to be fair, she is not nearly as opulent in apearance as she would have been, Ghent revolted after the death of charles because they were rich and were displeased with the autoritarian regime charles had implemented and maria of burgundy was arrested because she lied about her intentions, which was brought to light by the king of France when he showed the delegates of the estates general the letter mary had sent him, which stated exactly the opposite of what she had promissed the estates general, (in the letter she had said that The estates would basically not be allowed to intervene on any important matters whilst the estates general she promissed more authority in return for the funds and men to defend against the french, this was brought to light in front of the council which the recordtaker noted was scandalous (shaming a young lady, especially a duchess, like that was not proper) she did deserve scrutiny but she really had little choice, though neither did the estates general, which ofcourse were not keen on a centralised authority stomping on their privileges (which they had won through generations of deals and treaties) also i don't think the use of violence in a church like this would have been taken lightly by the church
This scene is fantastic. Only moments before he swears a sacred oath, before God, on behalf of Maximilian of Austria, to defend the Duchess against her enemies, in a cathedral, before a Cardinal. He swears before God that his sword will testify to his oath. Then her enemies come and demand his sword. This scene is the height of chivalry, honour, bravery and romance.
Mary ´s wedding dress is beautiful: Her headdress and veil are beautiful too.The last part of the clip shows that Mary can have some hope that the whole situation will finally solve itself and to her adavantage.
btw: not only was Mary ~13 years the senior to Charles VIII. (the dauphin in the vid), she was also 2 years older than Maximilian. and it was not Wolfgang von Polheim who stood proxy, the delegation was also larger. something the tv series could not adress: Mary was unable to speak german and Maximilian at first not fluent in french. they corresponded in latin.
Mary's decision built larger Empire in the future The World had ever known, The Habsburgs, and France would need more than 4 centuries to destroy it, and eventually failed. A genius girl.
A real and smart wife knows when her husband loves her to death on the spot. BOTH HUSBAND AND WIFE KNOW WHEN THEIR LOVE IS REAL. The straight stare of the eyes is all that's needed. Love is strong and EVER LASTING!
I read they were indeed married by proxy while Maximilian was still in Cologne. Although it wasn't just Polheim, but a larger delegation. The French king allegedly tried to give him a perilous journey to Ghent but he arrived safely anyway. The marriage ceremony was reenacted and there were celebrations.
I presume it's the style of the time. From a practical point of view, the haircut provides extra padding under a helmet around the skull, while shaving below the ears minimizes chafing and overheating around the collar.
Wolf came to play! Love Mary’s wedding dress and I love Margaret’s line, “if he is only the proxy, we’re looking forward to the real Maximilian”
Same. I loved that quote and the soundtrack just amazing!

I laugh so hard at it, thanking for the recent example of manhood for myself to endure.
@@cesaryaelmurillo4367 Gotta love how witty she is without even trying.
When I saw this part, the first thing I said was “Genius Maximilian, it’s the way to protect her and to keep his promise. “

It's probably an over-dramaticization, but yes I agree - it is a VERY good scene!
If Wolf would have done that in real life, he would have sent the Church´s jurisdiction for profanity of a sacred place.

If he’s the pup.... I can’t imagine what the Wolf will be like

so? some of you get fixated on details when it's a great story based on the reality but they always have to change a few things around.
@@keithwalker5078He is not criticizing, merely explaining. I find his actions most fitting.
Wolf would have never done that in real life, he could have been sent to triel for profanation of a sacred place
@@andrear7181 its not like people didnt brake that rule. al you need is the power or with to get away with it.
It was a politicol match yes but when Mary died it broke Maxmillian
this was the best moment so far. thats for doing this work i really look forward to your uploads after a hard week at work
Where can I watch this series?

Great scene, thank you for uploading.
Kerl: "Gib mir euer Schwert"
von Polheim: "Wie Ihr wünscht"
That’s what I call the grooms ‘best man’..🙂
Go Wolf! Haha :D Love her dress!

Love is strong, but not ever-lasting. At least not here on Earth.
This was a dull affair by Dothraki standards.
Now it seems very interesting)) and a little bit of action at last
Didn’t see that coming 🤚🏻
Bold and badass!
So begins the austrian-franco rivalry that eventually led to the marriage of Marie Antoinette.
Maximillian later does the same thing to the heiress of the Duchy of Brittany but the French get to her first.

It's a great scene, though I don't think this actually happened. As far as I know, Maria and Maximilian were married the normal way.
I read they were indeed married by proxy while Maximilian was still in Cologne. Although it wasn't just Polheim, but a larger delegation. Finally they meet hahah
How come he didn't scream when he cut off his hand?
Because ,he is in shock.
Shock
It happened very fast, He was in shock, and a high adrenaline reduces pain at the start.
tres belle série mais certains faits sont trop gros pour etre vrai
Can somebody please tell me what show is this? I'd like to watch it.
Maximilian

Toxic proxy. No pansy! ;D
Why do all the men have zoomer haircuts in the 1500s lol
1400's actually.

😅😮😮😮😂
In proxy marriage, do the groom proxy need to kiss the bride????
Yes, but they didn't have sex though. Instead they would touch each other's feet in the marriage bed as a sort of symbolic consummation.
@@isobelduncan is it still applicable today???
@@edenklaus342 I would say so, yes. But, it's very uncommon.
snap, you had to cut my favorite scene!...when wolf and johanna say goodbye, touching af. 🥲
