We hadn't eaten since breakfast planning a late lunch once on board after a long drive. Crew said they were closed as preparing for the evening service (at 3pm !?). Nothing else was open so I ate a cereal bar I had in my pocket. I'm not a foodie, I simply needed food because I was hungry. I've not used them since.
Been on this cruise, never had an issue at all. May be wise to avoid obvious busy times, but if you use your common sense, all is well. Some people will moan about anything!

One of the problems with buffets which I have noticed is where the counters are exclusively parallel to the sides of the ship forming a single straight set of counters. People tend to think either queue up at the start do you go straight for what you want halfway along the queue or wait behind people who are after totally different things to what you want?. People think you are pushing in but why wait behind a load of passengers who want something from the far end? A random island layout is much more efficient as you get more shorter queues at points where you want the relevant fayre.
I don't see anything wrong with that! Why do you need a huge meal at midnight anyway? Considering how cheap P&O are to cruise with compared to other cruise lines I don't see any reason to complain.
Update , last night they had a lot of senior staff up, but it looks like they have launched ship without enough staff , all the I.T systems for the onboard booking etc has gone down,
I am now somewhat mobility restricted, so it was good to see in the video, someone with a scooter on board. Apart from that, the queue for food was no worse than I have seen in holiday hotel buffet breakfasts. The quantity of food seemed more than adequate for a late buffet. I used to work for a division of P&O (when it was proudly British) and the food, prepared by Goanese or Pakistani cooks was excellent.
I used to laugh at all the people who were getting full platefuls at the midnight snacks on Iona when I only really went in after the shows at the skydome to get a hot choclate and maybe a little cake
On the last cruise I went on, the buffet was closed during port days, but room service was included so that didn't matter. We did go to the buffet about 1am one morning after watching a show and then spending a few hours in the club. Most stations were closed, but what was on offer was decent. There weren't many people eating though, so it makes sense to scale back to save on waste. And you still had the free room service to fall back on if you really wanted. This was on Cunard though and probably only a hundred or so are still up after 12. No doubt different on other lines. Midnight walks on the empty promenade deck were nice. You had your pick of those heavy wooden deck chairs at that time of night.
That's what you get all the while with P&O. That buffet was the fullest I've ever seen on P&O usually there's a handful of people milling around but there certainly wasn't 5200 people in that queue either. You usually get some left over cheese and crackers a bit of fruit and if you're lucky a luke warm Horlicks
I am in P&O's Azura as I type It's dirt cheap, top quality entertainment & food on board. Extremely friendly staff & guests In my opinion a high quality cruise, well worth the €750 for 1 week flights included! I think P&O are fantastic
WTF?? so many people eating that late at night?? and WTF?? this cruise has a midnight buffet?? have not seen that since before covid. good on P&O for keeping that
Nothing wrong with what I can see. I've read a few comments and a lot of people have mentioned room service, unless things have changed, this is an additional charge with P&O about $15 a time ..so I would go to the buffet but it's more than adequate for midnight.. I just travelled with Cunard and room service was included which was great for breakfast in the morning but I never felt a need to order at night. As other people have commented your eyes are bigger than your tummy so you might pop a long especially if you're at sea, the next day. You're on holiday after all. Happy cruising to everyone.
No need to queue. This is for the first 2 or 3 dishes and the plates. Plates are available elsewhere, grab one of those and just go to the dish you want. Just got off arvia and was surprised to see people queuing for a plate like this!
Im late to comment here but P&O put on a few snacks late on for those who want a nibble before bed. Its not a buffet. Its cheese and biscuits, a sandwich maybe, slice of pizza sometimes and a cake or two. They also do Horlicks and Cocoa. Its certainly not for 5200 people. Yes, Id be very happy with what they offer. Have been every time.
Honestly though...who needs to eat a buffet at midnight? It's not even healthy to eat that late and go to sleep 1-2 hours later. The meals on ships are so huge that it seems like it would be easy to have a big dinner and make it through to breakfast the next day.
Perhaps if you ate at meal times, you wouldn't have to queue at 1am in the morning for food!? Surely, you don't expect a full dining option at 1am on ANY cruise line? What's your name anyway, Karen? 😂😂
Just come of the Iona after a Christmas markets cruise, never again it was full capacity far to many people for my liking and overall the food was average. The only saving grace was our last night in the limelight club which served very nice food and we had Kevin Simm as the star act. Much prefer a smaller ship like Ventura
I only ever went on one PO (O) ship and that was my last. The menu for entree on day one was lamb salad ? The plate arrived with 1” chopped iceberg lettuce and three slices, shaped like domino’s of lamb. That was it. Awful ships, mainly cultish with the same passengers craving the black and white night and various other regular “ nights”. We don’t have much choice of ships here in Australia but l still would not cruise Po ships.
So.. what was 'disgraceful' about it? Unless you didn't grab your evening meal in one if the MDR's or other areas on board. At that time if night, I still see plenty of food, despite the fact that the chefs on duty will probably have 5 hours sleep until they feed you breakfast. What are you wanting at that time of night, a banquet!!? Since dinners don't finish until after 8pm at night, and speciality dining areas are sometimes on until midnight... there's no excuse to call it disgusting if you want to 'pig out' just for the sake of it at these hours!! It's not 24 hour dining - the only thing disgusting is anyone entitled enough to think that it is!
I honestly couldnt find anything to grumble about - what were you expecting another 3 course meal at midnight? It is self service after all so why were you so surprised to see people queueing and mingling about? Personally speaking I think its gluttony.
That's a line full of people who don't want to miss out on stuffing their faces with free food. How many of us eat at 11.30 at night? I was on the ship and watched many beached whales just sit near the restaurants waiting for the next meal to come up from dinner, snacks, lunch, cakes, evening meal and then late night buffet. there's cruising and then there's going on a pig fest.

It gets this busy this late at night? Bloody hell, we cruise on Iona on Saturday 😬
Probably just after a late night show. Queue goes down pretty fast. I’ve been on about 15 cruises, I know.
I am in P&O's Azura as I type
It's dirt cheap, top quality entertainment & food on board.
Extremely friendly staff & guests
In my opinion a high quality cruise, well worth the €750 for 1 week flights included!
Eating at 1am....? That's why we have an obesity epidemic
Should close the buffet at 10:30. No need for the pigs to keep eating and being rude to staff after that time
Was on the Iona not long ago...and I too was surprised at the number of people at midnight...had a bit of food...only one midnight snack 😂
No wonder people go on a cruise as passengers and come off as cargo.
Why you go on P And O, their is much better company's out there
Im late to comment here but P&O put on a few snacks late on for those who want a nibble before bed.
Its not a buffet. Its cheese and biscuits, a sandwich maybe, slice of pizza sometimes and a cake or two. They also do Horlicks and Cocoa.
Its certainly not for 5200 people.
Yes, Id be very happy with what they offer. Have been every time.
I don't recall ever having a full buffet late at night.
but its not expected to feed the full ship tho is it, its just not
Don’t know what’s disgraceful about it, just a snack after the show on the way to bed. We are late eaters and quite enjoyed the late buffet.
Man, being on a tub with 4000 other people does not sound like my idea of a vacation….
Yes it is disgraceful that people are still eating at 1am !
You’d have thought there would be a kebab house on board 😂😂😂
It is a bit like people drinking beer in the airport at 4am in the morning, who eats at 11.30pm when they are at home?
Honestly though...who needs to eat a buffet at midnight? It's not even healthy to eat that late and go to sleep 1-2 hours later. The meals on ships are so huge that it seems like it would be easy to have a big dinner and make it through to breakfast the next day.
Perhaps if you ate at meal times, you wouldn't have to queue at 1am in the morning for food!? Surely, you don't expect a full dining option at 1am on ANY cruise line?
What's your name anyway, Karen? 😂😂
Surely they are not that hungry to wait in a queue for something to eat at that time of night
How weird. I've never gone to the buffet after 8pm. There is enough food in normal hours. lol
This was posted by someone who’s too entitled. I wasted my time.
You moaning about nothing
Totally being burned in the comments fella
We just cruised with Iona. No issue with food! We are too much!!!
Just come of the Iona after a Christmas markets cruise, never again it was full capacity far to many people for my liking and overall the food was average. The only saving grace was our last night in the limelight club which served very nice food and we had Kevin Simm as the star act. Much prefer a smaller ship like Ventura
id be cutting the line because maybe i dont want any of the food that is at the start of the buffet
I’m happy to eat food all day long. I don’t need no midnight feast.
ffs dont eat at that time of night, ive never felt the need to eat anymore food after my evening meal on any of the cruises ive sailed on.
Been on a few cruises never understood tge need to eat at 1130pm. Gluttony springs to mind
Looks like a human battery farm mass produced 😂😂
So.. what was 'disgraceful' about it?
Why are people still eating at that time of night ? Would they do that at home pure greed if you ask me
Poor people problems. Problems I dont expect to have.
Look if you wan to be good service that late, go dress up for Cunard. But the average passenger paycheck determine the service level of the ship.
People pay for this experience😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Exactly the same as any hotel buffet anywhere abroad.
But not what I want on a cruise. There are people like that all over the ship.
I honestly couldnt find anything to grumble about - what were you expecting another 3 course meal at midnight? It is self service after all so why were you so surprised to see people queueing and mingling about? Personally speaking I think its gluttony.
And your point is?
I thought the buffet closed after dinner
What is it that makes it "disgraceful"? I don't get it.
That's a line full of people who don't want to miss out on stuffing their faces with free food. How many of us eat at 11.30 at night? I was on the ship and watched many beached whales just sit near the restaurants waiting for the next meal to come up from dinner, snacks, lunch, cakes, evening meal and then late night buffet. there's cruising and then there's going on a pig fest.
lol. Elephant seals. I saw one woman with 3 desserts lined up to eat one after the other! No doubt the reason she was fat was because of her "glands"
What cruise was this please? And which ship?
Iona
@@dave6018 thank you, that queue of people is shocking!
Better off have a week in prison
Who the F... wants to eat at 01:00 Hrs? Only the ones who are smoking Pott and cheap people.
I think it's OK, though I wouldn't eat sweet sugary stuff that late ? Savory things would be better.
wow that's good. 36 subscribers and 57,000 views. Exceptional !!
Someone shouldn't go on a cruise😂
Definitely not disgraceful I see no problem here lol
